Huge shout out to Haley in paint department. On my first visit we got a neutral eggshell paint and the paint staff that helped us first didn't give us the sticker type of paint that was. We used the 1 gallon paint and now needed a refill. Haley was super helpful she matched the paint we needed by manually mixing it for us. She was awesome. She even got our number in the system (which I didn't know Existed) but now we can get out paint here without figuring it out what style color it is. Orlando was also there to help. Getting a gift card for Home Depot on Father's Day was great! Using it, not so much. Was asked for my drivers license to process the transaction. Treating customers like criminals is bizarre. I purchased more than was on the gift card, so I also used my debit card, which requires a pin, that I used. Strange procedure. Won't be asking for HD gift cards in the future. read more

I went in to HD on Friday afternoon to see if I could get some assistance with window coverings. I had gone to a Hunter Douglas showroom earlier in the week and was deeply dismayed by the pricing. I had hoped HD could help me find a better solution. I asked the woman, sitting at the desk in the home decor l, area if she could help me. She told me she was busy helping another customer and it would be at least an hour. I asked if I could make an appointment. I got a grimace, eye roll and sigh as if I told her she needed a root canal. She did, after an epic search through six screens on her computer and asking for my phone number and a very long wait time ... that I could come in at 7:30. I went next door to Lowe's. I sat down with Grant. He ran through several options for me in a quick and professional manner and gave me two printed estimates. He loaned me the Bali book to pick the color in my home. I have been noticing Home Depot trains their employees very well! If they don't know the answer, they will find someone that does. They seem to have basic knowledge on a ton of projects, and there are some that have the expertise behind them. The prices are very comparable to other hardware stores, but they are my go to. read more

It's Home Depot, they all have basically the same stuff, but this one has absolutely no idea what customer service is. You are on your own from the time you drive into the parking lot until you drive out. Ask an employee where something is and you'll be met with a blank face that's staring off into space contemplating what shade of green they should dye their hair next. Seriously, go find your own stuff, hit self checkout, load it yourself and you're doing better than most of the employees there. My partner asked if they had a particular block in stock but was told he was too busy moving brick and can't stop to check. Then the wait of 20 minutes just to get help loading bags of mulch. The place was a ghost town only populated with surly cashiers and multi colored hair employees who do their level best to hide from customers. If you know exactly what you need, go get it but don't expect any help from the few employees you may catch a glimpse of. read more

The service is awful and this is not just one experience with this location. I went in to purchase firewood and some starters and I noticed two employees picking up seed packets all over the floor ( large amount the wind blew them over out in garden) so I decided to help. Not one said a word to me so I thought I will just start a friendly conversation about how I was a manager of a retail store and I was constantly cleaning up something. Not one word but I kept picking it up and when done (three employees there by now) I stood up and they just walked away not one thank you or even a gesture acknowledging I was there. The rudeness of this location is consistent over years and years. Several months ago I went in to return a small item and didn't have the receipt but no worries HD keeps records of your purchase, lol. The employee told me they didn't have any record of the purchase or any purchases ever. I told her that was incorrect and gave her a second number to check and she said there's nothing. I told her I wanted to see the manager. She looked at me and said you are a child and literally pointed to a kid over at the paint samples who was about 10 and said the same size. I'm 5"4 130 pounds so she was referring to my size and still went on telling me I'm acting like a brat because I asked to see the manager. Save the aggravation and just rudeness and shop at Lowe's just around the corner. Lowe's has better customer services and they actually seem to care about happy customers. The Center Street HD location has employees that go in get a paycheck and don't want to be bothered helping anyone or just having decent customer service. Don't bother calling the manager or customer service it goes nowhere where. Lowe's is the answer HD doesn't care about you they have plenty of customers and the service shows this attitude. A corporation grows them then why are you in the garden department? I'm a 60 year-old woman two toes. I can barely walk let alone run. She made a scene in front of a line of customers that I was trying to steal something even though I was outside the gate with a Employee of Home Depot's, and he had told her we were together looking for a certain flower she humiliated me, embarrassed me, and treated me like some shoplifter. she is slow uneducated about her job. As far as I'm concerned she's a liability to Home Depot. If I could give this store a -5 stars that would still not be enough oh and don't forget about the employee who is in the bathroom and I asked where duct tape could be found as she was on her phone. As a Veteran I greatly appreciate the 10% discount I get EVERY day at Lowe's. I actually have more Home Depot's in my area, but when I inquired about a Veteran's discount they informed me it is only good three days a year. Words cannot describe how much I hate Home Depot... especially this location but I will give it a try. For years I have avoided going into any Home Depot location because it was always difficult to find something and always difficult to find an associate to point you in the right direction that works there. And almost ways what you are looking for the clerk says you have to go to the other side of the store for where you just were but you couldn't find a staff member until you were on the opposite side. So frustrating. If they are short staffed (prior to the national labor shortage) I'm sure that if HR looked where applications were submitted they would be swimming with possible candidates but you can tell like so many other places that their HR is inefficient and dysfunctional. But our story and problems didn't end there with this store. When we bought a house we were given a gift card as a "house warming " gift of considerable amount. Enough to buy several appliances from it but it was for Home Depot... nooo! Why there? Why not Lowes? Not that they are much better. So we bought a washer and a dryer using the gift card and the sale went without a hitch. However when they came to deliver the washer and dryer there was a dent in the washer. It was only cosmetic and Steve was the one home to be there for the installation and both the washer and dryer work fine but come on... if I was the one home I might have very well had them get one without a dent... which they offered to do I'm told but far from a flawless installation. So a period of time passes and we buy a dishwasher with the gift card. Neither one of us are handyman inclined but we did know enough that writing the dimensions down were very important for the dishwasher to be installed. So we picked one out and waited forever(nothing new there) for a salesperson to come. We showed her the dimensions and she said it should fit in the space we had at home. Either she didn't look close enough or wasn't paying attention because when they came to install the dishwasher it wouldn't fit. The guy that came to install thought cutting into the floor was the solution but couldn't do it since he couldn't alter something like that contract wise. We didn't like that idea to begin with so we called out a handyman in which he narrowed the counter down for the dishwasher to fit. But before we called a handyman we went back to Home Depot to find a dishwasher that would fit properly and exchange it. The supervisor of the salesperson did all the looking but couldn't find a dishwasher that would fit. We explained that the salesperson should have known the dimensions to match up with a dishwasher since they were written down right in front of her. The supervisor went on to say that the salesperson that sold us the dishwasher was one of her best associates for sales and acted like all of this was our fault. So in other words the salesperson that sold us the dishwasher escapes any accountability or further training for attention to detail because the supervisor felt like we were the truly incompetent ones. Oh, and if did want to return the dishwasher we would have to load it ourselves to bring it back even though the installer didn't make a successful installation. Thank goodness for the handyman to rectify this situation with getting it sized up right. So while we he had a small mound of grievances with Home Depot prior to the gift card by the time we spent all the money on the gift card we had a mountain of grievances with Home Depot... especially this location! I heard another Home Depot location closed permanently in Tacoma just after covid-19 arrived. It's a shame that this location didn't close too because it would have done Tacoma a great service if they did close. So I don't like Home Depot and don't think much of Lowes either. Where do I go for home improvement then? I always go to locally owned company McLendons and always have good luck and ease in finding an associate for assistance. Too bad the gift card wasn't made out to them. I understand why the gift card wasn't a generic Visa or Mastercard gift card because it would be tempting to not have it go to home improvement and maybe a vacation but after our experiences with Home Depot we really did need a vacation! read more

Today I have decided that I will not be using Home Depot in general anymore. They advertise on the Home Depot app that some tools are certain prices but they will not honor THIER OWN price in store. I asked if they would let me pay the online price and I was told NO. "Corporate wants us to encourage use of the app" is what I was told by the employee in the store. Under no circumstance should you use the delivery service, delivery window was 6:00am till 8:00pm. I was notified of the window day before deliver, delivery was made at 7:26am and I was notified it was delivered at 8:13am via text. Signature required was set at payment so I could get assistance with deliver, drivers dropped off item to big for me to handle alone and left. Item was left leaning against garage wall and I wanted it inside garage, that required turning item and moving it about 10ft. Not a big deal unless you're disabled and alone. I go in looking for a specific item and it is moved to another end of the store. Not all staff work the cash registers and yet they are wandering around when I look at them to open up another check out lane they say go down to the pro side. Others are completely knowledgeable and helpful and friendly and engaging. It depends on if you like your job I guess. I usually find what I need. The paint people are uniformly great. We've had multiple poor experiences at this Home Depot. We are remodeling our home, everything under the sun. went to ask about cabinets and the woman told us she doesn't do kitchens. We asked her if there was anyone who could help us, and she said no they're busy. Ok, not a single person in the store to answer questions so we can buy counter tops. Apparently not. Had a similar experience in the paint department, tried asking questions while we were selecting our paint, no response, gave us the wrong paint color, didnt mark the top of the paints. we have over 8 cans of different paints and colors for each project. Replaced an order in store for delivery to our home. We spent $3,000. The home Depot employees went out of their way to let us know that we are not valued customers after prepaying in full for our order. The delivery logistics were a nightmare and they shorted us on our order. I had to drive to the store to pick up the last portion of the order and I was misdirected to speak with the assistant manager who is now on vacation for a month. The behavior of the employees was unconscionable. The cognitive dissonance demonstrated by home Depot staff clearly showed that they do not understand customers are the reason they have jobs. Pretty average. The layout is totally different from what I'm used to, so it's a bit weird finding what I want. I ended up downloading the home depot app to get what I need because it's hit or miss finding an employee. One time I went and there was no one. Last time I went, three people helped me. It's a bit strange that they have two disconnected garden areas. I'm also looking for some specific gardening items and they don't carry them, so I'm on the lookout for that. I went to the flooring desk to find out about having a new backsplash installed in my kitchen. I was there for about 10 minutes, and had several questions because I've never done this before. The guy helping me didn't seem like he knew much about the process either, and he gave me lazy, evasive answers to cover up for it. In the end, he just told me to do it all myself online, which begs the question what is he there for? Anyway, when I was walking away he turned to the other associate and said, "WELL, THAT WAS EXHAUSTING." The face looks like it's real wood. Tried to stain it, but the stain didn't penetrate. However, the stain left some marks that we couldn't get off, so we decided to sand it. There's something about this Home Depot that's a little forlorn. I can't quite figure out what it is but it just seems a little sadder than most. Maybe it's because, as an apartment dweller, I always visit when something weird is needed or broken. I remember when this location was built, right across from the recently-Eagle-now-Lowe's Hardware - it seemed an odd choice, given how much of the 253 landscape doesn't have a hardware store. When I visited today, I found employees clustered in the front, with customers helping each other out throughout the store. I was looking for something fairly simple (plumber's tape) and had to visit three likely aisles to find it - and finally found it in a floating island in the middle of an aisle. Weird. They had a very limited selection of paint chips available - I've seen more in Fred Meyer. The floor is arranged in such a way that you only find something if you're specifically looking for it - this is not the store to come to for browsing grills or lawnmowers, and so forth. You'd be better served at the 72nd location or a number of other local chains. If you need something in a pinch, this will get you fixed up. If you're looking to shop for something, need help, or only have a general idea what you need, go elsewhere. read more

One of the dethatcher is defected and the teeth will not touch the ground to remove the mass but he refused to help me or direct me to someone who will. Very poor customer service. I had a gallon of grey paint custom mixed. Loved it on my wall. Went back with the color codes and had them mix 5 gallons of the same. The new paint was obviously different, it dried to a much lighter color than the first, despite it being the same color codes. When we realized this we stopped using it and went into home depot with the receipt and photos of the 2 distinct colors. The lady in the paint department said this is a known issue with that manufacturer's paint, that the 5 gallon uses a different base than the gallon size. The called in a manager (Jen) to get her approval for the return. Jen said no, no returns on custom mixes. Jen suggested I call the 1-800 number for the paint manufacturer. I asked if they stood behind their products and procedures, if they had a known issue with the mixing, why they wouldn't take care of me when they messed up my paint order. Jen's answer was, sorry, no returns on custom mixes, call the manufacturer and see I'd they'll do something for you. I will not be wasting my time with this our anything else involving HD for my home remodel. There is a Lowe's right nearby, I'll be using them for my shopping needs after this experience. Solid service and merchandise competitively priced as expected from all of the Home Depot stores. I like this store because it is closer to home and they seem to always have what I need in stock. Also, this store's customer service is better than the nearby Lowes. This is the biggest reason why I shop here. Overall rating is three stars. However, I give four stars for the electrician, Chris??, they have on staff. He Rocks! The rest of the store members are solid three star performers. Good enough, but don't try to ask them detailed technical questions. Their experiences range from low amateur to mostly experienced do it yourselfers.
