A good friend told me, though, that the cocktails were exquisite and that there was a waiting list for limited memberships. Needless to say, I was intrigued. I was immediately impressed upon entering. Plenty of comfortable seating (we're talking couches and easy chairs), soft ambient lighting, and a kind of quiet mystical aura make it a charming spot to gather with friends and discuss the latest Love is Blind or sit quietly by yourself, writing the poetry of your soul. The two drinks I had were, indeed, fabulous. They have beer and wine as well. Some snacks, too! The drink menu is not extensive, but it is ever-changing, like a good speakeasy will do. The bar staff were all super friendly, helpful, and adept at making spectacular concoctions. The place is open to the public but they also have memberships which gets you a free drink each month and other perks. One in particular is that you get your very own drawer, all of which are located on the front of the bar. The Buffalo chicken pizza (which I've ordered twice) has been watery each time, with toppings sliding right off the limp crust. We've ordered the fried pickles a few times too, and they taste like they were fried in old oil. If you've had fresh fried pickles versus ones fried in bad or old oil, you know the difference. The beef nachos came out cold, served in a big cast iron skillet that also was cold (why serve cold nachos in a cold skillet?). Service at the bar has also been slow every time. Regulars get priority with very attentive service. As a former bartender myself, I get it: the regulars are sure tippers and people you get to know on a personal level. But every customer deserves attentive service regardless if it's their first time in a bar or their 100th. Also something odd about the bar service: each time I've ordered a mixed drink like Jack and Coke, they serve it in a pint glass. Industry standard for a single serving of Jack and Coke is in a short glass/rocks glass, not in a tall glass unless a customer requests it. The first time I thought it was a simple mistake, but it kept happening the other times we went too. This might be policy here to keep the bartender from having to make drinks more often? But it's not industry standard and is strange. I literally never leave negative reviews, but living locally it really sucks this place isn't better. We make the drive to Grain Valley or Blue Springs if we want to go to a bar because we keep getting disappointed. I'll update my next review of The Oak Tavern with pictures if we decide to try again. Rating 2/5 stars because my husband said his smoked wings that were on special were good! And like I said, the food always does *look* pretty. I hope it's better next time if we decide to try again.

To me this place is as close to nothing as possible. I can honestly rate all three aspects of this alleged food business *zero*. Food: 0, Service: 0, and Ambiance: 0. FAIL, to put it bluntly. And sadly. This place looks like it was used as a film set by a renegade low-budget movie producer many decades ago, and since then, no one has lifted a finger to improve on that impression. Seeing multiple vehicles in the gravel parking lot told me they do have *customers*, and I, being someone who reserves judgment until I have actually visited a place to try for myself (the reviews were quite mixed, to put it politely), so I decided to give Depot Tavern a *chance* for a lunch visit during the noon hour. MY huge mistake! Lesson learned. Well, they chose to *not* give me a chance (of any sort), other than to realize I'd walked into the liquor home of "Go, Brandon!" (as depicted on signage nearby), and they were NOT interested in serving ME in any way--at any time, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have never witnessed such a sad spectacle of dour-faced individuals (male and female; apparently some were employees, but NONE of the other "humans" in Depot Tavern managed to actually make eye contact with me, no one spoke to me (with the expected simple hello, maybe "welcome new potential customer", etc.)... Hmm! After more than a full minute of being ignored like I was a Black man in a racist 1950s redneck bar that chose to not serve me, and neither any bar patron or the staff there even acknowledging my humanity and presence... I left. I was not scowling like they were, so maybe that disqualified me from being among their clientele. Again, there was zero communication and I was obviously being scrupulously ignored. They must've WANTED me to leave but couldn't muster the courage to say that directly to me. Pitiful. In full fairness, there was a cryptic sign on the door about someone who was apparently recently deceased or otherwise in an unhappy situation... but the trials and tribulations of life (like a customer's death or injury) are IMO better left for other places than for notes how to un-welcome tavern patrons. This is the SADDEST "business" I've ever entered in six decades of some travels in Missouri and elsewhere (even abroad), and upon concluding that they openly disliked me based solely on my appearance (and there's little that's bizarre or freakish about my looks!) and having zero interaction with anyone else, I left, vowing to never return. That will be easy. This joint and the people in it give me the creeps. To me, they look like a bunch of angry criminals. I no longer give half a hoot what they think of me. No one there was adult enough to interact with me on my one and forever-only visit. My guess is, despite its alleged very long existence, it won't be around very much longer. Even if it remains, I wouldn't expect it to be improved at any point. My advice to the owner/mgmt is if you're having a wake, do it before or after hours when Google Business thinks you're "open for business". I'm not used to being discriminated against, but it feels really CREEPY. At least I can take comfort in knowing that I won't repeat that mistake! My final guess is that even if they read this review, they'll never learn from it. (But now I'm being ignorant--like they obviously were too, as it pertains to me.) News Flash: Contempt breeds contempt! Maybe it's time to consider other options. I went to a friendly restaurant across town and spent my money where it's welcomed and appreciated.

I started the night with a maple Creamsicle which has their Maple sweet sorghum shine, orange juice and cream soda. Absolutely have the potential to be too sweet, but it had a good balance to it. Finished with a version of their old-fashioned and it was really nice. There was a band warming up prior to playing and I knew that I would like their music and they sounded good, but it's a very small space and alive band is just gonna be too loud for my preference. We're anxious to try their version of an apple pie coming out soon.

The holy trinity or mind, body, spirit connection! We stumbled upon the brewery by stopping by the Lota Bait store, which is also fun, and noticed their name listed. All we had to do was walk behind and sitting on a nice piece of land with shade trees, picnic tables, lots of chairs, fire pit and a stage for music was heaven. There's a pick up window for your beverage orders or you can go inside for their home brew, seltzers and cocktails made with Tom's Town Distilling spirits. That morning they were making homemade waffles, plain or with bananas and walnuts, one of each please, and their utensils came wrapped and are compostable. Can't wait to spend an evening there after having fun on Lake Lotawana or if you live close enough you're lucky. This place is sweet!
