It was my first time visiting Louisville, along with many friends and colleagues on a work trip. Hideaway became more or less our "spot," or at least where we started our evenings. I'm going to admit that I did not even know that this place existed until we stumbled upon it after a night out to eat. We wanted to grab another drink somewhere so we just randomly walked in a direction and this place looked interesting so we wanted to try it out! I love the atmosphere of dive bars and they tend to have nicer people there so I was excited to try it! When you walk in, there is a wall of screens on the left all filled with people playing various video games. We went up to the bar, and the bartender was welcoming and friendly and got us our drinks right away. There wasn't a ton of places to sit in the main bar, but I also didn't venture anywhere else in the bar to see if there was additional seating anywhere. But either way, we hopped on a screen to play some video games so we were perfectly content without a table. We had so much fun here! And after reading some other reviews, I realize that there was a whole other floor that we didn't even know about! I would've loved to play some other games, so I will definitely make it a point to get up there next time. read more

I really love this bar! We came here for a group meetup with some fellow nerds, and I felt like this place was very relaxing and chill when you compare it to some nearby bars, that tend to be loud and overcrowded. It's definitely for a certain demographic, they have a row of TV's to play video games, anime playing on the projector screen and pool tables/darts upstairs. So depending on your scene, you may or may not want to come here. The bartenders were friendly and happy to serve us, we never had to wait too long for anything, and they also had someone grilling out back for those who wanted to buy food. Over the the weekend we went her for the first time as part of a date night. First thing to note to enter you have to walk up a flight of stairs and if you want to play pool or ping pong that is up a second flight of stairs so plan your shoe choice accordingly. Bartender was super friendly. We ordered 2 different kind of ciders and played some mario kart while enjoying them. Most games systems were setup for fighting games. And they only had one system with ibe controller playing legacy console games which was a little disappointing. It's a small bar but I can definately see us coming back. read more

I was recommended this place by a friend and they said they had an awesome time. It was kind of secret feeling when you walked in because it's hidden as the name would suggest directly across the street from guitar emporium and book and music exchange. The vibe is awesome as are the people in the bar. It has a kind and energetic feel that reminds me of a more adult rec bar. They have a few consoles to play on and two ping pong tables upstairs which are all free! They also have a pool table and the drinks are cheap. The staff was all super friendly. They don't have a large selection or food but there are plenty of restaurants around to eat at before you come. I will definitely be back! read more

Hideaway is one of my favorite dive bars in Louisville. It truly is hidden away, so good luck finding it! I stopped in during happy hour - domestic bottles were $2.50. The bartender was very nice and told us about the video games around the room we could play. There are ping pong tables upstairs. I've been here many times with a large group and it's nice to sit upstairs with your buddies and play ping pong, kind of like being in high school again in your friend's basement. There's also a huge projection screen that I've seen people playing video games at before, but this time, The Conjuring was playing - awesome. This time, I discovered something new! There's a beer garden in the back! I had no idea! We drank our beers back there and enjoyed the unusually warm-ish weather. read more

I love a good dive, and was so excited to see one tucked along Bardstown Road, aptly named the Hideaway Saloon. Near my apt, you have to climb up some kind of shady stairs to get to the bar. Now this is my kind of bar. But it just wasn't. The waitress was nice enough, but the crowd seemed unthrilled that we were there. Like we were in their territory. Nothing wrong with regulars. But at most small joints they are like the mini welcoming committee. Our first time at Pauley's they shared their homemade chili with us! The drinks were cheap and we stuck it out for 2 rounds, unfortunately right before the music started. Maybe from Joey's review it all chills out and such with the music pumping. But with all the awesome dive bars to choose in the Ville, I just don't see myself ever going back. For me the Hideaway will just have to stay hidden. read more

This place is totally bad ass! Stumbled upon it Friday afternoon just after arriving to the highlands for vacation. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, and super easy to miss. Very divey, dark but fun! The bartender was a guy from Chicago, and he was really cool. Inexpensive drinks, dollar Jell-O shots and video games!! It was awesome beating my boyfriend in super smash bros!! All for free. We were able to play ping pong up stairs, and there is also a pool table. Places like this don't exist where I'm from, so it was really a treat. There are TVs throughout the first floor, all available to play different games! The whole place could use some updating, but if a dive is why you're looking for, you've found it. read more

A decent enough dive, just not usually my scene. Went in on a week day for a group for a friend's birthday drinks. I think we were the only once in the place. The bartender (Kansas?) was super friendly and nice. Drinks were cheap and good. I'd been another time when a band was playing on a weekend, and it was kind of meh. Checked out the band ahead of time but nothing ever said they were a jam band. And it was a different kind of crowd. I'll be back some day, I'm sure. Tucked away in a narrow passage is a bar they call The Hideaway Saloon. A dive bar for gamers is all I can say about this bar. They have several systems to play on, they also have darts, pool, and ping pong. Feeling nostalgic, I played Mario Kart on Nintendo 64 with my friend. Their Jell-O shots are very good. One thing I'm not a fan of is that their pours are not that good for the price other than that it's a pretty decent bar. I'm not from Louisville, but I checked out three different bars last night that had live music going on, and this place was by far the best. It was cool. It was diverse. The people were accepting and comfortable in their own skin. The music was phenomenal. A talented funk/soul band jammed throughout the night, keeping everyone on their toes, yet not blowing the place out with volume. You could talk over the music, but it was still loud enough to groove to without feeling out of place. There's a couple of tables to sit at, but you probably want to stand and socialize when you walk through the doors. The bar tender has been working there for five years, and he's very apt to pouring good drinks and making you feel at home. The name connotes a "rustic" sort of "hang out" spot, and that's exactly what this place is. No dress code- just good people, good drinks, and good music. read more

Walking down Bardstown, trying to find the right address, I kept walking past businesses, thinking no, no, that couldn't be it, and then suddenly I'm faced with these wide planked steps stretching long almost the width of an alley while my neck cranes up, and I just think YES. Perfection. When I walked in, there were literally only three people there. My friend, the bartender, and her husband. So probably my experience was a bit different than a lot of people have, but I thought it was phenomenal. The bartender, Kansas, was a complete sweetheart. You'll know her by the kind face and Kansas shaped necklace. The band had apparently canceled, so the people who would usually have been there then weren't. I didn't mind because the music that was playing was great, Kansas was watching her team play on TV, we talked about the latest political shenanigans in the news, and all just chilled and enjoyed the cozy, empty bar. I'm reserving full judgment and one more star until I go back again. For now though I have to say that it reminded me of my favorite dive bar in Santa Cruz in that it had a homey feeling to it, and finding a bar with an unpretentious non-a*hole bartender who treats you like a person is always a find. I frankly can't wait to return. read more

Big fan of this bar! They have jello shots year round. This place almost feels like someone throwing a chill house party rather than a bar. They have video games in a variety of consoles you can play and have ping pong and pool upstairs. One weird thing is the women's bathroom. There are 2 toilets, but not separate stalls, just a small 3 ft-ish. You can lock the door so you don't have to worry about strangers walking in. It doesn't bother me, I always get a chuckle and makes it easier for me and my friends to go to the bathroom at the same time! read more

It was my favorite dive bar, great live music and cheep drinks. it also has a quite upstairs with a couple of pool tables. My only complaint is that they recently raised the price of their drinks from dirt cheap to a very standard bar price and they added measured shot pourers on all of the well bottles both of which take away a lot from its cheap shady charm. read more

I truly have nothing bad to say about the Hideaway. My boyfriend and I moved to the city in July and this place helped us make our decision! Every time we come here, we meet new people, whether it be staff or guests, and they treat us wonderfully. The drinks are very inexpensive AND they have $1 jello shots (how could your resist?!). If a band is playing (which is usually every day) it is only a $5 cover and that money goes straight to the band. If you're a big Abercrombie priss, you may be unnerved by their "eclectic" clientele, but it's a neighborhood place and everyone is there to chill. You might even catch a girl at the end of the bar with her sketch book and colored pencils out completing an intricate drawing. Grab a brew and go upstairs where you can shoot pool and play... Ping Pong! This was the cherry on top, for me. After pounding a couple Buds and crushing the in-laws, I declared The Hideaway Saloon the greatest.
