Bar Louis was the perfect dinner spot for our weekend trip to Milford. The round booths (with pillows & blankets!!) in the chalet-themed restaurant made for a cozy, inviting environment. We ordered the escargot, the Niçoise, and the branzino. All of the dishes were delicious and the PERFECT way to celebrate. Our service was phenomenal, and our server was very helpful with the specials. We would definitely recommend Bar Louis to anyone and everyone! Dined there for New Year's Eve. My mother's butternut soup was over salted to the point she couldn't eat it. The scallops were cooked well and the duck brest was delicious. The desert options were few and not that good. I had the chocolate mousse and it was not balanced in the layers of the mousse. My mom had the pecan pie and it was overly sweet. Everything was unbalanced aside from two dishes (the duck and the scallops. The quality price is not there. Too expensive for what it is. The dishes were poorly executed. We went to Milford for a few days to do some hiking - which was excellent. Milford is very rural and I was pleasantly surprised to find a special restaurant tucked away in the Hotel Fauchere. My friend had been to Bar Louis two years ago and remembered one dish she could not forget - the Sushi Pizza. She said it's one of the reasons she returns to this little enclave in northeastern PA. Descending the hotel stairs to the venue, the vibe at Bar Louis is welcoming and cozy. The bartender, who took time to help my friend find a Rose wine that she said was excellent, also made a food recommendation - the pan roasted chicken breast. We started with the pizza. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. My first bite was jaw dropping - the base is a crispy, sticky rice, that's thick and lightly fried in a tempura - it was perfect. The topping - well, was over the top. Tuna crudo, so fresh and tender, topped with caviar and a mild chili aioli that's heavenly. It was one of the most unique dishes I've had. We followed the recommendation and ordered the chicken. It was flavorful, full of juice, with wild mushrooms and fennel. It was superb. After such a great meal, the dessert had quite a bar to reach, but it had no problem meeting that challenge. The semi-sweet chocolate pot de crème was amazing - I have OCD - obsessive chocolate disorder and this satisfied all my desires and compulsions. It was that good. I'm so glad Bar Louis survived the pandemic! Whether you are looking for a quick, elevated cocktail, or a full meal; you can find it here. Reservations are easily made online or over the phone if you have a larger party (as we did). They easily accommodated our group of 8. Service is excellent and attentive but not overly so. We had several martinis (a running theme this year) and started with the Charcuterie (very good) for all to share. They were out of Deviled Eggs sadly, but those that had the Baby Red Romaine Caesar were impressed. Note- the anchovies are on the side and can be easily omitted. If you like a fully-dressed Caesar ask for more dressing on the side. I had the Vegan au Poivre and I must say, it was the most interesting thing I've ever eaten. I still can't get over it. It's more like a pot roast than a steak, but it FEELS meaty in a way that may be off-putting to some vegetarians. It may be my new Roman Empire though. Eating as a vegetarian in the Poconos can be a bit boring. A lot of places still don't offer that option and if they do it's usually a bland pasta or veggie burger. So, I cannot appreciate enough Bar Louie offering something not only different, but memorable and delicious. Desserts are not listed online, but are available. The chocolate crepe cake was lovely and not overly sweet. The crème brulee delicious but missing that hard crack of a shell. Regardless, I will be back again! We live locally and have dined here many times. It used to be a fairly good option but has seriously declined in quality since the change in ownership a few years ago. The prices are high and the portions are small. And maybe that's just the world we live in today but it's completely unacceptable when your meal is barely edible. Complaining to the staff did no good. They were polite but replaced our meal with another overcooked or low quality dish. And even when the quality is acceptable, the portion is so small you literally leave the restaurant hungry. There are much better options in Milford literally doors away from the Fauchere and Bar Louis. read more

I've been coming here for 15 plus years and tonight will be my last time. The prices have increased as portions and quality drastically decreased the last couple of years. Tonight was the final straw. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine from what has become a very mediicre wine list while looking at the menu. I was utterly confused when the server delivered what appeared to be 2 port wines. I asked the server and she replied that the new ownerships policy is 4oz wine pours. The wine we ordered sells locally for 16 bucks which means they are making a 500% markup on very basic wine. The server was very apologetic and told us they've been through 3 managers in the last year. We stressed to her that we understood it's not her fault but we decided not to order anything else and we will not be back. My boyfriend and I had reservations for Thanksgiving and we had to wait for the waitress just to come and asked us what we wanted. Then we had to wait on the drinks, then on the appetizers! We were there for over an hour and only had the appetizers so far so decided to leave! My boyfriend was nice enough to pay for the bottle of wine from which we only had 2 glasses and for the appetizers and even tipped the waitress as it wasn't her fault! The owner did not hire enough personnel for that evening! People next to us complained as well. It cost him over $100 and we were starving as we barely had anything to eat. I had 4 oysters!! This is a review of their drinks only: Wine was wildly not good, and definitely not for the price. I tasted two before deciding to go for their expensive cocktail instead. Unfortunately, the cocktail tasted like something I would make at home (I'm no bartender), did not even fill the glass, and was $18. Everyone working there was polite and quick, but seemed not very well trained. No wine guidance was offered (except telling me all the wines were dry) and I watched the bartender kind of fumbling around looking for ingredients for my drink. This was a Saturday night, when you'd think a bartender who knows what they are doing would be working... I wasn't expecting amazing, but hoping for at least average tasting drinks for these prices! Overflow from the hotel restaurant upstairs goes downstairs, but it's nicely decorated with photos of pop stars and elegant interior design. The service was good: attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. The salmon was perfectly cooked, which is more difficult than most think. And the oysters were very fresh (Monday special). It was a bit pricey, but my main complaint was that the menu didn't have local trout or similar. Not sure why it's so difficult to find freshwater fish to eat along the Delaware River or local beer or wine. Everything is fried and high calories. My meal here was delicious, but I'm not sure there's anything else I'd eat here. How about some local specialties. read more

My better half and I had dinner there last evening. Not our 1st time and certainly won't be our last, but dinner was totally disappointing. The snails were dry, butter on the side, no garlic in sight. Caesar salad was actually more like a frisee salad, Red Leaf lettuce, little Caesar taste. Should have known when the server asked if I wanted Pancetta added to the dish. Next Duck, Breast and Confit Leg, was served with a blanket of salt covering the dish, sent it back, they wiped the salt off, it was all over the plate and sent it back out. We sent it back with a serious complaint. The Steak Tartar was passible, certainly not a home run. We finished with a slice of Apple Tatin, crust was 1/4" thick and tuff, had trouble trying to cut with a fork, had to use the fork tines to break off pieces. Also, the topping was seriously lacking in apples, more like a jam spread. To be fair the service was excellent, and the Manager offered to cook the Duck over himself. As I said earlier this was not our 1st visit and will not be our last, but the kitchen was seriously off last evening, perhaps the Chef needs a refresher course. read more

First time dining at Bar Louis. We chose to sit on the patio and it was lovely even with the rain. We visited on a Sunday and had a 5:30 reservation. Our waitress was excellent. We were a party of 4. 2 of us chose the Chicken Dish and the other 2 chose the burger. The chicken dish was delicious. Very tender and juicy. My only complaint was it stated on the menu it came with Fondant Potatoes and there was only one potato on the plate which was disappointing since the potato was delicious. The burger I am told was average. Nothing special. For dessert 2 of us had a Cappuccino which could have been a little hotter and 2 of us chose the Apple dessert which was nice but nothing spectacular. It is Christmas Eve, 2024, and they are the only restaurant open in town. They literally had TWO entrees on their "limited" menu - a burger and a plant-based "steak". Not feeling either one, I ordered the french onion soup and a caesar salad. Drinks were ordered when we sat down and our food came BEFORE our food. There were literally five customers in the place. Two bites in to my $17 salad, I noticed that the lettuce was bad (brown) and I sent it back. The manager came over and said it was "red" romaine. Yes there was red romaine too but this was BROWN romaine. It was clearly not red romaine. I eat a lot of salad and I can tell when lettuce has gone bad. It literally took two bites before sending it back and they still charged me for it! I mean really? After I complained, they took it off, but this place has been going down the drain for the past few years. The atmosphere is wonderful, but the menu, food and service leaves a lot to be desired. I live in Milford and I will NOT be returning to this place ever again after giving it so many chances hoping that SOMETHING will improve, and it NEVER does. Two items on the menu - a burger and a "plant-based" steak? And apart from holidays, the menu is no better - not many options at all and I am just done. Such a shame for a town that has so few restaurants. I ALWAYS leave Bar Louie disappointed. Sushi pizza is as amazing and filling; not too spicy but a nice kick. Octopus salad was a major treat! Such a flavor. We also tried the deviled eggs; shrimp cocktail with lemongrass, and the French onion soup. They were all superb. Don't skip dessert: order some cookies baked to order. We ordered the beet salad with goat cheese, very good and the charcuterie board which was very disappointing, odd cheese variations, not much as far as dips, drizzle or crackers, just a hunk of Italian bread. Would not order this again. Drink menu was small but unique we had the rendezvous and the old fashioned both were good, I asked that my second drink be a tiny bit sweeter, it was and I would have enjoyed it had I not waited so very long to get it. I was completely done with my main course before it came, the server was in a very long conversation with another table, they seemed to know each other. I actually heard a second server go by the kitchen and ask who had a drink order because it's sitting on the bar!!! When the drink finally arrived I said that took too long and they offered to take it back but I kept it but was annoyed as they also blamed the bartender for taking so long to make it!!! Entrees were delicious and nicely presented, black garlic salmon was so good I'd go back just for that, second entree was the strip steak and was equally enjoyed. Their signature dish that they are known for is their sushi pizza. That is what brings me back every time. They offer a seasonal menu and change their menu pretty often. Their burgers are the most consistent item on their menu it doesn't change that much and its always delicious. They have a very extensive beer and wine menu which I feel that a lot of thought was put into it. They seem to be ahead of the trend because they offered IPA beers before they became popular. They also offer interesting non alcoholic drinks like their lime and molasses drink. You would expect it to be sweet but it was not and it had a very unique refreshing sour flavor. We only stopped in for a drink, but what a romantic place this is in the basement of the Hotel Fauchere. The male bartender is fantastic, so friendly and professional. I bet he could make a killer martini. Interesting photography art on the walls. I would love to be tempted with more savory plant-based snacks-- right on the menu, and how about dessert too? Nice ambience in a gorgeous well-kept historic building. Staff was absolutely welcoming, kind and very accommodating --- as far as the chef and management structure allow. My issues for a Monday night: A)-- several items NOT available on an already limited menu. Two I'd wanted. Oh well. Post-covid, I thought. I continued search menu. B)--I was dining alone and asked that my third menu choice "Charcuterie for 2" be pared down for one. Staff consulted management. Chef said no, could not do. What? This is customer non-focus. Charcuterie consists of foods that are simply cut/arranged/served. WHY NOT serve a single person? Frustrating. C)-- Bar Louis Prices are exceedingly high: 1) Top shelf martini $14 each. 2) Food: $11 for 1/2 cup of soup in a big wide-brim bowl. I measured the quantity. I make soup all the time and I know measurements. Tasted good but gouging the customer pricewise. 3) NO BREAD came with the $11 one-half cup of soup. I asked for bread which was provided and good yet cost another $2 for two rolls. Soup + bread Bar Louie price: $15 with tax. I will not recommend Bar Louie. Hope that this review promotes discussion with their great staffers to appeal to different paying customers. read more

I've been here a half dozen times over the past few years and the experience is consistent. Start with the fact that it's local river and farm to table. The selections are very unique and plentiful. The wine is never disappointing...lots of character and balance. It's an intimate atmosphere. The service can be slowww... but...this is a sensual place to enjoy slowly! So don't expect to be pampered with service. The food and the ambience is worth it. They serve a savory dish as exciting as dessert...the Sushi Pizza, very strongly recommended by the bartender, Vince, who btw was great...really knew his stuff and handled my questions well. It's a personal size, sticky rice base thick like a deep dish pizza, lightly tempura fried, then topped with ahi tuna and scallions and finished with spicy mayo and lots of tobiko. It was delicious. This gem is definitely worth a special trip. I adore the Hotel Fauchere upstairs. One of my all time favorite hotels. read more

3 years later and it was still as good as I could remember ! I had dinner here one time 3 years ago and I have been craving their sushi pizza ever since. I was so happy to happen to be in a nearby town and made sure to search online if they still had the sushi pizza and was so excited to find out they did. I had dinner in their outside porch giving the current circumstances and I can tell you that it was worth dining outside in an 18 degrees weather. They do offer heaters and blankets which is a very nice touch and it does the work. I am certainly very pleased that I got to finally eat my sushi pizza again and it exceeded my expectations again. read more

Horrible. This place has really gone downhill. The Chef obviously does not know what he is doing. We were provided an amuse-bouche which was a spin on chicken and waffles (except that was a pancake). It was ice cold and tasted awful. They keep changing the menu, leaving off the best dishes and replacing them with weird non-appealing dishes and they are constantly running out of everything! (seriously? why put it on the menu then!) Atmosphere is always fun but they need a new Chef and a new menu. Will not go back. It used to be a go-to place for decent food since Milford has ZERO good restaurants. But you can't even rely on this place anymore. It's pretty bad when diner has better food than the restaurants!) This review is for the porch dining. The food here is good, although pricey. The service is the reason for the two star review. We made a reservation, and requested the patio. While standing at the hostess stand, the hostess gave our table away! We waited about 10 minutes for the next available table, so no big deal. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks from the bar to come out, and 30, yes 30 minutes for our dessert to come out. For a meal for two that costs upwards of 160$, I expect more effective and efficient service. The food however is delicious, and the porch and dining area is beautiful. It is disappointing that the service isn't on par with the rest. read more

Stopped in for lunch not realizing they were only serving brunch on an early sunday afternoon and I guess I didn't expect the decor in this area - a very chic, but comfortable space. We chose a booth which had nice large seats with a comfy pillow in the corner. I saw a few people enter and look around thinking they weren't in the right place. I guess when you walk in it looks more upscale expensive and you wonder if you are ok just wearing jeans. After a few min the feeling fades.. the place is more approachable and down to earth then it initially looks. The brunch menu looked great.. too bad we werent in the mood for brunch items and more in the mood for lunch. They did not have the full menu of lunch items, but we were able to find some solid choices. My wife and I had the french onion soup - which, as the other reviews said, was delicious. The texture of the cheese was just perfect. My wife ordered the fried kale salad with egg on top and this was delicious with a serious kick to it. I went with the grilled eggplant sandwich - it was quite flavorful and the bread was a tasty baguette. We had good service, but the place was not overly busy with maybe 5 - 6 tables filled while we were there. We had no complaints and the wait staff was quite friendly. We looked at the dessert menu, but decided instead to go to the Patisserie next door which is great idea to grab some good stuff for the road! They did have some interesting choices though and if we weren't on our way back to NY perhaps we would have ordered. In any case, we will be back when we are in the mood for brunch and would also like to hit this place for their lunch menu! I hopeful that when I get to know this place better I can up this review to 5 stars.. all the elements are there - I hope they are consistent. read more
