Come for the mushrooms, stay for the cake (or give it to Mom )…read more I've had The Wine Cellar on my must-try list for months, and it finally happened. This cozy, candlelit little spot is literally in a cellar--and it oozes charm. Pro tip: they're only open a few days a week, so call or shoot them a Facebook message to make sure you're on the list! Now the food... We started with the Drunken Mushrooms, and let me tell you, they were earthy, wine-kissed perfection. I skipped the garlic bread and just went full fork-to-fungus. No regrets. Next up: the homemade gnocchi with a meatball. Loved the meatball--meaty and not weighed down by breadcrumbs. The gnocchi was a little denser (which I like!), and it all just felt lovingly made. The Baked Haddock was fresh, light, and bathed in a lemon-wine sauce that made me want to go in for seconds... if I wasn't already full. But dessert called. We split the coconut cake, and it was gorgeous. Light, fluffy, with just a whisper of anise (which isn't my fave, but my mom was over the moon about it). This place feels like a secret passed from friend to friend--and now I'm passing it to you.

I really like the hotdogs haha :) Service is always impeccable and even when they're busy it doesn't skip a beat. Very sports bar feel, but also a pizza kitchen. Cool place to say the least. We just moved to State College for work and so far it's been great. We went to Otto's for dinner…read morelast night and it was underwhelming. The waitress was very nice, Tayler or Tyler I think, the atmosphere was a bit fancy for a brewery but fine. The problem we had was the food. My wife ordered fish and chips and I had the Ruban, mine was fine except it was like the vanilla of Ruban's. My wife, however, asked for tartar sauce and got cocktail sauce. The waitress had no idea what tartar sauce was, no problem, but we expected the cook staff would but nope, tartar sauce was up there with unoptainium, didn't exist. The other issues are small, the waitress was thrown off by the tartar sauce issue I think and we rarely saw her. She forgot my beer order twice, never tried to do anything to keep us there, upselling like more drinks or desert. Granted, she was very young so it's understandable. Lastly, the beer was fine but the options were kind of weak. I had a pilsner that was very average, it's not a complaint so much as I kind of expect more from an onsite brewery. It's all personal taste so I get it. We will probably try it again but it will be a little while.

I nicely offered to tell him how to make them correct when he first brought the incorrect ones but he just grabbed our bills and said he'd be back. After the fourth attempt at getting them right he took off around the corner and our ladies heard him Say "JC!" Well the bills were wrong again. At this point he finally slowed down long enough to let me tell him who actually had what for dinner and he subsequently brought our correct bills with which he now slammed down on the table and said "if that's not right I'm going home." On top of that all 3 ladies complained their mixed drinks were weak. And one more thing, they add an automatic 20% service fee on your bill for a 6 top. Who does that? Maybe an 8 top but for just 6 people?? Needless to say we were upset and really disappointed with the whole experience. And there's no way I would have left a 20% Tip after that show of incompetence and incivility. We will not be back!

My kids took mom and dad on an expedition on July 11th that involved the local Wild Animal…read moreSanctuary and then we went to the Rusty Rail for lunch. I had a brisket sandwich, wife had a really immense chicken salad. My son had a ruben sandwich and I can't remember what my daughter had. However, all the food was really great and I really did enjoy myself. After lunch my daughter took me to the Rusty Rail store and I bought a nice T-shirt. If you do buy a T-shirt, I want to say, while the shirts are great, wash up nice and feel really comfortable, make sure you buy an upsized shirt. Normally I take a large but I decided on an XL and I am glad I did because after washing the XL fits perfectly. And I got to speak with (I think either the manager or owner) about the music they were playing. They were playing songs from my favorite singer, Bob Seger. I have every Bob Seger song he ever published on either, CD, Cassette Tape (yeah, still got one that works), or vinyl record. Told him he needs to check out the Bob Seger song Little Victories. I actually have a vinyl record with just that song. It is the large 78 version. That was a rare find and I actually found that in Germany in the mid 80's. The song says a lot. Anyway, after speaking with the man, my daughter said I could pick out and mix my own six pack of beer. Let me tell you, Rusty Rail makes some really, really fantastic beer. I would have to say my two faovrites are Wolf King, a stout with coffee & oatmeal and the other is Fool's Gold, Peanut Butter Hefeweizen. Oh my God, those two are absolutely great beers. I should be living in Mifflinburg because I would be making a weekly stop at the Rusty Rail. And for all you ex-military people, the Rusty Rail does give a discount to military. I hope my kids take me to the Rusty Rail again next year. Oh, in case I did not say it. The kids took mom and dad to the Rusty Rail and the Wild Animal Sanctuary as a gift for our birthday's and Mother's Day and Father's Day. It just so happens my wife was born on Mother's Day and I was born the day after Father's Day. The atmosphere of the Rusty Rail is great, it is simply a real nice place to socialize. And as a compliment to the Rusty Rail, I want to add this. When I go out to eat, one of the first things I do is use the restroom. Why? To see how clean the restrooms are. If a venu's restrooms are dirty, find another place because if they can't keep the restrooms clean, then they don't care about your food much either. The restrooms at the Rust Rail were immaculately clean. JUST TO BE CLEAR, THE RESTROOMS AT THE RUSTY RAIL ARE IMMACULATELY CLEAN. Thank You Rusty Rail for a wonderful time with my family.

We tried stopping in once before and they were completely booked for the night. This time we planned ahead, made a reservation, and were seated right away. At the recommendation of our waitress, we all ordered the chicken and waffles special, and every single person loved it. It was absolutely delicious. I also had the Reuben soup and it was very tasty. They also have a wonderful beer selection. I tried the blueberry beer, which was very tasty with a smooth blueberry finish that really stood out. If you're looking for a great brewery with good food, great beer, and a fun atmosphere, I would definitely recommend checking this place out!
