We were curious and asked the staff about them. She told us they were from Rusty Musket Distilling. She also mentioned that the distillery was located on the same street so we quickly checked the map. We found out they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays and luckily for us, it was Saturday and they were still open when we finished dinner. So we decided to stop by afterward. It's a small place with a bar counter and a couple of tables. We mainly wanted to do a tasting and pick up a bottle as a birthday gift for our aunt. We tried the moonshine and two different whiskies. I'm not usually a whisky drinker but the maple one was sweet and surprisingly enjoyable. In the end, we bought the Mountain Rita which is their margarita-flavored moonshine. It really does taste like a margarita and is dangerously good. It doesn't taste strong at all, even though it's 40% alcohol! Our aunt has lived in Latrobe for more than 30 years but had never heard of this distillery. I have a feeling she's going to love the Mountain Rita and start telling everyone about it!

They also host different food trucks. When we arrived, we were really not sure where to go. There is no defined driveway or parking and there quite a few cars. My brother said they had parked in front but we should probably park in the back because it was getting busy. He said they were seated under the old greenhouse near the back. We parked and started walking to the greenhouse. This did not even look like an event space, there was really no guidance or direction of what to do. The greenhouse had most of the walls removed and there was a food truck parked near one side of it. We found them near the back of greenhouse at a table. Next to the greenhouse were some pop up canopies. People were seated all over the place on random tables and chairs. I don't think any of the four chairs at our table matched. We also saw some people carrying their own chairs. After our greeting, my wife and I wanted to get a drink and they told us to go up to wine shop where we could pay the cover charge to get the wristband and get drinks.  We found a door on the back of the building and walked in. The inside was kind of random. I saw antlers on the floor, a small scale covered wagon and other random stuff. There was a counter where you could see that people were ordering drinks and we got in line. We paid our cover, got our drinks and headed out to check out the food truck. They have wine, a few different beers and boxtails (cocktail in a box). After getting our food, we joined my brother and his fiancé at their table. A band started playing classic rock music and continued off and on during the evening while people danced and sung along. The place was packed, had food and good drinks. This is a very casual place almost like it was just thrown together. You need to check it out at least once.  They do not have bathrooms and only offer portable toilets. Overall it was a good experience and definitely different.

I was happy to snag a reservation for the Tasting Room at Waltz today as I planned a leisurely…read moreafternoon. I placed a reservation request in the morning, and they called me in the early afternoon to let me know there was availability, which was great. I appreciated the variety of 15 wines from which you could sample to create your tasting. My picks consisted of: -2020 Sauvignon Blanc -2020 Fusion (white) -2020 Cellar 1599 Riesling: Cellar 1599 is a Waltz label, for reference. -2018 Cellar 1599 Red Blend -2017 Baron Red I won't go into detail on my experiences with each wine, but I did have a glass (and then buy a bottle) of the Riesling. The tastings come in little tasting tubes that are basically test tubes. While some might find that unusual, I'm a science person, so I liked it! They also have a cheese board (choose one of four cheeses) with chocolate and crackers, which I added. The tasting room staff were friendly and accessible. It was a beautiful day and lots of families were out on the large lawn. Too bad there isn't a restaurant here, or it would be even more of a win. In any case, Waltz is a winner!

To…read moreme, the wine here has more of a California feel to it - the reds are more dry, a bit more robust and rustic. The whites tend to be crisper, feature minerals and ease into the finish. You'll pay a little more than nearby wineries, but the difference in quality is immediately apparent. The estate tasting room itself is somewhat unassuming - nice, Tuscan-inspired, but understated. The room is smaller, with some spacing available near the barrels, but this isn't a "big tent" kind of place. If you'd like a seat inside, you may have to come off-peak or be patient. Guests tend to linger here, and it's often because of the at atmosphere. If not, the surrounding property is a nice place to enjoy your wines. There are chocolates, cheeses, crackers and very light, local creations available. I'd love for there to be even more food choices - these wines are designed to accompany a good meal. If you're okay going slightly off the beaten path, and paying just a little more for quality wines, this is the place to visit in Lanco.

My wife and I enjoyed a flight tasting and opted to go with the larger pours (slightly more expensive). Let me just say, they aren't messing around with those larger offerings! They present the glasses in a unique and lovely spiral serving rack, and each sample was closer to a typical glass of wine. There's more than 40 unique offerings on the menu, so we went with a divide and conquer approach. My wife opted for whites and assorted sweet wines, I went with dry reds. As we worked our way down, sharing each other's flights, we found all the wine to be very good. Honestly, we could've bought a bottle of most everything we tasted. We particularly enjoyed the Pinot Noir (see attached label and don't mind the corners, I took the photo as I was removing the label for my wine journal). But what's nice about Seven Mountain is that most anyone can probably find a wine that fits their preferences (or multiple options for that matter). The Petite Sirah, Cab and Merlot are also good choices for dry reds. Plenty of good white choices as well - both the Riesling and the Dry Riesling are excellent, as are the Chardonnay, Vidal and Pinot Grigio. Dry, crisp, flavorful - perfect for pairing with cheeses or fish dishes. If you opt for the larger samples, my one piece of advice would be to budget enough time to drink responsibly. The tasting room is conveniently located near other shops and restaurants, so feel free to make an afternoon of it and support some local businesses.
