I am very disappointed in Home Depot. I drove 45 min to the Festus, Mo location (the closest store to me) yesterday to rent a mini excavator. I was told I would need a credit card for deposit and a 1/2 ton truck to pull the trailer. After swiping my card and taking my money, the associate walks outside, sees my truck, and tells me that he cannot let me take the equipment because I am driving a 2015 Chevy Colorado Crew cab 4wd 6ft bed. He knows nothing about my vehicle's towing capabilities and doesn't bother to look. He said that this was a policy handed down from corporate headquarters. The specs on my vehicle show that it is more than capable of towing this piece of equipment.
So, I drive 45 min back home to borrow a friend's 1994 Chevy truck, which has about the same towing capabilities and a lot less stopping power than my Colorado. Another 45 min back to the store to pick up the equipment that I rented 1 1/2 hrs ago...clock is ticking. Now I have 2 choices, I can keep my original rental time and eat the hours I've had to waste OR I can have them refund my card (which can take 7 days to get my money back) and have them swipe my card a second time, take more money, and get a new start time on the rental.
I was not happy with the way the employee handled the situation. He should have specifically asked what type of vehicle I was driving before he swiped my card. There is nothing on their website that states that they will not rent equipment if you drive a Colorado.
I am extremely displeased with Home Depot Corporate if, in fact, this is your policy. You need to update your policy to include 2015-newer Chevy Colorado and other similar mid-size trucks. Do not discriminate against mid-size trucks that are more than capable of towing this equipment! read more
