I asked about the bakery items available, since there were only three, and asked him whether there were any more available and he sarcastically said that he wasn't hiding any baked items. Excuse me, but sometimes coffee shops will have baked items that they haven't come around to displaying yet. I decided to order the scone, which he told me was a lemon scone, even though I told him that the white icing had speckles on it, similar to vanilla bean. He affirmed in a snotty way, "It's lemon." After I received the scone and took a bite, I knew that I was right. I asked for a refund in which he insisted that what I had was a lemon. I told him how it didn't taste like lemon but vanilla bean. He insisted again. Yes, we were doing this. He lamented that his bakery person told him that it was lemon. Hey, if your bakery person tells you lemon, it's not on me. He gave me the refund. The latte I received was supposed to be a pistachio latte, not a pistachio latte taste at all. I wasn't sure what it was.

We…read morebooked Hotel KC because our friend's wedding was hosted there, and since we were driving up from Texas, we wanted to make things easier by staying at the venue. My boyfriend was one of the groomsmen, so his weekend was already packed. We checked into the hotel on Friday so we could help the bride and groom if needed. When we got to our room, I noticed the door didn't close all the way. I'm usually pretty cautious about hotels and Airbnbs, so I asked the front desk to fix it right away. My boyfriend had to leave for the rehearsal shortly after dropping off our luggage. A maintenance worker came quickly, but after 45 minutes, he removed the metal latch plate on the doorframe so the door would shut. I told him that didn't seem right and completely defeated the purpose of the lock, but he didn't speak English and was using Google Translate. He said it was a temporary fix and that the front desk would assist us later. The door did close, but it felt like anyone could easily break in. Since we had a busy schedule, we left for the rehearsal dinner around 6. After dinner, we returned and asked the front desk whether the door would be properly fixed that night or if we could switch rooms. The front desk agent said they had multiple weddings that weekend, so all rooms were booked and nothing was available. She also said, "Our hotel is very safe, nothing happens." That's not something you want to hear as a guest. If I'm paying for a room, I expect to feel safe, not wonder if I'll be the first to experience a problem, especially since I had multiple expensive camera gear with me. We insisted on having the door fixed before bed, so they sent an "engineer" upstairs. When we explained the issue, he told my boyfriend that the metal piece on the doorframe was just for "aesthetics." At that point, my boyfriend was pissed. He grabbed the room key and a plastic spoon, propped the door open in front of the engineer, and demonstrated the issue. The engineer ended up calling two more maintenance workers and told us to leave for our event while they worked on it. We had to go downstairs for a late-night meet-and-greet, so they stayed to fix the door... again. When we came back around 11:30 PM, someone was still working on it. They reinstalled the metal plate and told me to slam the door hard for it to close. We had to do it multiple times, at midnight, while our neighbors were sleeping. He said it was the best they could do since no other rooms were available. We were exhausted and just went to bed. Saturday morning, the day of the wedding, my boyfriend left at 8 AM for suit fitting and to get ready with the groom. He asked me to check with the front desk, and they said we could switch rooms, but not until around 3 PM (normal check-in time). I reminded them that the wedding would already be happening then, and they apologized for the inconvenience. They sent yet another maintenance worker around 9 AM, this time with a drill, loudly working on the door and frame. I couldn't stay in the room with that noise (video), so I ended up spending time in the groom's suite. It was frustrating to pay for a hotel and barely have any time to relax in the room. There were constantly maintenance workers coming in and out, and I never felt safe being there alone. They finally moved us to a new room at 1 PM, right in the middle of the bridal party photos around the hotel. I couldn't carry all our luggage myself, so my boyfriend had to help me while wearing his groomsman suit. After everything, the hotel never apologized for the inconvenience or offered any kind of compensation. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with their service. If this had been my wedding weekend, I would not have been this nice..

For the lucky ones, Lakewood CC offers a wonderfully manicured layout, with several twists and turns golfers love. The layout was quite a bit more hilly than I was expecting, and shotmaking was at a premium, as almost every fairway is lined with with houses, roads, trees or water. As we found out, errant tee shots deliver roof thudding "bangs", my drives were all straight down the fairway...wink...wink...as the surrounding houses are big and beautiful...an interesting side note, several houses have fortified enclosures providing some degree of protection, yet very entertaining on the level of ingenuity, fashioned to erect them. The greens are decent sized, but roll like glass, which adds a level of skill our 4-some was missing. Bunkers are plentiful, and well maintained. The highlight of my round occurred on holes 5 and 6, both pars 3's. 100 yds over water, then 130 yds onto a peninsula. Very creative holes tucked between houses and water... I was lucky enough to be invited to a tournament and play this wonderful course, so if you ever get the chance, jump on it...

There were 2 large folding tables available that we ended up using. The TVs and strobe lights were perfect additions to our event, we did bring our own speaker. There were several fridges and a nice rolling cooler for us to keep our beverages cold, and also an ice maker that we didn't end up using, but was nice to know it was there for backup. The views from the balconies were fabulous. Michelle was quick to answer questions and made the process super easy for us. We hope to book again in the future!
