Surprisingly busy (but understaffed) neighborhood dive bar, serving better than average cocktails for surprisingly cheap prices. My wife and I were wandering up and down Fremont, walking off the rather heavy meal we'd just had at Amalfi's, and checking out the various shops, restaurants and bars in the immediate area, when we decided to stop in. The thistle emblem on the door (a Scottish icon), and their establishment date (1979, my birth year) caught my attention, so we stopped in for a quick drink before heading home. The place was being held down by a single bartender, who deftly managed to handle all of the orders from the steady stream of wanderers and walk-ins (ourselves included) that poured in over the course of our half-hour visit. Her calm demeanor and seemingly lackadaisical mannerisms belied the fact that she could whip out a couple of drinks in the blink of an eye; no one was made to wait more than a few minutes for anything. That sort of effortless efficiency is the sign of a grand master, right there! I'm sure things are different during peak times, but the MO during our visit was: walk in, grab a table yourself (inside or out), place your food and drink orders with the bartender, and wait a reasonable, and occasionally brief, amount of time for your order to manifest tableside. I can't comment on the food quality at this time, but everything that passed by us looked pretty good to me, so I wouldn't be adverse to trying out the menu on our next visit. Our grand total for a (non-alcoholic) beer and an Old Fashioned (that was, thankfully, not muddled like they are at most dive bars) came to a whopping $12 bucks. At those prices, you can be damn sure we'll be back again when we're in the neighborhood and ready to party! McPeet's seems popular with the locals in the neighborhood, and if they're keeping people hydrated and lubricated this well, at these prices, it's not hard to understand why. Sláinte! read more

On impulse, I stopped in with work friends, both old and new. What a truly great experience this was. I would, without question, return to this popular neighborhood watering hole. We seated ourselves inside, so we could watch sports, most folks were seated outside, as the weather and temperature on the evening of May 19, 2023 was fantastic. To get a drink you come to the bar to order and pay or leave a card to keep the tab open. I believe there was only one bartender but, the line moved quickly while we were there. I was surprised to see CBD cucumber sparking water on the menu. I'm not sure how one can tell if there's CBD, and more importantly, about its highly touted benefits, but it was very refreshing. This is my second visit in 16 years, my purpose was to finally try their recommended burger. I've been going to Peter's Bar & Grill down the street for a similar burger. A comparison: Burger - the bun at McPeets is bland, at Peter's I believe they use a potato roll, but not sure. It's a little tall for my liking, which hinders functionality, but overall its good. Nevertheless, Peter's gets the vote, I remember thinking how good it was with each bite (the caramelized onions is a big reason), I didn't feel that way here. Tots/Fries - a tot is a tot, right? They seem crispier at McPeet's which gives them the nod. Moreover, the portion is large and the fry sauce is a big plus. Value - McPeets. It's about $2 less expensive. The one negative: long wait for food with only three customers at the bar. This place has a nice vibe, I'm surprised I haven't visited more often. This is the epitome of your local watering hole. The food is your typical bar food but it's actually good, although everything we tried was coincidentally fried, it was all pretty tasty. The onion rings were crispy and well battered making them really tasty. Fries were the perfect thickness, with just the right meat to crunchy ratio and the fry sauce was bomb. Mozzarella sticks came out hot and crunchy on the outside, gooey inside. Another win! We were invited to watch the Blazers game here and it was perfect for that. We really enjoyed the visit here. It's a no frills bar but with like $3 points of PBR and some tasty alcohol slushies for the wife, we are content. They've got a beer tap screen and do offer like 6+ beers, so plenty to choose from. Not too big a place with linked seated and post COVID, the seating is even now scarce but they do have a decent sized outdoor patio/seating area. Anytime I come to Portland to visit my dad, this is where we usually meet up. My dad is a regular, minus him being a complete lush lol. This is your laidback, chill, kind of dive bar atmosphere, which I prefer. I ordered the level pilsner and it was pretty good. The food here is great, I got myself a bacon cheese burger and some pulled pork nachos, yes I'm a fatass , sue me. I'd definitely order the burger again and the nachos. Also I love how they have a chalk board on the wall in the men's bathroom. I had fun with it and wrote some of my friends phone numbers on it, I'll post it on here no worries . I have walked past McPeet's on many occasion since living here in Beaumont-Wilshire but never had the opportunity to venture in. A neighborhood bar with a decent burger. It was walking past and smelling the grilled meat that made me finally go on in. I got there right at happy hour (4-7pm) and my pint of Pyramid Red Ale was only $3.75. There were several at the bar but for the most part the tables were all empty. Slowly the place started filling up. I got my food order in prior to the people coming in. I ordered the Brunch Burger. $9. A burger with lettuce, red onion, special sauce, bacon and a fried egg with fries. The burger was not bad. They seasoned it up great and the sauce was pretty good too. The burger was a little more done than I usually like and the egg, which I thought would either be sunny side or over easy so the yolk could run, was over well and got lost on the burger. The fries were good and they had "Fry Sauce" on the table which was a kicked up Thousand Island dressing with, I think, some horseradish in it. The place looked like a typical bar with bar signage, more burgers, sandwiches, a the usual app suspects on the menu and a dive feel to it. Decent neighborhood pub on Fremont with a sign ya can't miss! They have 5 TVs, good beer selection and good food. The bartender was super friendly and he made good recommendations. Pretty nifty place-- regardless of the fact that I crashed a pub with two of my girlfriends at roughly 10AM. Our table ordered two Irish coffees and one hot toddy. All three drinks were tasty and did the trick! (Portland is COLD at 10AM in January. Who knew??) When we walked in I noticed a big hair ball(the size of a small rat) that was left on the floor and not swept. I brought it up the server's attention who said oh that's not good. Then picked it up by hand. Put it in the trash. Didn't wash her hands and came back to take our order. We said we needed more time to decide. Never saw the server again. We walked out. This is a good local bar in the Northeast. Not too many frills, however it's always open during bad weather, the beer selection is diverse and priced reasonably and they'll play whatever game's on with the sound on instead of playing random background music. They've clinched the five stars for me because I went in last night after not visiting for a month or so and a bartender said, "Weren't you here before the holidays sitting over at that booth? I think you left your jacket here." It's really impressive since I've only been there a couple of times and two, I hadn't even realized I had left my jacket in the first place. Good job for being so thoughtful and holding onto my jacket and remembering me. I owe you guys, let me know the next time you need to shovel the walkway out front. read more

We have had Moms' Night Out here on Thursdays for about 4 years now, but it's getting too young for us. We still hang on by a thread all the same, but not as often. I still love it. The neighborhood pub. I like it, there are tables outside to hangout in the summer, and its nice inside to watch baseball/soccer too. They always have a game on one of the screens. The food is bar food, but they usually have a nice selection of Oregon beer to choose from. The service is always great when I go in, and everything just feels... pleasant? As I live right down the street, I've come here on many an occasion. It is unpretentious, has games [video games, pool, AND board games], and it never really that busy. The service is OK.. never particularly friendly, sometimes have to wait while the bartender is at the end of the bar chatting to a friend, but never been particularly BAD service. The bartender was great and the beer was cold and didn't taste like it was being poured from taps that haven't been cleaned in ages. The place is super clean and noticeably tidy and warm, but still very pub-ish. I'm looking forward to making this my regular bar. First off I loved the look of this place. The old school sign out front made it seem like the type of place your dad would grab a beer after a 10 hour shift at the factory. It's a nice little corner place with a classic feel that makes for a comfortable spot to drink beer and bullshit with friends. On the other hand, the service was fairly lousy. My empty glass sat on the bar for 5 minutes before I was offered a re-fill. The bartender seemed more interested in chatting up regulars and watching ESPN. When I did get a fresh beer the glass was never poured full. I'll go back to McPeets for a post-shift brew now and then, I just hope the service is a little friendlier. read more

I would have given our little local pub 4 stars until tonight. We have lived a few blocks from McPetes since 1990. We stop in for a beer or food every few weeks. Tonight we go in and there is a sign above the bar that says, "Please order at the bar". It's not a large place and at that time there were two people working. I went to order and there were so many people at the bar I had a hard time finding a place I could squeeze in and order. I'm sorry, please have someone come to tables to take and deliver orders. I've been coming to McPeet's for about 20 years with some friends who live in the neighborhood. As Portland changes around it, McPeets's manages to remain friendly and down-to-earth. A wonderful corner pub. Good beers on tap, and the food is tasty. Outdoor seating for sunny days. Some reviewers say they don't allow children, as if that's a bad thing. It's a bar... a respite, a place for adults to relax. If you want to hear screaming babies, there are many other places to go. read more

Great service, friendly & very sweet bar tender and chef. He went out of his way to make sure everything was good and it was nice to chat with him.
