I stayed here with my tour group and really liked that it was within walking distance to the Colosseum. It was also around the corner from a nice restaurant called OperArt. My roommate and I walked up and down those hive shaped stairs more times than I can remember. The elevator always seemed to be full, so the stairs seemed like a better option. The stairs were actually very nice with large windows. It was a bit disappointing to not have an iron or steamer in the room. I asked about an iron at the front desk and they said they could let me know when an iron was available and bring it to my room. I decided to skip it and not worry about a few wrinkles in my clothes. The bed was very comfortable, and my roommate and I were very happy with the cleanliness of the room. The breakfast was great with many different hot and cold food and drink options. I would definitely stay here next time I come to Rome! read more

Had an absolutely fabulous experience at The Hive! I spent eight days there and loved the location which is close to the trendy & hip Modi neighborhood filled with quaint shops, boutiques and fantastic restaurants. It's also close to the train station, a quick walk to the Colosseum, and a 10 minute taxi to the Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain area although some of my friends walked. The rooms are spacious and modern with recently upgraded bathrooms, plenty of room for your clothes including a large space for your suitcase, a refrigerator, safe, and working air conditioner. The daily breakfast served on the fifth floor was more than satisfying! Lots of Italian, European and American standards. WhenI travel I prefer the foods of the locals so I enjoyed fresh ricotta and sautéed spinach every morning with my eggs along with the most delicious olive oil & sea salt focaccia. Ano of course a cappuccino or two! It was the best way to start my day! They also had lots of fresh fruit, even more tarts and pastries, pancakes, oatmeal, bacon, yogurt, granola. Seating both inside and out on the rooftop patio, which is where I started my day. We had dinner at the same restaurant several nights and the food was fantastic! I stayed a few days more than my friends and the manager noticed that I was dining alone and let me know that he and the staff would take care of me. And they did! Grazie! The concierge was helpful with the few requests I had like arranging a taxi to the airport at 3:30 am and suggestions for a cooking class. There is a small grocery store, Coop, right around the corner and I stocked up on big bottles of water and snacks. Several great restaurants within blocks. I highly recommend Bono Bottega Nostrana just around the corner for the most delicious sandwiches! Definitely visit the Basilica Di Santa Maria Maggiore just a block away. It's one of the most significant of the four basilicas in Rome and also the largest. It is exquisitely beautiful and filled with incredible art, mosaics, frescos, statues and gilded gold everywhere! Even if you aren't religious, it's worth visiting for the history and art. Will definitely consider staying at The Hive the next time I am in Rome! read more

This hotel has amazing air conditioning which is critical right now due to unprecedented heat wave in Italy, and The Hive has an amazing rooftop restaurant and bar. We enjoyed having coffee and pastries from the buffet while overlooking the rooftops all the way to the capital and beyond. We even made a point of having our night cap up there, and their spritzes were on point. The breakfast was so/so, and generally better food and coffee await you just outside the hotel and train station. As for the staff, they were so helpful and called cabs for us whenever we wanted. The lobby is gorgeous and modern. And so close to Roma termini station! As for the room, so quiet and so comfortable! The bathroom was super large compared to everywhere else I've stayed. And the sheets were soft and great pillows too! We could really walk around the coliseum and wear ourselves out and come back to our hotel to get good rest. Five stars for cleanliness and comfort, though the food would get only 2-3 stars. Ps: there are more benefits and less clerical issues when you book directly from hotel websites in Italy. read more

We stayed at The Hive for four nights prior to departing Rome on a recent Mediterranean cruise. The hotel is conveniently located to many of the Rome sites and a quick walk to the Termini train station. Staff was always visible and willing to assist. Upon check in, we were advised the room was ready despite it being only 11am. We were given a room on the basement floor, that also houses the conference rooms. Initially, I had some concerns knowing we would be below street level, but our room was massive and shaped in their infamous hexagonal shape. The window also faced an indoor courtyard, so it wasn't total darkness. The price we paid for a prepaid reservation was also pretty cost-effective given the quality and location of the hotel. The only feedback I would have is to have more than CNN on the TV as English broadcast. read more

We reserved a table on the rooftop for my birthday dinner and WOW it was an incredible evening! Our waiter was extremely nice, attentive and gave us amazing service. The rooftop is gorgeous, it feels like a garden with a view! The food was super delicious. We had fresh tomatoes and basil from their garden mixed with feta cheese for an appetizer (so yummy). For dinner, I had the steak and my husband had the lamb chops. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and so tasty!! It was an amazing night, thank you!!! read more

Staying here for a couple of nights this week and was here for a night last week. This a hidden gem in the many hotels, restaurants, and bars that cover Rome. The Hive is simply amazing boasting a welcoming reception area, bar on the fifth floor, and tons of well equipped rooms. The staff, especially Francesca and Andrea, welcome me and made me feel at home. The rooms are of a good size, have huge bathrooms, and televisions that have a variety of channels. Also, the rooms are updated with tons of USB and international plugs and super fast wifi. I really do feel at home here as the beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet. I would recommend that anyone visiting Rome come here. Check out hotels.com for good rates!! It is definitely easy to get around with the Termini train station just being a 10 min walk away and other Rome must sees being so close! I cannot wait to come back here again!! read more

My wife and I made a reservation for our 10 year anniversary on the rooftop bar at The Hive. I ordered the fettuccini with white meat sauce and my wife ordered "Pinsa romana olio biologico e rosmarino" which is described on the menu as "Roman pizza with organic oilve oil and rosemary". As she ordered, we found it odd that the waiter kept asking if that was all she wanted, and she replied, "Yes, pizza is ok with me." What she received was clearly not pizza, but a stack of bread, despite using the word "pizza" clearly in the description. We even searched it on Google and it looked like pizza. It was bread. Though it was very good bread, it was not a meal, so she ended up ordering the same dish I got, which was very good. The pizza / bread debacle aside, we had a real tough time trying to get the waiter's attention after getting served. We wanted more water and I wanted another glass of wine, but we couldn't flag him down. I eventually got ahold of another waiter for the check, and he promptly brought us a little desert on the house and got the attention of our waiter. When we got the check we were mistakenly charged for two glasses of wine, which we brought to their attention. The pizza / bread dish was not comped, but we did not push the issue. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere was alright, but I do not recommend The Hive due to the poor service and unreasonable price for value ratio. read more

The four people in our travel party all loved The Hive. When we checked in there was a mix-up at the desk, they only has us down for one room instead of two. I showed them my Expedia confirmation and within under a minute the manager was talking to us and finding us two rooms in close proximity to each other. He also set up a car for us to go to the airport the next morning. I've never experienced such helpful and seamless customer service. Also, the architecture of the building is sort of mind-blowing in a passive, fun, weird way. On some level it feels like a cult built it. It's all hexagons, and hexagons within hexagons. The flights of stairs next to the elevator are arranged in hexagon formation, the courtyard in the middle of the building is six-stories of hexagon... it's a visually cohesive and spaciously-efficient structure that's just sort of fun to stay at. More importantly the rooms are well lit, spacious, and clean, and the ones that face the courtyard all have little balconies. Finally, there's a phenomenal restaurant on the roof that' somehow affordable (for a hotel restaurant) and offers pretty decent views of the city. They also served the cacio e pepe up with a twist (literally, some lime zest), which I'd never had before but was revelatory. If we're ever in Rome again I can't imagine staying anywhere else. read more

Loved it!!! Steps away from the center of historic Rome, this is a nice & comfy hotel. I would include the breakfast with your reservation to start your day of touring the ruins of ancient Rome. After flying 16.5 hours from California, it was super easy to take the Leonardo Train transfer from Rome's international airport directly (no stops) to the "mercatocentrale.it/roma" train station. Literally 3 blocks to the Hive hotel. We walked with our luggage to the hotel, but the cobblestone streets and sidewalks make it not easy, but definitely possible. We were in walking distance (like less than a mike to walk) of every major ancient & artistic site. We took the "Red Bus" to tour the city which was nice, but when we walked it was much more charming. Btw, the sunsets behind the Colosseum and Roman architecture is stunning. The is a block away from a number of street caffe' and restaurants that you can yelp. We are coming back in a week and staying at the Hive again. Loved it!!! read more

The hotel has it's positives like being centrally located, the rooms are good size for Rome, and it's relatively up to date, but the service we encountered was absolutely poor. Our family booked 3 rooms at the hotel. Upon check-in, the front desk staff seemed scatterbrained, they were dealing with other customers, possibly an issue with them. However, when we check-in, we think it was the manager that took over. He was rushing, which is fine, but was completely rude and abrasive. When we asked for a second key, he literally started speaking in Italian, obviously frustrated at the request, to his co-worker. We don't speak Italian, but we heard him say "Americano" in his rant. I can't imagine in any context is it OK to rant about someone asking for a 2nd key for a room and bring up their nationality. Obviously, I'm American and if you ranted on a customer and said "freaking Italian people" you'd be fired on the spot. read more

Stayed here for two nights while visiting Rome. The staff was so friendly and helpful! Our flight got in way earlier than when the room was available and when it came time to checkout we still wanted to explore. The Hive is a very modern hotel and a comfortable stay. The rooms are super spacious and the staff are very attentive. The hotel also has an onsite restaurant that we would strongly recommend for the breakfast buffet before hitting the streets! 4 stars because it is very easy to hear into adjacent rooms. We were next door to a family with small children that were a bit loud. It is also a bit of a hike to some of the more popular sites of Rome (which is okay if you don't mind the walk, but may not be a great fit for those who are older or have mobility issues). read more

First we come to the hotel late because our plane got delayed and after a long flight we wanted to check in and we do just to receive the wrong room, which was a room with a single bed and a pull out bed even though we booked a suite. This caused two of us to have to sleep on the Queen with one on the pull out bed and one on the floor which was somewhat understandable because of the late check in. But to add insult to injury we checked into the room and all over was advertisement for the spa, pool, and gym so we decide to go to the gym and we start to work out after signs the right documents, but only once we leave they tell the three of us it is 15€ per person with absolutely no warning. This wasn't a good experience and expected better service as this was a 4 star hotel, or at least a blow up mattress that we asked for and didn't receive. The city was amazing but I wish the hotel could match the cities level, truly left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

My wife and I just spend 4 night at this hotel. To be more accurate, we spent 3 nights there as the first night we were shipped off to another hotel at 2am when we checked in, due to a technical issue. We were assured the other hotel was the same as this one, but it was terrible. When we came back for the remainder of the holiday we were told that we would need to wait for an hour or so for our room to be ready. After not sleeping the previous night due to the heat in the other hotel (no aircon) we said that this wasn't acceptable. After all these issues that offered up a complimentary glass of wine! The English channels on the TV weren't working, the breakfast was disgusting. The whole stay was disappointing, so, so disappointing. Even getting the taxi to book a taxi to the airport ended in chaos. Never stay here! All this for 300 euros per night. Totally unacceptable. read more
