More than great hemp clothing, original and national designs. Most clothes are 55% hemp and 45% cotton. Some are 100% hemp though. Great if you like hippie culture. I just bought a "MAKE NO WAR" shirt. Way more than clothes, amazing place for pipes and bongs, made of decorative glass (see my photo for a little preview). Rolling paper and other smoking paraphernalia also available. The staff is nice too. They really go the distance with the hemp pride. My 8 dollars in change came as one each $5, $2, and $1, just so that they could give me a $2 bill with stamp near Jefferson's head that reads "I grew hemp". I love the warmth and softness of hemp clothes. They're really durable, and they dye very attractively. The Hempest is pretty much the only name in town. I like some of the styles, but I honestly wish it wasn't so hippy-hip-hop styled. For a man of slight build, you swim in the size small t-shirts. The pants, likewise, are all baggy cut. I'd really love to have some tighter hemp tees and better cut hemp pants, especially considering how damn expensive the merchandise is. read more

I went in here today to buy a present, and while they have some nice products, it's definitely a mob scene of teenagers with wads of saved up cash waiting to buy glass pipes. I had to wait for a stupid girl to move and get off her cell phone (she was discussing, probably with her dealer, the pros and cons of the pipe she was buying) to look at anything in the cases. Minus one star for that, and her not being asked to move when therre's more peeps checking out stuff. Not a bad place, and it has all the basic head shop needs. Lots of stinky incense, unattractive clothes, and things that seem like a good idea when purchased and then just aren't. Needed a beaded roach clip? Yeah, me neither. There's some nice "glass pipes", you know, for tobacco. That's what I was looking for, and I found a pretty one for a present. They also sell hookas, which are more spendy, and those fancy water pipes.....not "bongs", as those whipper snappers might call them. Props for taking credit cards, particularly Amex. read more

The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and not condescending if you (like me) ask lots of possibly stupid questions about some of the items for sale. They were totally nice, took time to explain things to me, answered all my questions, and were awesome. I never knew buying a hemp tank top could be so easy and worry free! Ok, truthfully, I think this is a nice pseudo head shop/clothing store. Yeah it's overpriced (but, um, so is Sugar Daddy's) , yeah this probably means I'm more of a yuppie than I think I am, but whatever. It's convenient, it has a large selection of pipes, small selection of grinders, I think I saw one water pipe, and a lot of really pretty clothing. It feels very "After I made my first million, I moved to Vermont and opened a head shop" yup-hippie organic feel to the place. I also totally loved some of the hemp clothing there. I went here for a drug detoxifier / cleanser. One of the only places in town that carried them. Reasonably priced and knowledgeable staff. As far as hemp products go, I can't really afford em. But they did seem to have a decent selection of hemp attire and consumer staples. Here is the thing about hemp. Its outrageously priced and it only costs so much because of the heavy gov regulations imposed on growing it. Its a bummer hemp has been grouped together with cannabis because they are completely different plants. I do believe it is a superior product to cotton and puts less stress on the env. I wish I could support the hemp movement with my pocket book, but it just isn't practical. Until it becomes a viable/ affordable alternative to cotton, I'll just continue to fight scenesters at the recycled clothes store. read more

There is one female employee who works there who is very helpful & nice; she is really the only reason I don't HATE the Hempest. Otherwise, this place is over-priced & I hate their glass. The 'heady' pieces look... poorly-done. When I asked the grumpy dude downstairs (someone else mentioned him in a review) about if he knew who the artists were, he just shrugged. Way to take pride in your merchandise, man. The color/patterns are not nearly as tight as any other heady works I've seen, yet the prices are higher... and there's no way to know if they are actually done by legit artists. As for water-pipes, they have had a few Phire's the last couple times I've been there... but none of them are anything special, and too damn pricey. Some of the clothing is really nice, but again, far too expensive. I've bought one hemp sweatshirt from the Hempest, and only because the nice-employee-lady gave me a ~40% discount that wasn't supposed to be official for another day or two. Besides the sweatshirt, the only other thing I have purchased from them was a glass bead. They are split into two levels; the lower level seems to have the lower-end stuff & so forth. I got a bead from the upper level -- it is smaller than my thumbnail, but was $19. I really like it, so I'm not too worried about it... but the other beads go up to crazy, crazy prices. All in all, it did not appeal to me in any way as somewhere I would deliberately go to. I understand that it's in Boston, and on Newbury for crying out loud, so of course it's going to be kinda yuppie with jacked-up prices. But... when I've watched people come in and buy pieces from there, I honestly feel very sorry for them. read more

I love this place! I have fond memories of working here in college. The owners are super nice, and fair. All of the staff are courteous and professional. I commend them for their political activism. Vote YES on Question 4! (Also stop by now 4 20% off ) Everything I ever bought here has lasted forever, as high-quality items should. I LOVED my Rainbow sandals and frosted glass hookah. Favorite shop in Boston thus far. They carry the typical glass etc that you'll see in most places but also super cute and comfortable hemp clothes for men and women. Also a few accessories, CBD oil and hemp skincare products that are a little harder to find. The guys at The Hempest are the best. After searching for a warm winter parka that was made and sourced responsibly, I found Hoodlamb. Long story, short there were some manufacturing issues with the first parka I picked up, but Mitch was super responsive and made sure that I was taken care of with a replacement. I thought it'd be appropriate to dedicate my 420th review to a truly green shop, a store that realized and capitalized off the multitudes of uses of cannabis. While they have a pretty sweet selection of casual wear (such durable fabric), they also carry skin/bath products (great stuff for the derma) and accessories. Even cooler is that much of their merchandise uses bamboo and soy fibers as well. And their staff is always kind and chilled out. Hmmmm? read more

Great shop with lots of nice smoking accessories and clothing. My girlfriend got a sweet dress that she looks uber hot in, and I got myself a nice little $35 hookah..They have an amazing range of products. Glass pieces abound on two floors and many different displays ranging from $10 to $1k in all sorts of beautiful colors, shapes and sizes. They also have papers, vaporizers, dugouts, onies etc. Prices did not seem as bad as people make it out, I mean, do hookahs get cheaper than $35?? They have guys clothing downstairs & womens upstairs with a relatively nice selection of styles. A bit more upscale than your average headshop, but hey, its newbury st. This place is for any one who has never been to a decent head shop or just has a lot of extra money to through away. The most expensive head shop in the city by far, people in there really don't know that much about glass. Bottom of the barrel for glass IMO. They do have a pretty cool selecting of hemp products, but they too are super expensive. read more

Five stars here! Took my girlfriend to Newbury Street for a dress and, of all the stores with dresses - she picked this one. Beautiful clothing, all original designs from John and Mitch (the owners) and all made from hemp fiber. Everyone is super friendly and the prices are great. If you want one-of-a-kind clothing made from socially and environmentally conscious hemp fiber, then look no further. They have clothes for men. Women, and children too.. so bring the family! Suffice it to say: finally-a store that get's it! Real people,, providing real product, for a real cause. Upon entering the store, you are undoubtedly remniscent of what the 70's might have been. Good tunes fill the air that smells like incense (of course they have incense, what hemp store wouldn't?). The clothes are diverse and colorful with a myriad of styles for men, women, and even bambinos! The kicks are awesome, possibly the largest supply of IPATHs I've ever seen. They even have hemp decks from Shivatech. So sick. The downsides? 1. parking's a bitch. 2. the items can be pricey, but given the lasting durability of hemp and the high quality, sweatshop free guarantee, in the end is well worth it. By pricey I mean $79 for a pair of men's ipath jeans, $199 for a Hoodlamb Jacket. But do you're homework, you may not find the same product anywhere else, let alone for less money! 3. they seem to have the most physically attractive employee applicant pool which sometimes makes paying attention to the clothes hard (and I'm a girl!) So all in all, the Hempest is worth it. The owners are always around and truly enjoy what they do. My experience at the store was just that. Sometimes I wish I had less fun! read more

Sadly this is the best excuse for a head shop in the city of Boston. They have some good quality stuff and good names like Toro and some legit roors. But that's only if you come in during the 2 weeks a year they re up their inventory. If you don't come during that time all you will find is extremely over priced unimpressive pieces and a ton of overpriced help clothing and products. Anytime of year you will find more clothing and help products than actual pipes. They don't carry space cases and one time they tried to charge me $23 for a bottle of ozium. I have been here a few times and there has been the same miserable woman behind the counter (long dark hair, glasses, usually find her first outside in courtyard smoking butts on cell). I have been a long time customer of this establishment and just wanted the owners to know what exactly was going on here with this woman. She is very rude when you come in when she is outside smoking and you interrupt her phone calls and her cigarette smoking and she's basically pissed that she has to assist you. Not only that but I was in there a couple of weeks ago and found that she has been ripping people or at least me off. I love the incense here and she said that it was 5 for a $1 and every time when she is there, this is what I have been paying. I went in a couple of Sundays ago and there was a very nice man there and I got 45 sticks for $5.25!!! WTF????? ATTENTION OWNER.....what is going on here? I would like some answers and I think I am owed some serious change back from you guys. This woman is BAD for biz and something is rotten in Denmark. From now on, I guess I will have to buy my supply on Sundays because this woman is ripping people off. A great little clothing boutique/headshop the likes of which I haven't really seen anywhere else. Most headshops are accompanied by a sketchy, doing something bad vibe or offer knives and sex-toys alongside the pipes, which I have never particularly cared for. Not this place, The Hempest is first and foremost a clothing store, with lots of hemp clothing. It is a bit cluttered and packed with stuff, but if you take the time to look through it, there are some really nice things. Great hoody selection, and some really nice linen-type shirts and pants made from organicly grown hemp. I have a couple items from here & really dig the way they wear. They also have a second floor of all womens clothing that seems to showcase a lot of dresses. Both floors also offer a nice selection of handblown glass pipes. Seems like more inexpensive production work on the first floor. The second floor showcases the most beautiful high end glasswork in the city, by the likes of Toro, Steve Hops, RooR, Phx, Mgw, pure, Jason Lee, Mike Fro, Alex Inwood, j.a.g., and more. Staff is great, though it can get quite busy at times. They also have a nice selection of vapes & grinders at decent prices. read more

Just moved to Boston & found my favorite store. I was surprised to see the comments calling it expensive..Prices didn't seem that bad..not bargain basement or Old Navy cheap, but not bad either. They have some really nice jackets for around $200 that I am definitely getting this winter. Pants were between $40 & $80 and Shirts start at $18 for t's with cool prints. They also have the most beautiful glass pipe selection I have ever laid eyes on. This place has a great vibe, it's very unique, original, and friendly to boot. This store is great on so many levels. For one, lets just say that if you claim to be any kind of eco -conscious person, then you shouldn't shop anywhere else. More Hemp clothing than any other store I've ever seen or heard of. The atmosphere is great, they always have good music playing, although it has been a bit crowded on my last couple of visits. They also have by far the nicest and most unique glass pipe selection in Boston at a fraction of the price of the kenmore square place...No cheap production Indian crap like the village in NY. I have been returning for years to buy a wallet that is not made of leather. Most wallets are either cheap and fall apart immediately, or they are made of cow hide. I found a very nice magnetic clasp wallet at the hempest to serve my purpose. I do need to replace it every 3 years or so when it wears out, but the hempest has provided me with much happiness by having the exact same high quality wallet for the last ten years so that I am never having to compromise my standards! Wow, I have never experienced such terrible customer service before in my life. Whoever was working downstairs today (woman with long, dark hair and glasses) was incredibly rude to me the minute I came in. She seemed completely disinterested with assisting me right off the bat and gave me so much unnecessary attitude as she barely attempted to help me find the specific item that I was looking for. After several grueling minutes of withstanding her condescending tone while she failed to grasp my description of the item, she then proceeded to blame me for her incompetence by blurting out "you don't know what you want." FINALLY she understood what I wanted, and sent me upstairs to a much more competent and friendly salesperson who helped me out without any problems whatsoever. What kind of a salesperson treats a customer like that??? If you want to be considered a legitimate business in this town, you better start hiring competent salespeople who are capable of treating your customers with respect. Until that happens, I am sure you will be seeing a lot more negative reviews in the future. read more

Bought a couple of winter jackets from this place. Really good quality and toastie in the freezing weather. Not overpriced really, if you want budget clothing I guess you go to a budget store. The people that helped me out were super friendly and more than eager to answer any question I had. It's a small store so they don't have a wide selection of scientific water pipes...
