Better off going to Kayla's right down the road !!!!!the hen house isn't the place u want to go went there on Father's Day at 7:15 am sign said open at 7am no signs were on and the door was locked.so I went home and call she answered the phone rude like right off the bat.so I asked when do u open she says 7am I said we were just there and the door was locked and the open sign was off.she basically called me a lier said the sign was on and the door was open when my husband tried to open the door it was locked and there were no signs on and this isn't the first time they have been rude save urself a trip go to Kayla's just down the road nice people good food read more

A great place to stop in between mackinaw island and frankenmuth. Right off the highway, exit 222. They really embrace 222 throughout the town including here. Everyone was friendly. The server was working her butt off, and knew everyone's name that came in. It was like family circulating in and out throughout the time we were there. I liked the vibes. I had an Irish omelet which consisted of corned beef inside the omelet and American potatoes. There were some crispy bits that were great. I enjoyed this. My mom had the same but with crispy hash browns. I would recommend this place. It waa warm and inviting. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here for breakfast on our way downstate. The menu is simple, like a typical small down diner. The service is friendly and prompt. The decor is very eclectic and busy. The quality is middle of the road for breakfast food, not bad but not outstanding. I can't speak to anything else on the menu other than breakfast items. Not terrible if you want a sit down breakfast in the area and don't want gas station food or McDonald's. read more

During our visit, we listened in to a classic old timer republican conversation on how the government was stealing too much of our money and how goddamnit they are not going to take our guns. I know nothing about St. Helen Michigan, but the fact that there is an elementary school opening across the street from the Hen House named after Charlton Heston makes me think we have some right wingers on hand. This is nothing fancy as far as restaurants go but the small town home cooking was wonderful. The soup was hot and delicious, and the fried chicken was to die for. We had a large beef taco salad and chicken dinner. Both dishes were very good, taco salad was loaded with beef. Service was very good. Thursday is Mexican day, seemed most patrons were ordering Mexican dishes. Overall, we were very satisfied, prices are more than reasonable and you get a discount for cash vs a surcharge for using a card - nice touch!! I read the reviews and was a lil skeptical about trying this restaurant. I try to remember we all have a bad day or experience so that doesn't mean it is the norm. St. Helen is a super small/tiny town so I have hear some really good reviews on their chicken. I decided to try the food first then if it was good I would venture in. I ordered their hot sandwiches and they were really good. So I decided to go in for breakfast. My waitress Jennifer was nice. It was deer hunting season so I was worried it would be super busy. It was so I sat up at the counter so we could grab the waitress faster if we needed something. Good thing we did because it was crazy busy we probably won't have had as good of service as we did because she was super busy. I ordered biscuits and gravy my daughter ordered the omelet. Both breakfast were good. We ordered dinner later that night through the drive through. We ordered the 9pc chicken dinner with sides. Trust me it was delicious! I also ordered the gyro it was so-so... The four stars is because the food quality was decent and I did have a good experience overall. read more

Located in St.Helen MI where there is really only 2 other restaurants and a few pizza parlors in town. All homemade food and the service is great. This is your typical family diner style restaurant that offers a nightly special that attracts the locals. We really like their breakfast. Just all around good food with nothing fancy. The adage fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I've only tried breakfast here but the recent attempt is the last attempt. The blueberry pancake was so gummy and tasted anything but a pancake. The butter spread that they served was sour to taste. Even with explaining how exactly I prefer my eggs they still came out Auto-cook over easy and there was more saturated butter goop on the toast that you could wring it out. Dined in for breakfast and took out for lunch all in the same day. Usual fare available for breakfast. These are "stuffed" omelettes, the way an omelette should be! I took a pic of my western with hash browns after I drizzled it with ketchup- sorry pic looks messy! I had shredded hashbrowns while the lady had the diced potatoes. I love my shredded hashbrowns, but the diced potatoes were better. For lunch I tried the hamburger club. It was a delicious, stacked sandwich. Plenty of sandwich options.. Tried the perch. If you like fried fish, this is pretty good. Fries are good, the Philly sandwich was good (get with Au Jus) and they say the chicken is top notch. There are not too many restaurant options in this "one light town"....So thank goodness, this restaurant is average to above average at a fair price. We were up visiting family and decided to go get breakfast, the family recommended this place and I'm so glad they did! Fantastic little family owned, old style place. Reminded me a lot of the small town living I grew up with. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was fantastic! When there for lunch today and the waitress was nice but she didn't offer me a refill on my drink just the person I was with. When she took the plates away she still didn't offer me a refill so I had to ask for one. I hope she doesn't do it often because that would be bad. read more

A very reasonably priced homey restaurant and the food we ordered (grilled chicken salad, gyros sandwich, strawberry shortcake and bread pudding) was very good. I dont get to Michigan much, but when I come to visit my mother in law, I have to make a trip to the Hen House! Food is great and very reasonably priced! St. Helen doesn't even have a McDonald's! This is good, because with a place like the Hen House, you dont need it! I was recently in St. Helen for my father in law's funeral...I actually missed going there! Bummer! My friend and I stopped here on our way downstate. There was a sign up saying they were closing in a half hour for a parade. So after waiting 15 minutes with no one saying hello to us we went up to the counter to see if we kept waiting if they would serve us (because it was getting so close to closing). They said "you have to wait for a table if you want us to serve you," with a lot of attitude. ... Okay that isn't what we asked. We decided to wait a few more minutes because people were cashing out and then people just zoomed in and took both tables that were being cleaned. It smelled bad and the employees were rude. I like the Hen House. They serve fries with a side of gravy that somehow fills me up . I am handy-capped but they seem always happy to see me. They make room for my wheelchair type scooter and alwYs serve hot food at a fair price. Not a very big place which allows for that personal attention that I always demand of them. Fridays is fish day and I like the fact that I get to chose from three(3) kinds of fish with all that goes with it always hot always fresh and always at a fair price.
