We got our floors done by Home Depot last year, I believe in February. The team they sent did a great job on the LVP, but they cut the carpet on our stairs terribly when putting the transition lip over the LVP to carpet. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now having a baby, this has become a big safety hazard as he wants to pull the carpet and stick his fingers in this area. Unfortunately, looks like we'll be having to replace our carpet now and hope the team who puts it in can do a better job with the transition. :/ read more

Clean store and lots of things to choose from but if you want to get help you have to probably walk through the whole place to find somebody. It's usually empty but there's just nobody ever available to help. At least that's been my experience. read more

I had been in this store far too many times. The store was average for a big box hardware store. The customer service was the same. Well I went in a few weeks ago and walked up and down the aisles for over ten minutes seeking assistance and with no success. I did let them know at CS as I was leaving to go to Menards across the street. Well this past weekend I went back in to get more items and had such a hard time getting help AGAIN. I finally asked for a manager and I met Venus. Well this woman changed my whole outlook on personal customer care! After I explained what I needed and my previous experience she rolled up her sleeves and jumped right in to help me. She even helped me cut material for me!!!! It was Venus, Sam and Miguel who had me appreciating the customer service at this Fox Lake home depot! They over staff during the day to assist the contractors who come in, which are professionals and don't need the kind of assistance as the DIY people that come in after working hours and weekends. Home Depot maybe you can fix that. Please note the 5 star is for the amazing customer service I received from these three individuals !! Store in Volo, IL is horrible. Was there yesterday and had a cart with about $1000 worth of lumber, tools, etc. not a single register open. Tried to check out in the contractors area and no one was there. Asked they they told me to take it down to self checkout. Pushed the heavy cart all the way down there to find 3 employees standing around doing nothing. Started checking out, not one of them asked if they could help or anything. Rang a few items and then decided, they clearly do not have any customer service so they do not deserve my business. Stopped checking out, left the cart with $1000 worth of stuff. I took my business elsewhere. I do not recommend the Volo, IL store. read more

Over the years, I have found Home Depot to be a superior store over the competitors. The employees are generally more knowledgeable and more helpful. By helpful I even mean simply walking up to you and saying hello, or try to help you find something. I can't tell you how many times I've been to Menards, (not necessarily the one across the street from this location...*cough Antioch cough*) and I could walk through any department, and not a single person on the floor would say hello, other than the customer service desk at the entrance. This store does free activities for kids. I believe it's the first Saturday of the month, but I'm not sure on that. They give the kids Home Depot aprons, like the employees have, activity pins every time they complete something, and they get to make and take something home for free. The only reason I don't give this store 5 stars is because, on my recent trip, a certain employee, that I believe really should have known better, directed me to cheap, polypropylene straps to use as furniture anchors for my kids. I didn't realize how weak the stuff was until I got home, so it's my fault too. It was only $2 so I don't care about returning it, but I still need anchor straps. Parents, don't use plastic for furniture anchors. Get the nylon kind. The money you save on a plastic-type isn't worth the risk. You'll only spend ~$20. read more

This review is for the home Depot in volo Illinois off of route 12. Worst experience ever. I purchased a washer and dryer for $2,000 and was told it would be delivered on Saturday the 6th. I'm in desperate need of the washer and dryer which is the reason that I decided to go with them. They called me the day before and the message was distorted and all I heard was 1pm. I had my alarm set for 11:00 a.m. as I work nights and took the day off specifically to be home for the delivery. Woke up to use the bathroom at around 9:58 a.m. and found out that they had tried to call me at 5 minutes to 8:00 To let me know they were outside in the driveway and they refused to come back and deliver it today. Now I have to wait an additional 10 days. seriously thinking about canceling and going with Best buy who could be here 5 days earlier but would lose money. Do not order from home Depot for appliances unless you're going to pick it up yourself. spoke with five people and there's nothing they can do and it's a horrible experience and I do not wish it for anyone. I will never order appliances from home Depot ever again for this very reason. read more

In June of 2019, I chose to have this Home Depot install new flooring in my entire house. Initially the measurement showed that our old floor needed to be taken up so the new floor could be installed. The old floor was hand scraped wood, so it was wavy to begin with, and clearly hadn't been installed correctly as there were large gaps and loose boards all over. At the day of the installation, our installers noted that because of a difference in thickness between the old floor and the new floor, there would be gaps in our baseboards and door jambs if we didn't raise the level of the floor with new underlayment. The Home Depot manager of this store refused to acknowledge the mistake and was rude and disrespectful to me, and threatened to cancel the entire job instead of offering to do something to make up for the mistake. Unfortunately for me, I didn't let the job get canceled. However, the manager and the installation company, Superior, decided to skim coat the old wood floor that was supposed to be taken up. I was promised by the manager of this Home Depot that the skim coat would solve all of the issues with the existing floor, and that then they could install the new floor right on top. After installation was complete, I immediately noticed that there were odd noises, squeaks, deflections, and popping sounds coming from the new floor. I know they are not normal because the second floor of my home has the same floor installed, but it was installed on the floorboards. read more

After deciding to completely renovate our kitchen, living and dining room we chose to replace our front entry and storm door. After finding the doors we wanted (about $1400 not including installation) we sat down with the Home Depot (Volo Illinois off Hartigan) salesman and scheduled for their service company (RSI) to come out to take measurements. We were also assured that "Anthony" was the best in the business. After a few days Anthony called and left a message to call him back. My girlfriend called and was told "he was driving and would call her back". No call that day. She called and left a message the next day. No call back. The next evening she called Home Depot and talked to a manager, Kevin. He was very apologetic and assured her he would take care of this. Nothing. Today, we went back to Home Depot and cancelled everything and got a refund for the measurements. We will no longer be using The Home Depot for ANY service work or special orders. read more

Came into this location looking to buy a washer/ dryer for a weekend holiday sale. We were in later on Sunday night, so because it was later we weren't sure if we were really going to "pull the trigger". We ended up talking to Kevin and Ray. I don't know why people have given this place a low rating. This place has been very good to me as far as being a new homeowner in this area. I've been to this place multiple times and have been helped by some really nice folks. Today I went in to buy a dehumidifier because it was recommended by the home inspector to get one for the basement. I went in and was helped and was given recommendations on which one to buy. Also I was told that Home Depot gives military discount on purchases in the store which was a plus. After talking to the two employees (forgot their names) for sometime about different things to fix around the home, I left feeling good about my purchase today. Although they told me Menards across the street offers a small increase of a military discount, I'll keep my business here for the customer service. read more

Poor customer service. We ordered laminate hard wood flooring and it was not delivered by the promised date. Half the boxes were damaged, and this messed up our contractors whole schedule. I was very disappointed with their lack of communication and how they handled our order. Would strongly recommend going across the street to Menards where they have friendly and helpful people and all together better pricing. read more

Staff is always helpful, take you to exactly what you're looking for, and often give you tips & ideas. Sometimes I will literally just go in for ideas. I needed a faucet handle adapter for a faucet that was purchased at HD. I entered the plumbing aisle and started looking around. 2 guys in orange aprons were talking to each other at the other end of aisle. They looked down the aisle at me at turned around and started walking the other way. I called out to them, they stopped in their tracks and just looked at me, didn't approach me, so I had to walk the length of the aisle to them. Showed them my part I need and they just said, we don't have that. No research, no looking, no nothing. Again, the faucet was bought at HD. Went over to Menards where the guy spent several minutes with me even tho they were much busier that HD. No wonder the HD lot here is always 85% empty and Menards is packed. read more

The main pump died on my Basement Watchdog dual sump pump. So I purchased the replacement pump here the factory recommend. However the relieve valve does not come with the replacement pump. The factory guy said relieve valve should easily be removed from the old pump, boy was he wrong. I went back to get a replacement relieve valve but they were only available from the factory, so they attempted to help gerry rig a generic one, but that was not going to work. So one of senior employees getting ready to leave for night stepped in to help. In the end he approved my buying a new dual back Basement Watchdog pump and returning the old out of warranty dual system for full credit. It does not get better then that for customer service and keeping a customer very happy. Kudos to this Home Depot. Oh yes, they took back the replacement main pump too. read more

Purchased $4K in wood laminate with installations. The measurements were inaccurate, had missing pieces. Coordination with measurement, shipping, delivery, and install is a joke, there is no central flooring coordinator for the order. No notification of delivery or install date, had to call over and over to confirm dates. Installers did nice job of installing, except for never returning calls or finishing the missing transition pieces. Finished it myself and disputed part of the labor cost charges. I would be hesitant to use HD for flooring install in the future. read more

Worst store ever!!! Cheats their Veterans. Not only do they cheat you on the Free carpet installation,they also refuse to do anything when they screw up the install. You should look into Home Depot's Free Carpet Installation. Its not free they cheat their customers to recover the cost of the install. Here is how it works. You have to purchase Carpet of at least $1.00 sqft and their padding which they always make you take the more expensive one saying the carpet will not last as long if you use the cheaper one. Once you have chosen They come out to measure. They increase the square footage of the carpet you need by at least 40% stating that it is for a safety factor in the measurements and for the orientation of the carpet. That is an extreme amount of extra square ft just to orient the carpet in the same direction. they also order the same amount of pad which is not required since pad does not have to be oriented the same way. That excess amount of carpet only would be required in extreme cases only if the carpet had a certain pattern that did not repeat often. Most carpet has no patterns or a repeating pattern about every inch or so. So for an average bedroom about 150sqft with carpet $1 and pad 0.50 per sqft it should cost $225 but they will charge $315 thats an additional $90. Just on a small bedroom thats 0.60 cents a square ft for install or $5.40/sq yard the average installer charges about $2.50 a yard to install so you can see they have a little room to negotiate the price if you complain, and they still get paid for installation. As for the install, I was left with holes on every corner with carpet scraps stuffed in to cover them up. they also stapled pieces on the edge of the stairs where it is easily seen and staples sticking out. The worst is when they did the doorways. They cut passed the doorways and into the room where the hall carpet can be seen in the bedroom when the door is closed. After waiting a month to get it installed, and multiple trips and calls to the store. I was told they didnt have the authority to do anything. I had to file a complaint with the installer and call corporate to get a decision. They only decided to replace the damage and give me what I paid for nothing else. I still have to wait at least a month to get it repaired. They just don't care about their customers just the money. GO SOME WHERE ELSE you'll get a better price and a better job. read more

I haven't been to a better big box hardware store than this Home Depot. They employees at the entrance asking you if you need help. It's easy to get help and there are knowledgeable employees in every department. All of the advice I have received has been accurate and the materials are of high quality. The manager of the store even wrapped my Christmas tree and helped me load it into my car. The plant material is of high quality and some of it comes with a 1 year warranty. If it dies within a year you can bring back the dead material with your receipt and get a refund. read more

Terrible customer service..sent me to another HD store for item computer shows they have 4 of. Other store (mchenry) couldn't find item (BBQ grill) either. I went back and associate claims they do have 4 but she thinks they are missing parts/damaged and if I wanted to pay for one today their assembler (who only works Wednesdays) will "try to put one together wed and see how bad it is" or I can take one of these damaged grills home and assemble myself (at full price). Customer service.....what a joke!!!! read more
