The home despots are as they are. They are often the only big box home store around, they are the closest to me and so I go. I know that when I go I am on my own. Now that I have abandoned my expectations of anyone wanting to interact with me, I am no longer disappointed. The only person who usually ever says anything to me at this or any home depot is the cashier. This is not the case outside of the Chicago area, but at home depots in or near the city proper, customer service is a rare and unanticipated occurrence. It is sad, but if you go in there thinking someone is going to help you, or going to want to help you, you will generally walk away disappointed. read more

I like this location, but my problem with it is I am always having to search for an associate for help. This usually means I better have on my sneakers, because I will have to walk all over the store, looking for someone in a red apron. Fortunately, when I do find someone who works there (he/she is usually helping two to three other people!), he/she is always pleasant and will not just direct me to the correct aisle, but will personally escort me to the aisle I need. I do however, make it a point to go online first to make sure that this location has what I need before actually going to the location to purchase it. read more

So went to Home Depot on thur, got some new plants. Got home and noiced white fuzzy stuff under leaves. On two plants one jade tree and one with big green leaves. Not sure of name, this what they call the white fuzzy. Mealybugs Toke them back to store let the cashier, works in gardening and store mgr know. When i was looking thur to see if their were any without bugs , many where infested. These are very hard to get rid of, they will spread quickly to other plants and take over. So check your plants good before taking home. To find out about Mealybugs look it up, to see care! Also they always have dried out plants, they never seem to water there plants. Just letting people know about bugs, believe me it bad when you get them, i had to get rid of 8 plant's that were just to infested and care for a couple more to and save them. read more

Just had the best experience with two associates. After talking to several employees, they kept passing me off because they didnt know where the item was. Talia went above and beyond to locate the ac I wanted to purchase. It was on top of the fixture so she had to use the lift to get it down. Matt was spotting her and was very helpful as well. It only gets t two stars because Tom figured out how to help me I came in today because I wanted to figure out how to stain my record player. I waited in line with other people who are trying to get paint and when it was my turn I told the guy what I was trying to do it showed him a picture of the player. he showed me the pick one he didn't tell me what size I needed what brand was best or which one would match that was the whole purpose I went to Home Depot. I had to go to customer service and wait for somebody else to come and help me who did his name was Tom and he was helpful. Went to buy plumbing supplies. Asked for help finding the right product to fit two pipes mismatched pipes together. Plumbing associate kept saying my drain couldn't fit in my sink (it does). Kept asking how it fits (didn't matter, my issue was connecting my drain to the pipes). Went around in circles about the sink for him to say nothing could be done about the pipes (fine). He left and I moved onto purchase my second item, an extended faucet hose. While there, me and another customer started chatting about the pipe in my hand. He picked it up insisting there was a solution to my problem. Shortly after, the employee came back to the aisle. Seeing the pipe in the other customer's hand, he yelled down the aisle to me, "OH SO MY TWENTY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WASNT ENOUGH FOR YOU?!" So unprofessional. Cant help but wonder if he would've behaved the same way if I was a man or came in with my husband. By the way, I got home and successfully secured the pipes after doing some googling. I think store location is probably one of the best ones around the Chicagoland area. My only issue is the online ordering system. Anything that's in stock should be ready within 2 hours. After my last experience I'm thinking either don't pre order or give the store at least 4-6 hours to have your order ready. read more

We had a good experience redoing our kitchen counters, so when the fridge went, we went back to Broadview and Christine last June. She was her very helpful self, made sure we had all the extras and the ComEd rebate info. THEN the delivery happened. It was awful. Home Depot needs to take ownership of hiring crappy personnel. This is the reason why this review is so late. I had months of wrangling to get the damage done to my home reimbursed. Looking on line at the reviews of the delivery company, made me realize that I was one of the lucky ones in that the fridge wasn't damaged during the process. This is a pretty good Home Depot. The aisles are well-laid out and I've never failed to find what I'm looking for here. As with other HD locations, floor staff can be difficult to approach, as they are often monopolized by the sorts of people who like to monopolize staff at any hardware store. But once you find someone free, they are always helpful. Bonus points to the staff manning the registers, who always greet us with a smile. read more

Maybe this Home Depot has upped its customer service game because we were looking at spark plugs for no more than 15 seconds before an associate stopped by to help us find what we needed. He was knowledgeable about what ones would work with different types of lawn mower models, which helped us get the right piece. We also found a good deal on laundry detergent. The self check out lanes were all in good, functioning order, but I got a little thrown off by the camera/screen that's on you. You're recorded while you check out and the recording is shown right on a little screen in front of you as well! It threw me off... Otherwise a successful Home Depot trip! Love Home Depot but I will never use Roadie if I can help it. I placed a small order from Home Depot for 5 drawer handles, 2 orange pumice cleaners, 1 laundry Detergent, and 1 pack of dryer sheets. Roadie was to deliver my items, didn't like HomeDepot wasn't delivering themselves since Home Depot is 5 minutes from my house. When the delivery left the store my husband and I waited outside for "Elizabeth O. in her Large Red SUV". The delivery never came. I called the store, spoke to Cam the Operations Manager, and told them them that I suspect the delivery driver stole my items. Roadie claimed it was delivered but the delivery photo was of my items still in Elizabeth's car and not on my porch. I also had security footage that proved she never delivered my items to the porch as she claimed. Cam was adamant that Roadie was not following protocol and Elizabeth continued to lie about the delivery. Because of Cam's of being on the phone with Roadie for over 20 minutes and not backing down...the horrible delivery driver magically reappeared to bring me my items that she was trying to steal. On my security camera you can see her racing down my block, then running to my porch to drop off the items so she could get away before I could confront her. If it wasn't for Cam's sincere effort at the Broadview Illinois Home Depot, this horrible person Elizabeth would have kept my items. My security camera was the icing on the cake that proved she is a liar. Beware of Roadie and never let Elizabeth O touch your items because you won't get them. Yes, I am reviewing home depot. Because I am a sad person that is now a home owner. As such, I spend many saturdays and weekend evenings making unscheduled visits to this home depot for some home repair item that I forgot. Similar to most other home stores, this place is a giant warehouse of every this-that-and-the-other that you may need for home improvement. Pricing is consistent with everywhere else. Have so far found everything that I need. Most of the time it is difficult to find someone to help you if you have questions. Although I will admit that I have gotten surprisingly good service in the paint section. Good place that I go to often even if I really don't want to. read more

It is crazy how much your life changes after you buy a house. I now feel like I live at the HD and I am happy to have this one close to my house. I'm always in awe at the nursery and can spend hours there walking around and checking out new flowers and plants. This HD is always well stocked and there are always employees around to help answer questions. I will be visiting this HD many times in the future to spruce up our home. read more

Service above and beyond. There is this employee in plumbing... Billy, whom I somehow have managed to bump into twice while looking for items that are supposed to be in stock but aren't on the rack. He has been very helpful, helping to get items from the top shelves or getting someone else who can help. Makes me feel like he takes his job seriously and enjoys helping people. Another guy, Sean from the flooring deptmt. Was also very helpful until we got the rods we needed. Overall, helpful staff that make me feel welcome in this store. Ordered $2000 worth of honeycomb blinds that took 2 months to arrive (we were told at the time it would take only 7 to 10 days) and came all wrong from the factory. Home Depot said that the blinds were my responsibility, despite my very precise instructions as to what colors we wanted and the blackout options for them. Would not allow us to exchange them for the correct blinds, not even for a restocking fee, essentially telling us it was our responsibility. Management made absolutely no effort to try to meet us halfway, to assist us in this situation, and we were rudely left out in the cold. We are remodeling our home and planned to spend thousands of dollars on tiles, lumber, hardwood flooring, and roof shingles. I guess we will spend our money at Lowes or Menards. read more

We ordered doors through our local home depot in Broadview, IL (Broadview #190) in December and it's one of the worst decisions we could have made. It's now 6 months later and we're still missing a door in our basement. The first door they measured incorrectly and placed the handle 8in below the standard height. They reordered the door for us at our cost and though we were frustrated we decided it was worth it to just pay the money and be done with it. The second and third door they ordered us didn't align with the existing hinges because the incompetent team at Home Depot does not know anything about doors or how to properly order them. Now we are waiting on our fourth door which they finally decided they should just order the whole door and frame so they don't mess it up again. It was supposed to be rushed and we've waited over a month for it - we're now told it's been delayed. We've spent over $250 on a single door, which we should not be paying for at all at this point, not to mention the cost of having a contractor pick each door up and determine that it cannot be installed. There has been no apology or offers to refund us any of this money to make things right. I'm 8 months pregnant at this point and I expect we'll have a new child before we ever see this door properly installed. We spent thousands of dollars at Home Depot and still have future renovations we planned on working on, however it's unlikely we'll be spending our money here in the future. They do not care about their customers and it's clear because no one has offered to make this right. read more

I phoned during regular business hours, and not at lunch time. Phone rang for just under 8 minutes before somebody finally answered. They transferred my call but nobody picked up. At 10 minutes the phone just disconnected. (Phone companies don't let a call just ring forever.) I called again and didn't have to wait as long, but it is SO annoying to have to listen to a commercial by the person picking up the phone before she will take your call and let you talk. You know the annoying drill and how it's rattled off in a rote monotone: "Thanks for calling the only decent store that ever existed, we can supply your every need... appendicitis, anyone?... and since you've no doubt never heard of the internet and wouldn't have a clue to look us up on the web, let me tell you all about that, before I list a bunch of things you can buy at our store which might give you a clue since you've had to wait so long you probably forgot what you called for by now.... and how may I direct your call so that you can wait on hold for a long time again?" read more

I tried to buy insulation here on a Monday evening. By the time things were ordered (etc), it was after 8PM and I was going to be charged $69 instead of $19.95 for their truck. So, it became cheaper to have them deliver it. I arranged for delivery on Wednesday afternoon. However, they tried to deliver it on Wednesday morning. They called my office to let me know (but I hadn't gotten there yet). I called back when I got to the office and learned since I had missed my delivery slot in the AM (which was supposed to be in the afternoon), I couldn't get it delivered until the next day. Had they tried to deliver it when they were supposed to, there wouldn't have been a problem. Since they messed up on the time (and went ahead with a delivery attempt even though they didn't reach me), I didn't get the materials for a project that should have been done on a day when my wife was out. I'll never hear the end of her frustration tomorrow (if, in fact, Home Depot does deliver the goods). In short, if there's a way to screw it up, Home Depot will. read more

I stayed home three different days (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday) to wait for a delivery of a washer and dryer and still don't have the washer or dryer. I have out of town guests here and no way to help them do their laundry. I have made 6 phone calls (20-30 minutes each) and my assistant just spent 40 minutes on the phone trying to re-schedule. My wife has been going to this location for a while because she likes the store and she knows the layout. However, we have been doing quite a bit of work on 2 houses this year (selling one and buying another) And every time she goes to the paint department the guy won't sell her what she wants. First time, he wouldn't make her a quart of what she wanted. He bitched and moaned that she should at least buy a gallon. So she did. I was livid. I made her return it. Screw that guy. Make the quart I asked for. Then the second time she decided to ask for a gallon of paint for the new house and he went round and round asking her if she wanted a sample size. Wasted 20 minutes.This paint department just doesn't like to sell you what you ask for. Screw them. I told her start going to Menards cuz they don't bitch about what you want. By the time I made it to home depot I was already tired. I come to this home depot ALL THE TIME so this is why I can't understand why today was such a horrible day to have visited home depot in the Broadview Village Square in Broadview, IL. I went to get some lawn bags and batteries. I wanted some Duracell Ultra Power batteries b/c I had a coupon. So, I went to the battery section where I saw all the batteries and only 2 of the packs I wanted but someone had opened them. I couldn't find anyone to help me on the floor so I went to a check counter and asked if I could get assistance at the battery center and I went back over to the battery center and waited, and waited..., and waited..., and waited..., and waited..., and waited some more. No one ever came to assist-so I just ended up walking out and leaving the rest of the stuff in my cart sitting there. i was having some appliances delivered on june 18, 2010 to my home and something important came up at work, so i had to call to cancel the delivery thursday evening, june 17, 2010 at 7:50 pm - big mistake. i called and first ringer, rung and rung, next someone picked up the phone and left it off the hook so i could hear everyone in the background speaking and doing their business - how rude can you be. let me just say, menards is always cheaper and its just 10 minutes away i am going to write a letter to corporate hq about this incident because it smells of a person or group of employees that do not understand customer service - managers should not allow this type of bs to happen especially considering how many americans are looking for jobs during this recession. i am surprised by the lack of attention to detail because when i bought the appliances the people were so pleasant. the appliance dept svcs mgr (greg) and he was beyond reproach (greg is the man) and the store mgr (at the time of purchase was mgr cory) was a very nice gentleman - what happened. my recommendation - black people need to support customer service just as much as anyone else (i am black) - also, home depot may want to put together a better benefits package for employees so that you do not get the bottom of the barrel type employees you seem to currently have in certain areas - i hope you resolve this issue for my own benefit. read more
