Good drinks, good time, good bar. My pal loves this place and we were on Alberta today, and stopped in for a couple and a snack. Nice HH, see menu. Crisp chicken, a little bread-heavy, but earth-shattering on that fry! Nice! Calamari, for me, meh, okay, but nothing to report there...and the soup...oh....the soup.... I don't like giving bad reviews, but watery, no salt, no flavor, no nothing on that soup--nuff said. Fries are where it's at. Drink prices are stellar, and the company is friendly and willing to chat! Dog-friendly and just a good place, if you're looking for a casual bar.

The chicken skewers, not cooked yet somehow burned.

I could only tip $2 on a $19 check (which I admit is lame, but times are super tough all around.) Apparently that means I deserve burned yet somehow still raw chicken served to me with a ton of attitude and a 30 min wait for an appetizer order. Good stuff.

Super divey. Super warm welcome. The Hilt is great for bar bites and good old-fashioned cocktail. Our bartender was super professional and personable.

Saganaki (Fried Graviera cheese) with Lemon and Pita bread - The Hilt
    Michael S.

Mediterranean food plus Portland pub seems like an obvious champion, but The Hilt was more average than all-star. Of course, a-ok is still good (3-stars). The patio dining area (after ordering at the bar) was a relaxing environment to enjoy a couple beers while downing a couple beers. Saganaki (Fried Graviera cheese) with Lemon & Pita bread was a-to-ok, but surprisingly dull lacking citrus zing or cheesy flavor. A more seductive order of Lamb-Pork Souvlaki (skewers) with Pita bread and Tzatziki also failed to be a superstar, yet, was filling. This place may not be awesomeness to the hilt, but it is The Hilt.

Bar/Patio had a great drinks and draft list and plenty of separated seating - 5/5 stars Ordered the calamari and it was over cooked and really salty - 2/5 stars Their other food options looked really good so looking so I'm forward to trying some of their daily specials!

Happy hour burger with kassirri cheese

Black ceilings, dark maroon walls, cool artwork and a pretty good burger. All the makings of a great dive bar. Oh don't forget the cheap beer during happy hour. Can't forget that. I enjoy a good dive bar. I've been to several around town now and even others on this very street. Simply, I was hungry and it was starting to rain and I liked the menu options. The menu is Greek influenced with several traditional dishes plus hummus and gyros. Also kasseri cheese. Yum. It was great on a burger. I got the happy hour burger with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and red onion. I also got the prior mentioned cheese. It was gooooood. Meat seasoned right, the saltiness of the cheese and the crispness of the veggies. It was enough, I didn't need to gorge myself on anything else. Believe me, I was surprised but then again, in Portland should it? Good food is everywhere. I need to find more of it. Enjoy.

Good food. Good brews. Got the Hellenic Burger and it was fresh not some of that prefrozen shaped shit. This was the real juicy deal. Not a huge beef water but it was good. I would enjoy if they put a beyond burger on the menu in stead of the garbanzo that I'm not a fan of although I haven't tried it. Over all great atmosphere and service. They have all the liquor and you need.

Overcooked fries (not sweet potato fries)

Food was overcooked, including the burger, and when asked for a new order of fries they never arrived. Hopefully others will have a better experience.

Used to be such a great bar. Music, ambience, bartenders. I don't know what happened. New owners? Bummer. Definitely nothing special.

Best local spot! Great drinks, playful cocktails and the BEST saganaki. I come once a week for the saganaki and never regret it.

You would see that it's going to a motel, you would think to add the silverware. Fortunately, I was able to get silverware from my motel's breakfast room. The lumpia were very good. They were not greasy at all. They are smaller than standard eggrolls, but because they use more meat and less veggies than your standard eggroll, they pack a lot more flavor. Everything inside was seasoned well, and I really enjoyed them. They came with a vinegar based dipping sauce that I liked The "garlic Ponzu" salmon poke? No, not nearly as good. For the price they were charging, it was not a very big portion. Besides that, it just wasn't that good. A good salmon is normally pink to orange. This salmon was barely pink. I couldn't taste the garlic or the Ponzu at all. The veggies were crisp, the rice was a good quality, but there was just no seasoning. The salmon was very bland. I didn't know if it was just because of the seasoning, maybe they used a low quality or a previously, frozen salmon. I love good salmon. This was not good salmon. For the price I paid, not counting the DoorDash fees because those are added in anyway, I just felt I didn't get my moneys worth. Next time I'm in the area, I will find another place. Thanks anyway.

We were warmly greeted, seated in a booth, and promptly served a basket of crispy tortilla chips and homemade salsa. The family-friendly atmosphere had a cozy neighborhood destination vibe. We shared a carne asada platter with a chile relleno and taco al pastor. The carne asada was amazing! Generous portion of grilled meat that was perfectly seasoned. All the sides you would want...guac, pico de gallo, sour cream, grilled scallion and jalapeño, rice, beans cheese plus your choice of tortillas to wrap it all up in. The chile relleno had lots of melty cheese and was thinly battered, just my style. So much yummy food, plenty for two. We had grapefruit Jaritos and n/a Corona but the margaritas look to be very popular, we even saw several huge ones with two straws being shared. Cannot comment on dessert, not enough room. We will definitely be back. Perfect pre-theater dinner and looks to be a great spot for family dining. We'll be back!!

Chips and salsa were both weak. Most restaurants at least heat/refry the chips. The Chile Relleno is the eggy batter kind, with low-end chile like you'd find in a can. If this is the only familiar style of chili relleno then do yourself a favor and try the version at Salsas Locas in Southeast. Now that's something to brag about. The lunch special taco is only available in hard shell with a limited choice of ground beef (yuck), chicken or bean and cheese. The whole thing is topped with shredded iceberg lettuce (double yuck) then drowned in old school ranchero sauce with gobs of cheese. Very 1980s like. That said, the soft taco with carnitas was very good! So it seems like they have a mishmash of gringo Mexican and some authentic dishes. The interior is very inviting while the service was friendly and fast. Only saw Mexican staff and Mexican customers, a good thing. One and done for me, but many will enjoy this type of venue.
