Higher-end boutique hotel in the cutest college town. Enjoyed our quick one night at The Hotel at Oberlin. We stayed during the off season so the price was fitting for our stay. We considered rebooking during peak season and the price more than doubled so we will have to find a different hotel for a one nighter. However, if we are ever back in the off season, we would stay at The Hotel at Oberlin again for sure! Check in was easy and staff were very kind. The space is beautiful. I appreciate the geothermal rooms as it is the first in the nation to accomplish this. We were a little warm overnight but I slept very well- comfy bed and pillows. The art in the room is local as well as the soap dish and shampoo/conditioner/body wash. I love the locally sourced touch. Parking is in the back of the hotel. I felt very safe here! read more

Beautiful, comfortable, clean, friendly. Visiting Oberlin to explore Kendal at Oberlin, we got a special rate at the hotel. After traveling through terrain that offered only fried and fast food in PA and Ohio, the restaurant was a welcome change to healthier, smarter eating. Very pleasant location. read more

I'm so surprised this is the first time I've stayed here in 3 years of being an Oberlin parent!!! Had I known how awesome it is, I'd have booked sooner! The staff are amazing, so welcoming! They allowed me to check in an hour early. The beds are super comfortable, shower is so nice, and there are posh shampoos and soap, locally sourced! Free parking. The restaurant downstairs was marvelous, too. What a great treat! I'll definitely stay here next visit to campus! read more

Terrible heating system in hotel room. Freezing cold but no way to set it to get warmer. Had to call front desk to have it done remotely . Then got too warm and no way to cool the room down except by calling the front desk. Was told it's geothermal and takes 1 hour per degree. But it doesn't matter because I e set the temperature in middle of night to be warmer and no change in morning. HORRIBLY uncomfortable night sleep. read more

Difficult to find the parking lot, but once we found the lot, it was convenient. Upon entering our room, we found a used contact lens stuck to the desktop. Then we found a smear of some oily yellow substance on the nightstand. Clearly their cleaners are careless. I wonder what else they failed to clean. read more

What a beautiful, modern hotel in Oberlin. The location was attached to the Oberlin College and is of contemporary design. I attended a convention of like minded folks so we arrived in the early afternoon and took advantage of their eatery the 1813. Every time, the food was good, but the service was slow. Trust me, I understand, they weren't used to the volume of people in attendance, so that was fine. The hotel is very eco conscious, Things are made local, soaps are provided in the shower that are by the pump bottle and attached, instead of sample size, The bed is large and comfortable, big black out curtains and a temperature control unit for the room make it perfect. I enjoy staying at the hotel. It's ideal since my son goes to college here. I like that the location is next to downtown Oberlin, and across from the movie theater, and a homemade ice cream shop. The Hotel at Oberlin is more than just a Lees Certified Green Hotel in a quaint artsy college town, it's hotel perfection! The hotel is well appointed, cozy, quiet and tranquil. All of the staff was warm, welcoming and relaxed. The decor and furniture are all high quality pieces with a fun mixture of texture and design. We loved all of the green features especially the geothermal temperature regulation which created a soothing sound in the background. My favorite feature though is a pet peeve of mine at other hotels but they fixed that challenge here. Most hotels when the curtains are pulled closed the track does not overlap enough creating a pocket of light that streams in all night. The Hotel at Oberlin has heavy gorgeous curtains that pull closed all the way to the wall giving you a complete black out experience which when coupled with the sound of the geothermal gives a perfect sleep experience. We stayed at the hotel last week and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel and rooms were very clean and modern and I loved the layout of the hotel with easy parking. I was disappointed that our king suite did not have a bathtub as requested. We switched to a second room that also did not have a tub, the front desk felt awful and found us a room with a tub but with two queen beds. Not quite the romantic night as planned but I can not take a shower and the bathtub was the most important part of our stay. I do feel like we should have paid the lower rate for the queen room. I requested a refund for the difference and a week later still have not had a call back from the manager as requested. I would stay again at the hotel, but would check in before we arrived with any special requests to make sure they still can accommodate. read more

I was born in Oberlin in 1970 and we moved in 1981. I love this little town and always will. This trip was so great. Crisp cool fall weather and it was perfect for walking around downtown and on campus. The Hotel at Oberlin is absolutely the best place to stay between Ashland and Cleveland. It's clean. It's sophisticated. It's friendly. It's quaint. The young lady at the front desk is wonderful and I'm sorry I didn't get her name. The room was like something out of a magazine. This is NOT the Oberlin Inn of old. It's a perfect new modern place for anybody who would like to stay in Oberlin. I highly recommend it. We weren't able to try 1833 this time, but we will next time. I'm sure it's just as great as the hotel! read more

The 3 stars are for the nice bartender girl, not any other part of the establishment. We had time to kill on Mothers Day waiting for a table at the Feve so we decided to come here for dranks and kill time. Place is really swanky. The 1.5hrs we sat there we saw how dis-organized the place is run. No sign telling people where to go for pre-booked Mothers Day brunch. No host/hostess. No servers in bar area other than the poor bartender girl. Different managers coming and going from the place. Seems like a real shit-show. Beer selection is pretty good but the draft beers all taste like ass. Run them beer lines to flush old beer and have them puppies cleaned, PROFESSIONALLY. I just checked in to this cutting edge, environmentally responsible boutique hotel at Oberlin college. I was checked by a very friendly front desk manager and I am just starting to settle in. The room is comfortable and well appointed. I would say it is a tad on the small side a size you would find in San Francisco or New York but I bet this has to do with the LEED certification they were going for. The bed and linens are first rate the layout works very well. I am going to do some additional investigating and update this review in a couple days. read more

Stayed here for work. 12 hour shifts at a local hospital. Found out on my second night as I get in after work that there's a wedding on my floor. So loud I can hear everything in my room. Why they wouldn't ask at check in if I was with the wedding guest and then move me to a different floor I have no idea. Loud wedding guests up and down the halls all night. No other available rooms to move me too. Will drive the extra 30 mins for a Marriott in the future. Better prices and better customer service. read more

The good Except for a few B&Bs, this is the only place to stay that is anywhere near Oberlin, so it's probably where you'll want to be if you are visiting Oberlin College. It is within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, and the college. It was totally rebuilt about a year ago and everything about the structure is very nice. Sort of European. The high efficiency heating/cooling system takes some getting used to, but I appreciate their modeling cutting edge design. Food is pretty good. Individually most of the staff is very nice. The bad The place is totally disorganized. Almost no information for guests about how to deal with their quirky systems. Housekeeping is very hit and miss--items missing and sometimes room for continuing guests not cleaned at all Staff is quietly apologetic about, for example, guests needing to ask where the ice machine is located, since there is no information about this in guest rooms (It is at the northwest end of the 4th floor.). Relatives who live in Oberlin feel that the hotel, which is owned by the college, cares only about those staying there because of business with the college. Perhaps this is why the usual hotel guest services are so hit and miss. Or maybe it's because they need to hire a general manager who knows how to run a hotel; cutting edge building design is not enough. read more

Stayed at this hotel right off Oberlin campus for my daughters music audition. Clean, modern, environmentally friendly hotel with a nice restaurant and bar. Rooms were clean and simple with large shower, no tub. Staff was very friendly. Location worked very well as a block away from conservatory. very unpleasant experience!!!! We arrived at the hotel on 2am and found the room was not cleaned at all! The bed sheets have not been changed. There were dirts and hair on the bed. The trash bin in restroom had gum inside. We reported this to the front desk and the person took another 30 mins to change the sheet for us because the hotel was fully booked. The rating at hotels.com is not reliable. Try to avoid this hotel if you can. read more

What a fantastic place! I've been staying here the last few days and only have praise to offer. The people have been great -- Cheryl Anderson in particular saved my bacon already twice on this trip, including when she and the nice folks at the restaurant arranged to have a great dinner waiting for me in my room because I was arriving after the restaurant would be closed. The room itself is lovely and spacious. The wifi is video-conference ready. The restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I wonder if it might be the best restaurant in town -- not a bad thing to have just downstairs. Oh, and they pride themselves on their eco-friendly systems throughout the hotel. They almost killed my brother. My family and I attended the Thanksgiving buffet dinner at the Oberlin Hotel because my brother is a senior at Oberlin College. Everything at the buffet was labeled with ingredients, EXCEPT one cupcake. This cupcake's frosting was completely peanut butter. My brother has a deathly allergy to peanuts. He took a full bite of this cupcake and immediately went into anaphylactic shock, his throat swelled up to where he could not breathe. My parents had to administer his Epi Pen in the bathroom. The managers and waitstaff were completely lethargic to my brothers ailment and my complaints about the lack of labeling of a common allergen. Once the chef and managers finally came up to us to "apologize" the chef tried to blame us telling us we should have notified them, when everything else on display was labeled appropriately. If it were not for the quick actions of my parents I do not believe the wait staff would have had the urgency or capabilities to treat my brother properly. Their complete lack of care and interest speaks mountains to their overall costumer service and work ethic. It took them 30 minutes after my brother had his reaction to finally put a label on the cupcakes then proceeded to give us the check. I am furious, my brother could had died and they acted as if the incident was a nuisance rather than a life threatening moment. I do not recommend this restaurant and believe they should be penalized for their poor service and lack of care. Not only did they ruin our Thanksgiving but they put my brothers life at risk. So we got something to eat. very disappointed in the food. cold potato's , and small portion . some kind of strange ice cream on the brownie.
