This is a wonderful little eatery! I've eaten at this establishment several times and have never been disappointed. I've tried many different items on their menu, from the delectable breadcrum crusted crispy eggs over cheesy jalapeno gritz, to the Chicken and Brie sandwich with grilled apples and caramelized onions! They also have amazing Mac N Cheese! The Macs are a MUST try! The coffee they serve is wonderfull as well. Besides the food, the atmosphere is great, with a beautiful outside seating area that overlooks the Delaware river! The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. Arrived promptly for our 7 pm reservation. After being seated and ordering drinks we were informed that many of the entrees were not available. No duck wings. No crispy salmon. No grain bowl. No buttermilk chicken. Perhaps there were other non existent entrees that at the moment skips my mind. Our group ordered hamburgers, and special ordered their vege burger which was not on the menu. informed that they did not have proper hamburger buns to serve with vege burger. Offered white toast which we chose. One member of our group ordered the porchetta which was mostly fat and very little edible meat. I politely spoke to the owner about the lack of entrees and she explained that there were "supply chain issues. " If this is truly the case , please inform your customers before they are seated and ordered drinks that many of the entrees that they were expecting and that were posted on their website would not be available. Why open if you don't have the food to serve your customers. Will not return and risk such a disappointing evening again. read more

They turn you away if it's 5 minutes before opening then when you come back 10 minutes later they tell you they are full because everyone else made reservations. We heard good things so thought we'd give it a try. It says they're not kid-friendly, but they are. That was the good part. From there it was all downhill. We arrived early when it was slow, so as to be considerate with a toddler in tow. There were only two other tables seated when we arrived. The waitress took our order and the kid's meal came out first. OK, that's fine. Then one entree came out, but not the other. My wife and I agreed that I would eat it, so I could take our daughter out for a walk while she ate hers, which we were told was on its way. I gulped it down and left for a walk. Came back 15 minutes later to find my wife at the table, still waiting for her meal. 15 MINUTES! This is unacceptable in ANY restaurant, let alone an overpriced one such as this. I'm not even going to comment on the food since 1) I gobbled mine down, and 2) my wife took hers home and ate it lukewarm there. The staff offered no refund to the one meal, no discount, no free drink or dessert. Nothing. My wife is more forgiving than I, and had already paid the check. I would not have been so easy on them, and I told them so. The waitress/manager/whatever-she-was just stared at me with a blank look when I told her this was unacceptable and she said, "I know, I'm sorry." But she did not appear to be. Looked like she was happy to have us out of her restaurant, knowing they made their money off of us tourists, and good riddance to us. What a sleazy place. Everyone there looked, and acted like, it was their first job in a restaurant. And remember - this was when it was slow. What a joke. Just had breakfast at The Heron. Breakfast burrito with carmelized onions and a jalapeño cilantro sauce. Eggs were light and fluffy. As good as anything I've had in Southern California or Mexico. Coffee was strong and tasty and the staff were beyond accommodating. I, too, was surprised by the low rating as I've seen others write about on these pages. What I found quite amusing, though, was Gerry K's last review which wasn't really a review at all, but rather more akin to a high school vendetta. He seems to be on a culinary crusade though strangely, he doesn't talk much about food. He seems pre-occupied with the cost of eggs and ice-tea refills. Try the hater-aid, Gerry. He is from New Jersey which goes a long way toward explaining things but still not enough to satisfy my curiosity. I showed the review to the staff and asked if he had been involved in a failed tryst with the dish washer. Mums the word over here. Anyway, thanks for the laugh Gerry. Turns out the chickens are in fact raised in a Tribecca loft. Totally worth it by the way. See Burrito review above. Decided to write an update, not because I've been back but because the owners and "supporters" of this establishment continue to be incredulous that anyone could find fault with this place. The owner responded to my yelp review with a description of their intricate process for making a chicken sandwich. I appreciate the response, and suppose you could consider cutting and marinating a chicken to be a high form of art. Yet I didn't see an explanation as to why they charged me 10 bucks for 2 eggs and half a slice of toast. Are the eggs imported from England? The chickens raised in a Tribeca loft? Perhaps the few potatoes on the plate were gold flecked? I also continue to wonder if $2.75 for a glass of iced tea includes refills since I wasn't offered one by the owner or the lackadaisical waitress. Perhaps they grind the tea leaves themselves from a plot of trees they maintain in China. If not, I can only surmise that the high cost of my meager meal subsidized the enjoyment of a fabulous dinner for someone else. You're welcome. Also troubling, the owner sat at the table next to us with some locals (I presume) and gossiped about other business owners in town. So very pleasant. And a few weeks after my initial yelp comment, friends in the area told me the owner complained on facebook about the fake Yelp reviews giving her low marks. Of course only the 5 star reviews are real. LOL. I have a feeling many of the positive reviews here are from people desperate to make people think Sullivan County is as hip as Brooklyn. You can read how rude some of them are--assuming that anyone with an experience at the Heron other than their own must consider Mickey D's to be fine dining. I wonder how many of them are friends with people the owner talks about in front of customers she doesn't know. read more

After more than two years of eating at the Heron, it has become one of our go to places. It's great for a casual dinner at the bar, a Saturday night gathering with friends, a special occasion dinner or a lazy Sunday brunch on the sun drenched deck. As weekend residents of the local area, we love having this gem so close by. With all it's cool, trendy, and hip vibes; it brings so much of what we're used to in the city, upstate. The food is super local, always fresh and cooked to order (you're not rolling in-and-out in 30 mins like the diner). The chef/ owner can always found in the kitchen, and his wife in the front of house. If you haven't been -- just go! Tip: call for a rez on Saturday nights and holiday weekends as the place gets pretty busy. Also, hands down the Corned Beef hash and a Bloody Mary for is the way to go for Sunday brunch. read more

I just ate here with several friends. I've been here before and the food is good. We had reservations. We had drinks, dinner and were enjoying some conversation. After the mains we had to ask about coffee and dessert. Incredibly, we were told by the waitress if we wanted dessert we better order it quickly because the next guests were here and they needed to get the table ready! What?! Not even in the teeniest, most popular french bistro in Paris would the staff dare to rush you through your dinner. just abominable and inexcusable. We come to Narrowsburg every summer with our extended family and love to eat here, unfortunately we can never get in. Last year it was 2;50pm and they told us to come back at 5, for dinner and this year in spite of a half empty restaurant they told us they couldn't seat a party of 5 for 45 min. Waited 15 minutes to get our drinks 10 minutes after that someone finally came over with some menus then we waited about 15 minutes more till someone came and took our order then we waited 45 minutes to get 2 sandwiches and an order of mac and cheese. read more

We had dinner here a few nights ago and everything was amazing. We had the cider martini and a couple of cider beers. Loved dinner last night at The Heron. Our table started with the catfish bites and avocado toast which were both yummy. The two vegetarians at the table got the farro dish topped with a poached egg, which they devoured and also said was quite filling. I got the crispy salmon which was perfectly cooked and the side of beets was tasty as well. The spicy watermelon margarita was also refreshing. I've tried many things here and it's always a knockout. They definitely have a way with flavors and texture. The dishes are flawlessly consistent every single time, pretty impressive. There's a lot of heart and soul that goes into what is made here and it shows. I'm craving the duck egg and farro as I write this. The catfish burrito is another favorite. Excellent French fries that don't even need ketchup. Pillowy pancakes with real maple syrup! Mmm. Great cocktails & nice wait staff. The food is delicious and the outdoors sitting is awesome with an incredible view of the Delaware river. I drive about 45min to come here and have had brunch at the Heron 4-5 times. It is true substitutions are not an option so if you're the kind that likes to create your own dishes, it's good to know this before hand so you're not disappointed. Now, in my experience, every dish I have tried has been superb and, even when I thought I would have changed a thing or two, I ended up pleasantly surprised with every ingredient of the meal as served. My wife and I decided to stop here for lunch yesterday after she had read about this place in a blog. The writer of the blog had stated that this is the true type of farm to table restaurant that many in Brooklyn strive to be. We couldn't agree more. We had a wonderful meal! We split four appetizers. I get beet salad whenever I have a chance. This was one of the best I ever had. I loved my mushroom soup even more. My wife had a nice smoked salmon dish in addition to a tasty shrimp ceviche. Great food, vibe, service...BUT please please please STOP allowing your patrons to tie their dogs up outside in 80-90 degree weather! There is no shade, black burning hot metal benches...YOU control this-its your property and these are YOUR patrons. My family couldn't bear sitting in the window and watching not one, but two, dogs on a 95 degree days sit out there while their owners came in to eat...Sorry, but its enough of a turn-off that it would prevent me from eating here during the summer months... read more

We have eaten at The Heron many times since we bought our house on Lake Wallenpaupack and it is always worth the drive. We usually come for breakfast or early lunch so I can't comment on the dinner but the more brunch-esque (brunchy?) food and drinks are great. Love the deviled egg specials...Great atmosphere, friendly staff, decent music in a terrific setting just steps from a beautiful view of the Upper Delaware River. We'll be back as always. read more

I just called the Heron to order 2 dishes of their Mac and cheese to go..cuz, I and my husband wanted to sit in the comfort of our own house to eat dinner tonight and thought it would be nice to have some of heron's famous Mac and cheese in the comfort of our own home..only to call and get turned down by telling us that they only sell to go orders of it during lunch hour...so who would of thought.. I had seen The Heron's menu, which looked tasty, and was recommended to dine here. One late afternoon, I decided to walk in and talk to someone to ask when the restaurant will be open for dinner. She replied "After the 4th of July." "Are you open this Saturday?" I asked. She stood there and decided not to reply...for a good 30 seconds, ignoring me, looking at her laminated menu that she was cleaning with her wipe. All I could think was "Is this person playing a mind trip on me? Was it a faux pas for me to ask about when the restaurant is open?" In my head, I did the math, and realized that Saturday WAS the 4th of July...a simple mistake I made. But the fact that she chose not to answer me was very condescending, and made me feel very stupid and clumsy. The entire staff were nearby, I would assume on break after lunch, and just sat there looking at me. While giving her back the menu, I said "I guess that was a stupid question," and walked out. As soon as I walked out, I heard the entire staff break out in great laughter. That kind of stung....after that, why would I ever want to eat here, no matter how great the menu looks? read more

I try something new each time I go in and now have several favorites on the menu. The staff is always friendly which is not a surprise in this small town. The number of choices in narrowsburg is limited but here's this little beauty amongst the choices! The place was hopping when we got there. We were lucky to get a "no shows" reserved table. Claude got the eggs with home fries and salad, I got the avocado toast. The place had a lot of charm to it and the food was very good. The food was super fresh and yummy. The salad was also perfectly dressed. A pet peeve I have is over-dressed salad. The only note I have is that although my dish was beautifully presented, the toasted bread was cut extra thick and hard to eat since a mountain of avocado sat on top of it.
