We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I had booked it a couple of months in advance of our stay. It seemed reasonably priced; you would need to pay appreciably more to stay much closer to downtown. Breakfast was included.
The hotel is in a 22-story building in a moderately sized plaza. It is adjacent to the Botanical Gardens. There is a subway and major tram lines within a 5-minute walk (uphill). The closest train station (Brussels Noord) is about 10 minutes away (downhill) though a sort of rough-looking-but-not-dangerous neighborhood. You can walk to the Grand Place in about 20 minutes from here.
You enter the hotel and pass between a coffee bar and the front desk. From there you descend a large stairway (or take a small elevator) down to the bar and restaurant area. This is also where the elevators up to the rooms are located. The decor seemed sort of 1960s South America travel postcard themed; it was nice.
The elevators were based on touch-pads in the waiting area. You punch in what floor you wanted and it would then direct you to a specific elevator.
The hallways were wide and spacious. The rooms also seemed quite large and had plenty of floor space. The lighting controls were a bit odd at first, but were okay once you took a minute to figure out how they worked. The beds were comfortable and the room was fairly quiet. We were on the 15th floor. One evening there seemed to be some sort of rave/party on an exposed parking deck about a kilometer or so distant. We were wondering how late that would go on, but I think it shut down by 9 p.m., surprisingly. I don't know how common that is, but it didn't affect our sleep.
Breakfast was fine. They had a limited selection and, on the first day, we placed our order with a server. However, we noted that then they just got most items from a small buffet-type counter and brought them over. I think there may have been at least one item that required the kitchen to cook it, so you couldn't fetch that yourself. However, for the rest of our stay we just asked for coffee from the server and got our own yogurt, croissant, etc. from the buffet and it was fine. It saved them some trouble also.
For other meals, there were plenty restaurants if you walked about 10 or so minutes away.
All in all, based on the price versus what you get, I would definitely consider staying here again. read more
