Within five minutes of entering the store you'll be screaming "I had that!" as you point at the toys from your nostalgic youth. Not only limited to mainstream popular items such as GI Joes and Star Wars figures, you'll find great items from obscure childhood classics from Toxic Crusaders to Street Sharks (the greatest cartoon show on Earth). Special mention to the owner, a passionate toy lover with a flare for bringing out nostalgic memories while educating you on the history of toy series and entertainment. He made the trip extra worthwhile, as it gave my visit a personal touch. I got three very good condition Street Sharks for the low price of $20. And though I live on California, it is good to know that Dr. Tongue does shipping orders to all over the country. Relive your childhood on this Jawesome toy store.

Oh, Wheels Dealer, how you have my heart…read more I came in here on a mission to find a specific car and spent hours just enjoying looking through the loads of cars (and I'm not much of a car person). It's located in a car dealership filled with some of the most kind-hearted people. Seriously, what's in their coffee? Every single person who worked around here was so genuinely kind. It's accessible and easy to find a parking spot upfront. When you walk in, you'll be greeted by Coco, the bird. Don't be alarmed when they go from "hi darling" to a screech while you're digging in the store. The owner, Randy, was a joy. He had a Hot Wheels holiday sweater on and was like a Hot Wheels elf running around. Every question, he answered. He was also extremely knowledgeable about those special cars you are looking for and had like radar sensors to find them. This is definitely a collector's heaven, but if you're like me and want to buy some specific Hot Wheels for some specific kids to shove up their noses or whatever, this is also the place for you. There were several bins filled with used Hot Wheels to dig through and pick out. I was able to get a full construction site out of Hot Wheels! Prices are extremely fair, and the owner also helps you find things in your price bracket. There was no problem when I changed my mind or switched a new Hot Wheel for a used one. He let me just dig around and have a blast. I recommend this place for families, for sure. As for collectors, there were a few collectors who were here while I dug around, and they said this is the spot to go to. So if you're a collector, definitely give this place a look. Not to mention, the collectors here were so incredibly kind and generous with answering more questions I had and sharing the love of Hot Wheels with others.

Outside of big retailers, there aren't many good, physical toy stores left and this one has all the feels of being a kid and going into a toy store with wondrous delight everywhere you turn. There is something for almost every age group and a nice price range of items to choose from as well: stuffed animals, puzzles, stickers, cute pens, toy cars, wooden toys, legos, and so much more. I almost missed the "hidden" book section in the back! I do agree with another yelper that the employees are rather aloof and a bit unhelpful, but there isn't much one can help, unless you are looking for something specific and you're in a hurry. I have been shopping at Kids at Heart when I come to Portland on business for quite some time. I…read moredid again this weekend. I have experienced a pattern of somewhat unfriendly behavior by some staff working at this store before, but really thought nothing of it until a recent experience both in their store and outside of. I will add however that not all employees here can be blamed for the actions of others. I also just happened to attend a birthday party early Sunday evening for my daughter's friend. Another individual was there, who coincidentally owns a retail store in the same area as Kids At Heart, and was explaining after the party to a few of us how he bought some Needoh there and how he was texting other parents ahead of this party that they could find them there too. He went on to say that days later, the owner of Kids at Heart barges in to his store during business hours, in front of his own customers, and accuses him or buying Needoh from her store and selling them at his. Mind you, he is showing us video footage from his phone to back up how outlandish the Kids At Heart owners behavior was and I watched in confusion because he tried calmly explaining to her that it was simply coincidence and she didn't seem to care. What was tacky was how she had no visual proof of her claim, only some he said-she said story, then started going off about prices of items in his store and on his website while shouting some type of action against his store. I could only wonder if she was there for more competitive or territorial reasons, but then I would be guilty of assumption as well. This behavior was all over an extremely popular $5-$15 toy sold at hundreds of other stores, which I see listed on Walmart and Amazon for $30-45. Many of the parents have had to drive around for weeks hunting for these things in preparation of the party, time was running out, and this other business owner kinda saved the day for us by making sure every kid (and some parents) at this party had a Needoh, or ones to gift, so everyone could have the same experience as the birthday girl. The picture I took at this party with one of the same Needoh styles this man purchased from Kids at Heart (and other stores too) kinda proves my point because they clearly ended up at a personal event, not in his store. After hearing this story and seeing proof to back it up, I was shocked by the owner of Kids At Heart and her behavior. I am not one to typically review retail stores and I was not asked to leave this review by anyone involved, but I certainly felt it needed to be done since the owner of Kids At Heart acted in such a hostile way towards another business that supported them. Overall, my experience this weekend combined with the above - I now choose to look elsewhere for children's gifts (and so will a handful of other parents).

Definitely more land-oriented and is mainstream brand oriented (Traxxas, Axial, Spektrum, Horizon, Lectron, E-Flite, etc...), but is a good place to get parts when you need for those brands. Good for general hobby gear. Connectors, tools, couple/few TX and RX options for land and air. Don't expect to find most brands you'll find at online retailers that pedal in the cheaper/more generic Chinese goods. TGY, HK, Orange and whatnot. Owner can come off a little rude when you first meet him, but he means well and will get you taken care of and is a wealth of information. We're all just people and I'm sure there are some he rubs the wrong way at first meet (me, included, but no lie he's a great guy I've found over time!) and some that he clicks with.

The owner, Zachariah, is a font of knowledge, with years of experience in the industry. Located in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood, Sewlarium is a bit of a drive for me, but I'm happy to support small businesses striving to serve their communities. This store is clean, well lighted, and surprisingly well-stocked for such a small footprint. I was able to find several yards of beautiful jersey material that I can't wait to make some shirts from. There is plenty of street parking in front of the business, and on the side street as well. If you're making a trek to visit this store from elsewhere in Portland like me, consider yourself in for a treat because there are some great restaurants and coffee shops in the area.
