My husband, dog, and I stayed at The Hohnstead in the Stargazer Cabin over Memorial Day weekend and had such an incredible experience that I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We ended up having the whole compound to ourselves, which gave us the chance to explore all five cabins and appreciate each one's unique charm and little perks. The Ranchhand is probably the most spacious cabin on the property. It's fully insulated, has the cutest fresh lemon vibe, and an amazing view of the snow-capped mountains. The Blind has the funniest ironic name because it honestly may have the clearest mountain view of all the cabins! One side even lifts up so you can lay in bed and stargaze at night. Since it has two twin beds, it would be perfect for friends or siblings traveling together. I will say the walk to this cabin is the steepest grade but not overly challenging. The A-Frame sits the highest on the compound and has another great mountain view. The Shed is attached to the common area, so it has electricity, WiFi, and even a little fridge. It's usually reserved when the whole compound is rented out since it's also attached to the owners dwelling. We stayed in the Stargazer Cabin and the view from our porch was absolutely beautiful. The little picnic area and hammocks were so peaceful and comfortable. On our first night, we watched a deer grazing maybe 20 yards away from our porch. It was such a calm, relaxing experience. The common areas were also fantastic. The hot tub ended up being my favorite spot, perfect size for two adults after a long day. The shower beforehand uses creek water, so it was definitely icy cold for me at first (I'm someone who loves scalding hot showers), but my husband thought it was refreshing and is probably going to start putting cold showers into his daily routine. By the second shower I was already getting used to it, and honestly I could see it being amazing during the summer months. The common kitchen had everything we needed, plus designated fridge shelves and dry storage bins so you don't have to worry about pests in your cabin. We brought a Yeti cooler with us, but after making a Costco run before heading back to Great Falls, having that extra storage space was super convenient. But the absolute best part of this experience was Garrett and Alla. They were beyond welcoming and genuinely cared about making sure we had everything we needed. They even offered homemade kombucha, mint tea, and sour beers! I grabbed some tea for the road because it smelled incredible. As very obvious city people trying out glamping, we never once felt judged or uncomfortable. They made the entire experience feel warm, relaxed, and inviting. This was 100% our type of camping, and we already can't wait to come back. Thank you both for opening up your beautiful space to guests , it truly felt special. read more

Specialties
The Hohnstead is a peaceful and remote resort near Missoula, Montana geared towards nature-loving travelers looking to slow down, reconnect to nature and recharge.
History
Established in 2017.
Imagine having a piece of beautiful Montana property among the peaceful forest and stunning mountains. Now, imagine the realization that there are no roads, buildings, electricity, running water or septic. Toss in the mix a couple with not construction experience, no money and very little time (3 months at a time from their full time jobs abroad to do any work on the property). Fast forward a couple of years, a lot of hard work, sweat and perseverance, Garrett and Alla (with the help of mom and dad) built The Hohnstead - a seasonal resort with 5 units, having hosted over 450 short term rental guests AND have quit their jobs abroad in order to grow and develop The Hohnstead into "the piece of Montana heaven" guests have grown to love!
Meet the Business Owner: Garrett and Alla H.
Hey! We're Garrett and Alla Hohn and we're excited to host you at the Hohnstead! When we're not designing the next Scavenger Hunt for our guests, sharing stories by the campfire, or hanging out in the hot tub, Garrett loves to brew beer, play hockey, "torment" our Yorkshire Terrier Slonik, while Alla loves to do yoga, drink and make Kombucha, take photos and make videos for The Hohnstead. Our self-built The Hohnstead resort is located on 100 acres of pristine Montana forest, 2 miles from The Blackfoot River (of the "River Runs Through It" fame, and 25 minutes from Missoula (Top 100 best places to live). We love sharing this unique property and place with new people and offering them a place to slow down, renew and recharge!
