I could spend all day here just browsing gear -- the selection is that massive. I've wanted a custom pair of True skates for years now, and I had to go somewhere I knew they'd get the process right. After doing some research, I found this place and decided to come up here all the way from Texas. Brandon was absolutely great to work with: Super friendly, knowledgeable, patient, thorough, and passionate about the game. The whole fitting and molding process was super smooth. After helping me with the skates, he helped me get fitted for a custom helmet and pick out some new gloves. I truly appreciated the top-notch, unsurpassed customer service. One of the best hockey shops I have ever been too! HANDS DOWN! This is not products but also service. I got my current skates here which are the Nexus Havok SMU skates that are made for Source for Sports. I went in wanting a high end pair pair in the $1000 range and after talking to the sales people they talked me into buying the $370 pair instead because that is what fit my need the most. I live in Seattle and I make special trips here just to get my skates sharpened every 2-3 months because I know the quality of work that they do on skates. I went in on Friday to get fitted for a pair of skates. Ryan did a wonderful job helping me pick just what I needed. He was patient, listened to my concerns, and asked questions to match me with the right pair. Wore them for a game last night and had zero issues! The Hockey Shop is a terrific place to get your gear. No, I don't play hockey, but I was with my husband everytime we visited. First of all, their service was great. The staff were knowledgable and will assist you in locating the items that you're looking for. Second of all, the prices were comparable to the lowest prices online. And lastly, they allow you to use their demo gear for 2 weeks before committing to buy. You do need to put a deposit down, but I don't know any other place that would let you do that. Really disappointed with the service here. My girlfriend came in to look for golf balls with the Canucks logo on them, seeing them a few months prior. When she was in souvenirs looking, an associate came up to her. When he asked if she needed help and she asked if they had any golf balls (meaning hockey branded souvenirs) he rudely responded "No, we're a hockey store" in a very condescending tone. When she explained exactly what she was looking for, he backtracked that they were sold out, but it was entirely uncalled for to speak to her in that way. Have been going to the hockey shop for 20+ years. I used to love going there on a Saturday with my dad to get our skates sharpened. While we waited I would cruise around the store trying everything on and dreaming for stuff I would ask Santa for Xmas. I think the store has a great ambiance and the staff which still has a few of the original employees I remember are friendly and knowledgeable. On the downside I miss the used skate section they used to have. For someone who, like me would grow at least a skate size every season as a youth it really helped with the parents wallet. To conclude I would love to thank the hockey shops staff for being friendly and professional throughout my years as a customer. Staff: nice guys that know their stuff. Also, they have enough staff to help you so you're never looking around to find someone. The shop itself would give the Nike store a run for it's money in terms of setup and design. Just a nice place to be in, even during the summer heat waves. Prices: they price match internet prices! Good game... For you goalies out there, they offer a pad demo program where you can use new demo pads for 2 weeks, then return them. At this point, you can get a full refund, try another pair of pads or buy new ones! I genuinely hope no one abuses this program because it's awesome. Yep, these guys definitely deserve the amazing rating they have on yelp. Great customer service. I walked straight to the helmets and stared at the selection and someone right away saw me and asked if I needed some help. I said I was interested in the Bauer 4500 helmet and cage combo and he tried that one on in 2 sizes and we proceeded to try on about 5 different helmets until we found one that was a perfect fit for me head shape. He put the cage on and adjusted the straps a bit. Also gave me a discount (as if I had purchased a combo). Also helped me get some gloves and two new sticks and butt ends installed on them. The prices are already as cheap or cheaper than anywhere else and then he gave me a bunch of discounts on everything at the till. Oh, and they are open until 9pm on Thursday and Friday. What can I say about The Hockey Shop? This store excels at a long forgotten part of running a business, dedicated customer service professionals. The store is a hockey player's dream. The prices are reasonable and with the current exchange rate, very reasonable. My 8year old daughter was recently at the Ice Classic Tournament it Richmond and we drove over to The Hockey Shop at the behest of a number of our hockey friends. All of them had mentioned the care, concern and exceptional customer service that this store provides. We were not disappointed. Connor, took care of us. It was a busy tournament weekend, and the store was slammed with customers. However, Connor took a full 90 minutes to set up a new helmet for my daughter. He tried multiple helmets until he found the one that fit and then spent a lot of time dialing in the cage. Great service! read more

Why would I drive all the way out to Surrey for my gear!? I was intrigued by their big Breakaway hockey sale. I could easily go to Sport Chek but I was curious to see their higher end gear and wanted to get fitted properly for new skates. I'm not bashing Sport chek and they're great for what they are but the skates I bought from them last year were too painful to wear for more than a few minutes. This was a major purchase for me, so I needed the expertise of someone who really knows hockey. Brandon was friendly, knowledgeable and patient with me. He took the time to measure my feet properly and I found out I've been wearing the incorrect size and width for years. I tried on 4 pairs of skates before deciding on their SMU Easton's. I spent a bit more than I wanted but they were on sale and they fit so nicely. Somehow, I picked a up a pair of new elbow pads, jersey and shorts and was way over budget but I ended up happy! The problems I had with the equipment have been resolved quickly. The regular prices are a bit higher here but if you're looking for a shop that carries gear with a higher level of protection and performance, this is the place to go! read more

I was in need of a new pair of skates that was the right size/width. My last pair of skates were too big and bought from sportchek... never again. Once i got to the shop, Mike A approached us and was super friendly from the get go. He measured my feet and also scanned them with the bauer machine. He explained how sizing worked and what size worked for me. I told him what my price range was and he let me try on a bunch of skates and even molded one pair just to see if it was the perfect size. After helping me for over an hour, i ended up leaving empty handed due to low inventory. I then checked to see if a different style was available online "3s pro" gave the shop a phone call and they held the pair for me. I came back and Mike A was there to help me out again and i ended up buying the pair after getting them molded and sharpened! Thanks Mike for not suggesting a pair that was out of my original price range, other hockey shops we've been to would normally push people out of their budget. Which makes things uncomfortable for some! We appreciate your patience and being such a helpful sales and not being so pushy at all! Keep killing it Mike! read more

This is our go-to Hockey heaven! You need it? They got it and staff to back it up with their incredible knowledge. So many players & goalies are poorly fitted if at all and these guys won't let you out of the store until your gear fits you right. The incredible time they spend with customers like your the only one that matters always blows my mind. My goalie has spent easily over an hour just trying pads without a blink from the sales person, who stays in attendance until you are satisfied. I also like the fact that these people are also players/goalies, so they know it firsthand. Totally worth the 6hr drive each time from Oregon and we send in the rest of the team over the season. This is THE place to buy hockey related goods, and by far the best place if you ask me. I didn't know they moved to a new location, but it's beautiful. They fixed up my helmet no questions asked, I was missing a clip for a cage helmet. Gave me clips free of charge, shorted my stick, no questions, asked, just asked me were I wanted cut. No sales pressure staff. I even made one guy who was busy fixing up goalie gear come show me were is a specific item. top notch service. Price range... well.... hockey is not cheap sport.....lets put it that way.......no doubt.... but what sets them apart from their main competitors across the lower mainland I think is their service and their selection. read more

I get my skates sharpened from them and they always do a great job. I have gotten my sites fixed plenty of times from them. Unless it really busy they are always ready to help. I have found them to be very knowledgeable. If they dont know then they get who does. Some items are a little expensive but I mainly go there for skate sharpening. read more

After going to a couple other hockey shops locally, and trying the usual Sport Chek and Sport Mart fare, I was blown away to see how clean, well organized, and amazing this store was. Everything recent was in stock, in pretty much any size, organized properly on the shelves where you could try it on. The staff there were amazing and put up with my trying on almost every elbow pad and set of pants in the store over the course of two hours and answering all my questions. You can really tell the staff love what they do, and i was very pleased to drop ~$500 on a new set of gear there. For all the gorgeous merchandising and helpful staff, you'd think the prices would be high, but even their everyday regular 'MSRP' prices are lower than Sport Chek's, and their sale/clearance prices are fantastic. read more

Was in there today stood in front of the skates wall for 20 minutes as there was (heavier set) guy that free and walked past me couple times no acknowledgment and only after began baking someone's skates after they had to go to the cashier to ask for help. When my wife went up to a guy his answer was "we only have one person to fit skates!" I was hoping to hear something more along the lines let me see if I could help you even though this is not my area of expertise. I been playing hockey for ever and just needed to see how the easton Mako fit. Hey shop owners if your reading you know exactly the skates I am talking about as it's the only easton there you loss that business and any other going forward and I hope people will think twice about shopping here. read more

We were here in August when the shop was in its temporary space. I drove up from the Seattle area with three teenage boys desperate to get set up for the upcoming hockey season. Apparently, we weren't the only ones in this boat. The shop was really busy, and with all the people who needed help getting fitted for stuff and all the stuff we needed to buy, by closing time, we'd only gotten partially through our long list of stuff. The store staff was incredibly patient with us. Eventually, the shift manager sent his staff home, but stayed a good 2.5 hours after closing time to get us all kitted up properly (helmets - he talked us out of poor choice helmets, gloves, skates, pants, sticks). Neither he or anybody on his staff made us feel anything but welcome to try on things and ask questions. They made us feel like they genuinely cared about each of the boys getting the right skates. We were back today with two younger boys and again had a really great experience with getting fitted for skates and pants. This shop truly has the best staff around -- knowledgeable, friendly, personable. read more

This year we made a bi-annual trips to the Hockey Shop from Olympia, WA during goalie camp in Langley or Blues vs. Canucks games. Amazing place and anything you need for hockey is located here whether regardless whether you are a skater or tough goalie while at prices comparable or even cheaper than local prices. Want to buy your gear on line....how do you know it fits? The Hockey Shop will have you knowing it will fit! Knowledgeable staff is a added plus. For us, we have two goalies and needed gear not available in Washington state. We found gear that was fitted with some measure of growth by their expert staff. Final sales is not their goal but customer satisfaction! For the record, my two, knucklehead kids who play goalies, walked around the store for half hour in their goalie jock strap to make sure both of them fit. Thanks to the Shop, we are safe for one or maybe two seasons for gear bought at the Hockey Shop. Totally recommend! Only a few hours from Seattle or three from Olympia. Border crossing is a minus, and can be a pain in the ass. Suggestion, if you are traveling with only one parent , bring a letter allowing you to do so, or bring both of parents and eat down the street at the Italian pizza place, can't name the place but brought me back to my time spent in Italy....well worth it! We will continue to shop at the Hockey Shop for as long as we live in Washington. read more

Great selection, but even better customer service. My son's almost brand new MX3 skates broke, however we live in Japan, so I thought we were going to be out of luck, and would have to deal with Bauer in Japan, which was going to be a nightmare of epic proportions. I phoned in and spoke to Darryl, however, and he arranged to get a new pair out to me asap as my son had a tournament coming up, and handled the old pair on warranty after I shipped them back. We come back to Canada several times a year and we always go to the Hockey Shop, as they are the best hockey shop in the Lower Mainland, however there are other choices.
