We've only been there once so far, but I don't think it will be the last time. Dance 4 Wellness, a ballroom dance business helmed by Maria Durant, has begun offering classes at this venue. We've missed dancing very much, not only due to COVID-19, but also due to some health challenges Dear Hubby and I have navigated the past few years. When the opportunity came to step back in to dancing, we decided to give it a try. The venue of the Dance Center works well for us. It's conveniently located off the 23 freeway, with plenty of free parking. Once inside, it's a large space, ideal for spreading out while dancing. Casual seating is available on two walls for taking a break, having water, or changing shoes. We wore our masks, and found hand sanitizer available. The facility is very clean. The acoustics worked well for dance music when it came time for that part of the rumba class we attended. The floor seemed easy on my feet, even though that's a newer area of aforementioned health challenges to manage. Glad to have this option for dancing venue so accessible to the eastern area of Ventura County.

My son has Autism, and Brett has worked with him so well. He is a typical dance instructor who expects his dancers to give their all, but he is aware of their needs and can address them appropriately providing positive critiques so that his dancers still love to dance. Monarchs Gymnastics has been like a second home for our family. Coach Connie was my daughter's first coach. So I can tell you first hand what an amazing coach she is. In all that time, I have only ever seen a safe, positive, and family-oriented environment. The coaches are incredible -- not only do they help the kids grow as athletes, but they also teach respect, discipline, and responsibility. Sometimes children may not always listen or act respectfully, but I know firsthand that the coaches are always focused on keeping the kids safe and guiding them in the right direction. We have trusted Monarchs with our daughter for over a decade, and I can say with complete confidence that this is one of the safest and most caring gyms you will find. If misunderstandings occur, I would hope families take time to reflect and acknowledge if they were wrong, because the coaches and staff here deserve nothing but respect and appreciation for the work they do. YES I DID CALL POLICE FOR THE ASSAULT ON A FIVE YEAR OLD BY A COACH. My daughter is five and had just come back to coach connie after missing 3 weeks of classes. She wasn't sticking the landing so coach Connie wouldn't give her a high five. My daughter was upset and when it was time to send all the girls for water all three girls ran to the water station where I WITNESSED CONNIE GRAB AND YANK MY CHILD BY THE ARM. She turned her entire body around aggressively to threaten her. I ran over and picked my daughter up and told coach connie that there was no reason to ever grab a child like that. My daughter said she was scared and hurting and that coach Connie told her she was going to punish her. I went to the front office where they pulled the footage, confirmed and said my daughter shouldn't have ran around the corner and it is their protocol to grab the child running around the corner. Only my child was grabbed. The coach was frustrated with my child for not sticking the landing and with her crying. This isn't how anybody working with children should react. I contacted the police department which I believe is lapd. They confirmed they saw the coach grab my daughter but that they stated the owner and the coach both said were safety protocols and because she didn't push, hit, or shove that they couldn't prove assault. Disappointing and disgusted to say the least! IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE. DONT GO HERE!

I'm a seasoned pole dancer who regularly trains at another studio in the SFV, but I decided to try…read moreout Rock n Pole since it's close to work and I wanted to get more pole time in. Before even attending, I had messaged directly with Cleo and made it clear that I wasn't a beginner -- I even asked about taking "high intermediate" in case the "pole tricks" class was full, and she said she could place me in that class. So my level was known ahead of time. I signed up and took an intermediate class ("Heavy Metal Hoes" with Cleo). It was more choreo-heavy than I'm used to, but I showed up and gave it my best. During class, Cleo called me out and suggested I take an 8-week course because the other students had been in that specific class for years. I brushed it off at the time -- I understand instructors wanting consistency. After class, I approached her to cancel my membership (purely for financial reasons), and that's when things got uncomfortable. Instead of simply helping me cancel, she grew defensive and began justifying the studio's pricing by pointing out her lighting and pole options -- even though I had never complained about any of that. She then stated that just because I'm intermediate at my studio doesn't mean I'm intermediate at hers, and wrapped things up by telling me her therapist had explained the difference between sympathy and empathy, and that she was "trying to sympathize" with me. The comment felt unnecessary and condescending. What really stood out to me, though, was that when I later spoke with one of her employees, she suggested I could just avoid taking classes when Cleo was there rather than canceling. That alone told me my experience wasn't an isolated one -- clearly, others have had similar issues if staff are already prepared with that kind of workaround. To give credit where it's due: the studio is gorgeous, the students seem supportive of one another, and the community energy is strong. But my personal interaction with Cleo left a bad taste. Canceling a membership shouldn't turn into an uncomfortable lecture or a psychological evaluation. I hope this was just a one-off, but based on what I've seen and heard, it may be a recurring issue. Edit to respond to Cleo's edit that she just left 10/14: Hi Cleo, I mentioned the therapist comment because it felt out of place in the situation and came across as condescending. All I was trying to do was cancel my membership, but the way our conversation unfolded made me feel pressured to stay, which added to the negative experience. Also, I'd prefer that details about the other studio I attend not be shared publicly, as that's private to me.

She is an incredible dancer and instructor - she makes each new move approachable, and creates such a fun and inclusive environment. I always get a fantastic workout and a good laugh. :-) I appreciate her emphasis on proper technique while also cultivating the most welcoming and open space to share the joy of self expression through dance.
