After a few very good breakfasts I took myself to a Friday fish fry. The perch dinner was among the best I have ever had. I am a sailor of our Great Lakes and have a special place in many ports for perch. This is easy in the top 3. The staff is outstanding. The kind of little place you are only a stranger once. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the perch. and really good coffee too. This all sounds good enough for me to have dinner their in a few hours. We're traveling with a dog... Outdoor seating... Check. We were hungry and wanted some local fair and had a wonderful walleye sandwich and my friend had a delicious patty melt. The best fries in the world and really yummy onion rings. The staff were all fantastic and everybody came to pet Rocky the boxer.. I grew up in Higgins Lake decades ago when this location was the Dairy Dome. I'm so glad that it's a functioning and wonderful destination again as the Landmark. read more

This was probably one of the best fish dinners I've ever had! I got the fish dinner with 3 pieces and honestly could have been fine with 2 because each piece is basically a whole fish! I got it with the dry batter and it was so light and crispy and didnt fall off the fish like some other places. Also the fillets were 100% bone-free!The meal comes with coleslaw, fries or mac and cheese, and ice cream! The mac and cheese was so good and you could tell everything was made with love and care. Definitely not a place to go if you are in a hurry but it's worth the wait and the staff is super friendly!! read more

If I could give a 0 star, I would. I'm so disappointed in this establishment. I used to come in all the time as a kid with my family. I decided to go in for the first time in years about 6 months ago craving some delicious pancakes, like the ones I would get as a child. I went in by myself and the waitress asked me if I was single, which I get a lot so I was not phased by this. She asked to set me up with the cook. I politely told her that I have a boyfriend and she went and told the cook. This is a very small restaurant and you can hear conversations from the front door to the kitchen. I then hear the cook from the kitchen make a disgusting joke about me referring to Bill Cosby. I have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully. This act made me so sick to my stomach that I did not touch my food. I have never had to write a bad review before. I work in the service industry myself, and I do know that there is banter sometimes in the kitchen, but knowing that your restaurant is small, you should refrain from speaking so poorly about you patrons. Sexual harassment at its finest. I will never be back and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Management NEEDS to do something. read more

For 10.99 we enjoyed 3 large pieces of Walleye, served up either thick or thin deep fried, or grilled, coleslaw and your choice of Mac & Cheese or Fries. There are a handful of little restaurants surrounding Higgins lake. This place has always been on our list and finally we have tried it. The drive is stunning and it's right near the lake, if your staying on the lake or in the area for the weekend it's located sort of between north and south state parks. We initially parked and noticed then that they take CASH ONLY... so we drive around seeking out an atm... a customer had told us the hardware store 1 mile away did... they didn't.... so we had to drive to the other side of the lake to get cash at the town and country gas station... The outside is adorable with a lighthouse in front. The moment you walk in things go a bit down south.... there are basically two rooms one is cluttered and decorated like a country kitchen the other side is nautical themed. It's a bit dirty inside in regards to the walls and such. I'm not intending to be overly harsh just trying to paint the picture.. The service was fine but not great. A server screamed from across the room to ask what we wanted to drink as opposed to walking up to our table and engaging in small talk and asking. A bit odd and sets a tone.... the employees talked amongst themselves especially servers to cooks through the window... in a small place you can hear everything. I ordered a triple decker club with seafood chowder and my husband got the ranch burger with fish and chips. The wait wasn't bad. The prices were fair and typical for a place in the area. The club was HUGE and I was so happy to see thick cut turkey and ham, not packaged deli slices thank goodness. The soup left much to be desired. Thin consistency, very little seasoning (I had to add salt and pepper) the seafood consisted of clam, imitation crab and scallops. Very low quality. Would be better to simply offer clam chowder and skip anything that includes imitation crab... gross. This place is "famous" for the fish in chips (which we plan to go back to try) so anything seafood related in a restaurant by a lake needs to be on point. The burger was greasy and put together strange. The cheese wasn't fully melted and had store bought ranch squeezed on top.. large portion. Bad choice. Bottom line this is a inexpensive little family restaurant. First impression is okay. Well give it another shot. read more

A Restaurant up north in this area has gluten free flour for cooking fish!!!! I got the walleye dinner and it was HUGE!!! Super good as well!! As a resident of metro Detroit with tons of places to choose from I will say eating out up north is hard especially with food allergies. But Landmark has my full vote for options and also quality. Got there about 230 and didn't get served till 10 after three. We were the only people in the place. My wife got the fish dinner and the dinner roll was hard and never got the desert that she was supposed to get with the meal. We ask for onion rings as an appetizer I only brought out six and they were overcooked. Said they would bring us more which they did and they were overcooked is well. I got the olive burger end it was so overcooked I could hardly cut through it With my knife. I would've been extremely embarrassed to serve that meal. Don't know how anyone could rate it a five star. We drove from Midland to the place because of the rating on yelp. read more

Had lunch pickup at The Landmark today and it was awesome!!! Bacon Cherseburger was giant! My friend had the Triple Club and meat was literally falling off of it it was so meaty and yummy! Highly recommend eating here anytime. It's always very good!! read more

On Higgins Lake. When you are "up north", you are stuck with very limited selection for eating out (and other amenities). This place is small (usually not a problem), and has decent tasting food. BUT, you may want to ignore that they use the Sam's Choice creamer from Walmart (with the price sticker still on it) or the pancake syrup from Save-A-Lot.. ignore that they are a CASH ONLY establishment (and there are no ATMs nearby). ignoring those (amongst others) and ignoring that basically they are the only game in town (aside from one other place which is five miles down the road and operates much the same way), it's generally not that bad. just don't expect much (we didn't, but we are used to being "up north"). the people are friendly, the prices are fair, the selection is minimal, and the service is decent. i would say 3 stars is fair but since they are CASH ONLY and do not make any note of that (anywhere!) at all until your meal is complete, they definitely lose a star for that. so 2 stars it is. read more

while on vacation I was fortunate enough to stop in here many times with the entire family in tow. The small but very cozy building is nicely tucked into the friendly little town and most notably it's located near the wonderful Higgins Lake state parks. The food is fantastic, hot, fresh and filling. Prices were very acceptable. This is now the place where my family goes when in town and my extended family, that's lucky enough to live up there, get to go in there a lot. Fish fry Friday! You can get fish most any where around Houghton and Higgins Lakes on Friday, and we have tried a lot of them this summer. The breaded Walleye at Landmark is the best we've had. A flavorful, light breading on perfectly cooked fish and a wonderful tarter sauce to go with it. It is the best we've had in this area. They don't take credit cards and its a bit of a drive to get there, but worth it! Service was fast and friendly. We will be back! NOTE - the Yelp map location is totally wrong! A great dinner at our favorite local eatery. Greeted by Michelle, owner Marsha sat at our table, met the new server, Katie and noticed a new cook in the kitchen. My husband had country fried steak, fries, tossed salad(with cheese and croutons)! I had the meat loaf dinner(at least a pound of meat), baked potato and green beans. Brought enough meat loaf and fries home to make a lunch for two of us. Michelle ordered a fish dinner take away(Best fish around, cooked 3 ways)for our son. Yes, walleye is offered in several forms: beer-battered and deep fried, lightly breaded deep fried, cajun deep fried, cajun broiled, and plain broiled, all cooked to perfection. Perch and cod are also offered, as both dinner and AYCE options, and are served w/ FFries or mac 'n' cheese, cole slaw, and ice cream for dessert. The bill for an AYCE walleye dinner? $10.99! Whoa! The restaurant also barbecues ribs on certain Saturdays; call ahead for when. Desserts are homemade and come in a wide variety. It's open for breakfast and lunch and does a good job there, too, but it's the fish that'll reel you in and keep you hooked. Service is friendly and fast, and the AYCE portions come fast and furious. Good for breakfast. I especially like their pancakes. Typical up north type cafe. They advertise that they have the best fish at Higgins, but I prefer the fish at Fred's and the Silver Dollar. Convenient to west Higgins. read more
