Grand Canyon Zen - Front view of outside of the house.

If you're looking for a nice, tranquil and fun retreat near the Grand Canyon, this is the place you…read moreneed to book. I've stayed here twice already and both times have been nothing less that great. The first thing you'll notice are the calming neutral colors of the inside and outside of the house. Its minimalism allows you to take in the entire space and settle in like it's your own. The house has all the modern conveniences, including cable, wi-fi, a fully-equipped kitchen and a lovely BBQ area on the back deck that begs you to take advantage of it. The bedrooms (I've stayed in both the master and one of the other the rooms) are spacious and inviting. Even though you might only stay for a few days, the closet space is amazing. The master has a walk-in that makes me wish it was my own - with deep shelves and loads of space, as if you were planning to stay for months. One of the things I really appreciate is that there is separation from the active space of the home and the sleeping space. So if you're traveling with kids (or even some tired friends) you can still enjoy the front of the house while they are asleep in the back without any disturbance. The location is perfect for leaving your car parked. It's across the street from the Grand Canyon Railway and a 5-10 minute walk (depending on your pace) to the main strip where all the restaurants, shopping, and nightlife reside - which happens to be a part of the historic Route 66. There is a Safeway grocery store in the same walking distance, so if you want to fire up that BBQ in the back, you can easily fill up that grill with the goods. If you'd rather dine out, I'd recommend Red Raven, which has something for everyone. I've eaten there a number of times and have enjoyed everything I've had - steak, salads, patty melt, wine, etc. There's also a small Thai place down the street - Dara Thai Cafe. Definitely make a reservation here, because there are only a few tables. (Tell Apple we sent you!) If you're looking for some comfort food, Cruisers Cafe 66 is your place. There are also a number of other restaurants - Italian, Mexican, Country Diner, Steak House, but I haven't visited them yet. I will say this though, they are always filled when I walk by, so that has to say something. If you want to stay out a little later than dinner, Sultana Bar is a fun, divey kind of place where you can kick back and enjoy the local flavor. Pool tables, stocked bar and dance floor (with live music). Not to mention, just down the street from the comforts of home. It's a quiet town, but I really do like Williams and I really do like this rental home. It's modern, it's convenient and it's a great deal. May sound like I'm blowing a lot of sunshine, but trust me I'm not. This is truly one of the most serene places I've been to and I look forward to going back.

Holy moly! What a beautiful hotel surrounded by trees, grass and hornets…read more BTW, there was a hornets nest near the parking area; I had no issues while staying 2m away. The Jasmine room is just that, a room with an attached bathroom. I loved it. Quaint and lovely and comfortable. No AC but the ceiling fan and closed windows is enough to keep the room cool. The bathtub is protected by a curtain on a ring hanging from the ceiling. This is not load bearing! Do not use it to get in and out of the tub. All the shampoo, soap and bandages you could need are supplied. The hotel is a 5 minute drive from Williams. We picked up dinner, drinks and coffee there.

There is no A/C, the WiFi worked great. They have granola bars and other little snacks along with keurig coffee maker and pods available in the common rooms. Basic cable provided and two sitting chairs. If you have mobility issues, there is a ramp, but none of the stairs have hand rails. The claw foot tub is charming, but again mobility issues, there was a handrail on the wall next to the tub. The toilet was a standard toilet. Not a handicapped friendly property. The bed was not very comfortable at all. You are a short distance from the railroad so you hear trains a lot along with traffic from Rodeo Rd. I guess that's why they have ear plugs in the common room if you need them. Since there is a coffee maker it would be nice if they could add a microwave in the common area and some sort of fridge either in the rooms or in the common area. The location was in a neighborhood so you will hear dogs barking on occasion along with cats meowing.

This historic Grand Canyon Railway departs daily from Williams, Arizona to the awe-inspiring Grand…read moreCanyon. This train ride was so entertaining- it featured western musicians, cowboy characters on vintage rail cars, and an epic staged train robbery on the way back! It was quite the experience! We kickstarted our journey with a cool western showdown outside the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel (very amusing). Then we boarded our first class seats aboard the Grand Canyon Railway. It's a little pricier, but totally worth the leg room. The train ride is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes each way. Prices range from approximately $70 to over $230 per adult, depending on the class of service, with child fares available. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase (including alcohol). Overall, the experience was quite pleasant! The panoramic views are stunning! The staff are high-energy, funny, and charismatic! From start to finish, our journey was seamless filled with great entertainment and music for the whole family to enjoy!

3/5 3/5…read more Our family recently did the Grand Canyon Railway tour and purchased First Class round-trip tickets. Overall, it was... fine. Not bad, not amazing -- just somewhere between "bucket list experience" and "well, at least we can say we did it." Our attendant, Emmanuel, was friendly and told plenty of corny dad jokes throughout the trip. I actually appreciated the humor (some of them were so bad they came full circle and became funny again), but I expected a little more interaction and service considering the price of First Class. The snack selection consisted of fruit, cakes, crackers, and sodas, but everything was miniature-sized. It felt like we were attending a children's tea party. The platters were first come, first served, and some items disappeared within the first 30 minutes. I was surprised that First Class didn't include aisle service or beverage service. Instead, everyone had to get up and help themselves. I ordered a beer during the trip, which ended up costing a little over $10. When I paid, the screen presented me with multiple tip options, but the lowest one started at 18%. For a second I thought I had accidentally entered the "mandatory generosity challenge." I had to stop and look for the custom option because at first glance it felt like a "pick your tip and good luck" situation. A few musicians and performers came through the train singing songs, which added some atmosphere, although they were working for tips. Then, on the return trip, we experienced the staged train robbery which was entertaining, but also another opportunity to pass the hat. By the time we got off the train and our host was waiting at the door with an outstretched hand, hoping for one last handshake-with-cash exchange, I started wondering if the real Grand Canyon adventure was seeing how many different ways people could ask for tips in one day. The train itself could also use a little more attention. The windowsills were dusty, which took away from the premium feel we expected. The bathrooms were clean and spacious though. None of this ruined the trip, and we're glad we experienced it with our family. But for the price of First Class, I expected a more elevated experience. If this was First Class, I can only imagine what Coach felt like. Overall: enjoyable, but not spectacular. Three stars.
