Friday afternoon around 4PM, me and my team had to get a last minute appliance order. The sale would have been a minimum of 1500 and I came across the rudest young female working in appliance kitchen design area. We only asked if she could get us some help with an immediate need for a stove and D/W. She was not with a customer, only working on her computer but she has the worst customer experience I have had in this location to date. My company spends allot at this location and I will be switching where I allow my technicians to go. This place needs to change this individual or get her training, she clearly dislikes her job and that just cost Home Depot several thousands a month in business. Never really been a Menards fan but they have just won our business. Tired of horrible service from this location. read more

Made an appointment online for a consultation about countertops. Prepared - had all measurements and narrowed down to a couple potential counter types. Appointment with "Kandyce H". Was excited and hoped to get the job scheduled. About 30 seconds in I almost got up and left. I had to verbally jump in and interrupt her because she was so rude. If I didn't answer the question to her "liking" (she was extremely condescending with her knowledge vs. mine). It's almost like she was pissed off at life and didn't have any more sick days and had to come in and I was customer interaction #1 (0900 apt). She didn't even backpedal, apologize , anything. Completely rude and doesn't care. I got the quote , took a couple samples and left. She didn't care. I planned on booking that day (job was over $10k), she just immediately got on the phone and started yelling at someone. To top it off ....she left me a voicemail today inquiring if I was still interested. How can you be so clueless ? This woman should not be facing customers or even talking....work on the back dock or something. She soured me. I won't be back. Lifelong HD customer / CC , everything. She undid all that in 15 minutes. read more

I visited the Lawn and Garden section of the East side store yesterday and as I was paying for my order , I asked for help putting the 5 bags of soil into my car. The front line staff laughed at my question. They looked at each other at laughed when a customer asked for assistance. Another shopper mentioned there was assistance in the parking lot to help with loading. The store employees were unaware of this option . Customer service training must not reach seasonal staff. read more

She does everything with a smile and just made everything so easy and was able to provide us with such a positive experience. We purchased a Weber grill online at HD for a house warming gift.........what a disaster!! We are still waiting for its wonderful 3rd party company to come assemble it at our house. it has been 3 weeks! This company is obviously too busy... They need to go out of business! ..called their customer service and got jerked around for 3 hours by a bunch of lightweights. no resolution it will be returned within a week. I returned (don't ask me why), and I found the same lack of help. There were a couple employees walking around looking busy, but customers remained unassisted. I needed blinds again, but they had to be customer cut in the store. Well, no one was able to help me. After learning my lesson last time, I didn't stick around long waiting for someone to address my concerns. I left and went to a local competitor that actually has employees stationed in area and actually approach customers. I got my blinds (same price) and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Home Depot, I will NEVER return to your store for anything, ever again. I'm just not impressed with your business model. Just like other big box stores, you must figure that by decreasing the number of employees in your store, you can remain competitive by decreasing overhead? What a bad idea. No store employees wear masks. No social distancing at all. Complete disregard for safety procedures. I know the pandemic has become a political thing but I'm not sure why being careful and thoughtful about other people's well-being isn't being practiced. I asked the manager about why associates weren't wearing masks and he said their is no law requiring them to do so. I said Home Depot and other stores regularly make employees wear store uniforms etc so I wasn't sure why a law would be necessary. Unfortunately I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Went in to finish up my carpet purchase. It was painless until it came time to Check out. I was brought up front to finish the Check out and handed over to someone else to complete the process. All-in-all it was about a 2 hr job from When I walked in to order to When I Walked back Out. Originally we were told that the install dates were about 2 weeks out and someone would be calling me for an install date. Two weeks later I called to check on an install date and was told my order had been cancelled. WHAT?!! Turns out that the different carpet ordered for a porch was canceled in error. They did offer 50% discount on the porch carpet which was a small room and Consisted of a price about $50 less. install date was 4 weeks from the order date. I received a phone call one day for The house carpet and received a call the next day for a different install date for the porch carpet. I asked them to please install all the Carpet on The same day. Installation day arrives and I received a call telling me they were loading up now and would arrive in 15-20 minutes which turned into about an hour later. Maybe they stopped off for breakfast? read more

I came to pick up my chandelier that I ordered online way earlier than I was supposed to , it was received ,but not available to pick up .Matt W went completely out of his way to help me out to find it, find right lightbulbs for it and help me to fit it in my car! The East Madison store seems to have persistent staffing problems with cashiers. It's not a "one off" situation, because I have encountered it multiple times over the past several years. I went to the store last night at 7:20PM to buy two, large bags of potting soil and two bags of lava rock. When I entered the store, I discovered that there were no carts. I asked the young lady at the door if they had any carts for customers. She looked and said with a very bored tone of voice, "No, they must all be outside." Since she was a store employee whose sole function was to watch the entrance, one would think that she would have ensured that more carts were being brought in and sanitized as the supply was depleted. Since I couldn't do my shopping that night due to no carts, I proceeded to the exit door. I noticed that once again there were no cashiers staffed. Every checkout lane was closed. The only option was self-checkout with the touch screens. In light of the current pandemic, that is not a customer friendly option. Germs love touch screens. I went back to the store this afternoon at about 3:30PM. The store was packed with customers, so social distancing was very difficult if not impossible. That was what I was trying to avoid by going last night. After I loaded my purchases in a cart, I went to the service desk and asked to speak to a manager. The gentleman paged Wendy to the desk. Wendy was very empathetic and understood my frustration with the lack of cashiers on multiple occasions. She told me that they were having difficulty retaining staff. After I explained everything to Wendy and gave her my contact information, I went to the only open checkout lane in the store. I was fourth in line. Before the line moved forward, a staff member closed the gate at the checkout and told all of us that the checkout lane was now closed. It was the only one open! She said everyone had to use the self-checkouts. The store was packed with customers in the middle of the afternoon, and there were now no cashiers working. I went back to the service desk and asked the same gentleman I spoke with before to page Wendy back. I explained to him what had just happened. Instead of being empathetic or apologizing, he adopted a very surly attitude and said, "Well, our employees need breaks, too!" While that is true, good customer service means ensuring that someone else is available to replace the person going on break. Not everyone can take their break at the same time. When Wendy returned, I told her what had happened. She was visibly frustrated over the situation and strode toward the checkout lanes. I followed. She found one lane with a cashier who was working with another customer. She told me to go there to check out even though the light over the checkout lane was turned off suggesting it was closed. After about a minute, the cashier looked at me and said she was closed! I told her that the manager had just told me to get in her line to check out. Wendy then came back over and logged on to the adjacent cash register to check me out. I have never seen such a poorly staffed and managed store in my life. The fact that this is happening more and more often at this particular store tells me that management is not addressing the problem. The store is conveniently located for me, but the customer service there is deplorable. read more

I'd give it a negative # if I could. We spent 34 min waiting @ the door desk. Paged twice to have someone help us. The phone rang I answered it and said we'd been waiting for 30 min @ that time. I also said I wanted to talk to the manager. Now 45 min later the manger still isn't here. read more

A common trend I've found in home improvement stores is that it's nearly impossible to find anyone who can point you to where you need to go. I made a very quick trip to this Home Depot in search of a pop-up canopy tent and after a few laps gave up and left. It's possible I wasn't finding them because they didn't stock them, but I'd never know because I couldn't find anyone to ask. The upside is that it is a little more inviting than its save-big-money competitor and it's easy to spot from East Towne. I just wish it was a little more like the commercials where I could walk in with no knowledge and be greeted and assisted by a friendly jack of all trades who actually knows the layout of the store in which they work. read more

I have been at Home Depot on the Eastside of Madison 2 times, not sure how the cabinet and appliance department stay in business. Both times I could not get anyone to help me after being there a hour. There was a lady at the cabinet desk but there was 3 people deep waiting so I waited over a hour to get her to tell me that she would get someone to help me, as there was someone else waiting for her also but I was there way before the person she was going to wait on. I was there to purchase 9 appliances and the lady I got had no clue or information on how to look up appliances. I was there 2 hours and could not get any answers or make a purchase, crazy!! read more

Mixed reviews! Great selection of products and usually great service and they have one of the best selections of LED bulbs. So here is my problem with customer service....I spent nearly $500 over a months on replacing all of the LED bulbs in my house with 2 trips to Home Depot. I purchased close to 60 bulbs with all the lights fixtures, laps, can lights, etc. After a months I checked all the bulbs to ensure they were functioning as they're fairly expensive. I found 3 not working correctly. I found the receipts which they were all purchased on. I took them back with the original 60W packet and mind you I purchased all of the exact same 60W bulbs. The customers.service rep was unsure on replacing the bulbs (mind you they come out with a 10 year warranty). The supervisor came to assist. The manager scanned the bulb packs and she said that these bulbs didn't match the receipt. Printed on the receipt was the exact name which was on the packet and because they computer didn't come up with a name she said "Im sorry these are not the correct bulbs to this receipt/computer system". I had both receipts and the supervisor pretty much called me a liar. I even stated that "so you're calling me a liar" and she just said well these don't match so you obviously have the wrong one bulbs or they were purchased somewhere else. Just to be clear Home Depot are the only company that sells this brand of bulb. I finally said why don't you run them against my credit card as I make all purchases hear on my credit card. She scanned the bulbs and swiped my card and all 3 bulbs miraculously came up with the exact same description as what was on the receipt and packages. They finally issued me with a credit. There was obviously some sort of UPC,computer or scanning error. The supervisor was surprised and just said I guess we found the right ones and Ill get a credit. You must have had the wrong receipt...No... I'm sorry, you were right, there must have been a computer error and she pretty much walked off an ignored me. VERY bad customer service. read more

First - Hardware Area: I have mixed reviews. Sometimes the help I get is great. It is usually in the garden section or the holiday section. However, in the flooring and tile section, they are pretty callous. As someone who does not know much about these areas, I was under the impression I could ask questions. After all, the commercials always show a friendly staff. No. Not really. They are so knowledgeable that they are unable to relate to the commoners. So mixed reviews on the staff. The prices? Gross. I shop there when I have to. The sales will undercut the competition but they definitely do not hold back with how much they charge you. Second - Hot Dog stand Your prices are a bit high. $3 for a hot dog? Take it down a little, just a dollar. But they are great, authentic and delicious. If you are there shopping and you need a break or a quick lunch? Definitely the place to go. read more

I am reviewing specifically the Chicago Hot Dog Cart in this Home Depot. I Love it! Who in their right mind does not want to go to a store on a Saturday afternoon shop and then have one of the best Hot Dog's in Madison? I'm just saying for $3.00 I can have a Chicago style hot dog loaded with all the fixins' including a kosher pickle. It's great. My wife gets the chili dog and swears by it. She also has said on multiple occasions at the Home Depot that the chili dog is one of the best in the area. Who would guess that a small little hot dog stand sitting in the Home Depot was so awesome! I'm telling you, instead of running out to your car to drive back home and think about doing your weekend warrior projects, take a minute and snag a hot dog at the cart located inside the entrance of Home Depot. Just like every other Home Depot. Lots of inventory. A few American-made products and lots of cheap foreign knock-offs. A small handful of the staff knows what they're talking about, but the vast majority don't have a clue. And they're quite illusive; good luck finding somebody if you have a question. Don't buy paint here, it's really inconsistent. And they've mixed the wrong color for us more than once. read more

Some days the staff are really helpful but at other times it seems like I can't find anyone to help me. One time I had to get a bathroom vanity and a toilet onto a cart by myself, and those aren't light! And I'm only 115 lbs so it was not an easy task! read more

I kind of hate shopping at this place. I am not handy whatsoever (!!!) and usually can only be dragged here to look at plants. So I went there a few days ago looking for shelf brackets. I had a picture in my phone, just in case. I asked a person, who asked another person, who showed me some but then saw the picture in my phone and showed me some different ones. None of them looked close enough (I HATE returning stuff), so I said 'forget this'. Then I went to look at plants. I found a lovely vining plant marked from $19.98 to $6.00. Of course it rang up at $12.98 or so. I explained to the friendly young man working the garden center register, who called for assistance. That individual walked over to see the plant in question and snottily pointed to the price tag. The kid at the register told him it was wrong and where to look (based on my description) for the $6.00 sign. He found it, it was adjusted, and I went home with my plant. The plant is gorgeous, otherwise I'd be pretty tempted to give them 3 stars. (Oh, and I found the correct brackets at a local hardware store when an old man working there saw me wandering around and chased me down to help me. SERVICE.) read more

Purchased over $3000 in appliances this past Aug. Helpful associate filed my 11% rebate for me....to the wrong address. I have lost count of the time I have spent contacting Home Depot, the rebate center, and any other available means. I am repeatedly told "I have escalated your rebate for review. Please wait 7 to 10 days..." It's been 4 months. This shouldn't be a complicated thing to understand, but it apparently is beyond their comprehension. read more

Managers are impossible to get to and the employees have no knowledge of what there selling. Paid for and received plumbing services - excellent. Paid three $300 months in advance for unfinished interior door and install. Door was chipped and cracked. Ordered replacement weeks ago still have not heard back from installer. Home Depot not ready for prime time for purchase and install. There is a shortage of trained workers nationally - i applaud their attempts but would not do an install with them again. Ordered light bulbs - never came. This store is too big. Way to big. I can only ever find service over by the fridges/sinks (big ticket items) so of course they'll want to help you but only if your'e purchasing a pricey item! There is too much wandering around trying to find what we need and I get sick of it quickly. I wish I could still support shopping at Menards because I would go back there in a heartbeat, it's so much better, but alas I am now stuck making my purchases here. I disagree with another reviewer about paint. Mixing is all computerized and they put a dot on top of the can to show the color. They will even blow dry it for you to see how it looks dry and assure it is what you want. It is the best place for paint in Madison I have been to. Other than paint, take your chances. I bought a grill that had bent parts and had to be returned. For lumber and hardware, I go to Menards. read more
