For the last of our 3 city/3 hotel of Europe, I lined up what I felt would be the best of the hotels. This rating may partially reflect the misaligned of the hotel experience to my higher expectations of a Design Hotel by Marriott. The staff was friendly. When we arrived a bit early, they offered to watch our stuff while we grabbed lunch. They mentioned a room should be available early as they were not too booked. We returned in about 2 hours just to check if a room might be ready but were prepared to continue to explore if not. They said the room was cleaned and just pending inspection. Foolishly we waited, it ended up being over an hour and we were now checking in after standard check in time. Frustrating but it happens. The room was spacious but had a few minor issues a hotel of this level should not. They bathroom door would not close all the way, and while spacious, the room is still cozy and without a fully shut door, one could hear, well, everything happening in the bathroom. Further, the sink would not drain unless the plug thing in the middle was fully removed from the sink. These issues were reported but we weren't expecting they be resolved before check out (and they weren't). I was on vacation but needed to check in on a few work items. My biggest annoyance was that their wifi was spotty and best and kept dropping in and out. I ended up having to take my laptop out of the hotel to send a few important emails. Disappointing. Location wise, it's great. Easy walk to everything. Tenish minutes to the train station. In the heart of downtown without being subject to all the downtown craziness. As the goal was to minimize time in room, the location made it easy. read more

If there's a song that sums up this hotel it would Sadeness by Enigma. Chants are played in the halls and that aura you feel once you step foot in the hotel. This was for a one night stay in May using my Bonvoy card's annual free nights rewards. This was my fourth time to the city. **Location** Located a 7 minute walk from the Grand Palace on a quieter part of the City Center. **Check-In** Front Desk was friendly and were informative of the spa kit that would be found in the room. **Accommodations** The room had a Dominican chant feel when you walk in. The bed was not bad and the ceilings were high. **Amenities** Reservations were needed for the gym/spa amenities. There's a nice bar and restaurant in the lobby and I didn't get a chance to check it out. **Local Attractions** The Grand Palace is less than 10 minutes away and there's a Carrefour Market 5 minutes away on Rue du Marché aux Poulets. read more

I recently booked 2 nights in this hotel and when I went to check in first the person at the front desk said oh you are Indian and then she said your Marriot member benefits or status do not apply here. She also said we are going to charge 50 Euros for early check in. I have travelled around the world and have stayed in so many Marriott properties but I never faced this kind of service or behavior. The staff was absolutely racist. Me and my son noticed that they were greeting white people with smile and pleasure while they were annoyed to see us. Then she said if you want you can cancel the hotel by calling Marriott directly. I immediately called and they helped me cancel the hotel and booked a new hotel for us. I would highly recommend not to stay in this hotel when they don't know how to treat people with equality. read more

Great location - especially if coming in to Brussels by train, the Central Station is a short walk. Fantastic service - with friendly, multilingual staff. Beautiful atmosphere - with gothic, old world charm and Bonvoy amenities. Great on-site dining options in an elegant atmosphere. Really wonderful place! We stayed one night and were upgraded to a suite. If you were Starwood fan - or are a current Bonvoy fan, make the most of your loyalty status or points and stay at The Dominican. 5/5 for location. 4/5 for staff (greetings every time you pass the front desk do get a little old), 0/5 for comfortable of sleep. It was the worst bed I have been in as long as I can remember. God awful mattress topper and the mattresses were coming apart. 0/5 for noise- you can hear the trains go by and you can hear people stomping upstairs, and this is all with the quiet courtyard-facing room. Also, they give you the option to skip housekeeping for a drink token each day but don't tell you that you have to physically request this drink token from the front desk. Lastly, the lobby is a joke and most of the area on the main level is for cafe seating where you can pay for overpriced breakfast and drinks. read more

I slept like an angel at The Dominican. Not sure if there were the spirits of the former nuns or priests (this was a convent many many years ago!) or the perennial Gregorian chants in the elevators and corridors...I did sleep like a real angel and I have a morning selfie to prove it! I was beyond excited to get a spot in this hotel for a business trip. So grateful to my colleague who insisted in me staying the night before our meeting in Brussels instead of going directly to another smaller town where we had our meetings. The day/spending night in Brussels at The Dominican was exceptional for me, being right there in downtown, only 5 minutes walk from the train station (took train from airport to there, directly) and then 5 more minutes walk distance to La Grande Place and everything beautiful the unofficial capital of Europe has to offer. The breakfast a bit pricey but they have not only buffet but also do several things a la carte, included in the price. Simply amazing. I enjoyed contemplating very posh people sitting next to me, they looked so in sync with the place (well, I was not too strident but must be the blondness in certain women make them look like they belong to aristocracy:). So this peasant did enjoy the people observing while indulging in the most exquisite breakfast food and drinks. Super friendly service in the reception as well as the restaurant. Going back to the room, I have to note the cool details such the sketchbook paper to write notes or draw something. I took it with me, as well as those teas with funny names 'night with Nancy', and similar:). Very very nice touches that made me feel very comfortable, luxurious and pampered. This is definitely one of the nicer hotels in Brussels. The problem is it is difficult to drive to if you have a car. Nearly Impossible to drop your bags off since there is no valet or drive-able road that goes there. The area is a little off the beaten path so I would be careful in the late evening hours. It is walkable to the Grand Place and other attractions. As for the rooms they were pretty clean and laid out well. No complaints. They were also quiet which is key in a hotel room. We spent New Years here at the restaurant where they had a prix fix menu. There is a nice bar in the lobby with a spacious lobby area. Good stay but I wouldn't probably come back due to the location. read more

This might be the most affordable 5 star hotel I have ever stayed in Europe. Looking for a place to stay near the old historic center of the city in Lower Town our friends found this place online with rooms priced right around 130 Euros per night. The photos on the website made the hotel to appear nice, but I sure didn't expect full on luxury. The minute you walk through the front door, The staff at The Dominican treats each guest like you are a member of the Rolling Stones. The rock star treatment begins right at check in until the day you depart. They make a point of remembering your name and always greet you when you walk in from a long day of beer and chocolate. The rooms are out of this world comfortable. Large inviting beds, updated bathrooms with gigantic showers stocked with every amenity known to man. There is even free wifi for those who for whatever reason feel the need to connect back home. In my mind, this is home and didn't ever want to leave. The restaurant and bar are also excellent. Both are located in different areas of the hotel. The bar faces the street and has a large window facing outside. The bartenders are excellent and can make you one mean cocktail. The restaurant is in the middle of the hotel and faces the courtyard. I would imagine on a warm sunny day you could dine out there, but weather was a tad too chilly for us and we elected to have dinner in the main dining room. The food by the way, is amazing and if you have a chance I would highly recommend you eat there once during your stay. If your travels take you to Brussels and are are looking for a reasonably priced hotel, you need not look any further and book your stay here. One word of caution, book directly with the hotel verses a third party website as your reservation may actually not be honored. But they will match any price you find online. read more

Location was great to walk all over the downtown area and Grand Place. Beautiful bar and lobby but the rooms are loud. Street noise from outside and thin walls let all sounds from neighboring rooms in : cell phone ringing, shower running, toilet flushing, people cough or sneeze. You hear EVERYTHING!! Housekeeping was inconsistent: only ONE glass in the minibar, we asked for 2 but gave up after asking the 3rd time. Coffee capsules refill only happened once and we had to call twice to get them delivered. Coffee cups not washed or replaced. Bathroom towels are probably the smallest you have ever seen in a hotel. Shower drain was clogged with hair which caused bathroom floor to flood. Only thing nice is the exterior and the bar. No way to pull up with a car to drop bags and a person in a wheelchair. Front desk staff does not seem to be caring about that at all. read more

Excellent hotel! Very clean, comfortable, and stylish. I booked my reservation off of Travelocity. Walking up to the hotel, the outside looks like many of the other buildings in the area. However, just waking in the entryway, you are greeted with iron gates and beautiful candle decor. The lobby is modern and simple, with large windows looking though to the restaurant and a outdoor courtyard. The multilingual staff were accommodating and helpful from the first moment. The hotel room was perfect size, not too small but not allowing for space that would go unused either. The bathroom was what really set this place apart for us. The shower was so relaxing. Stone floor and walls helped keep in the heat when the rainfall shower head (which was huge with great pressure) was on. The lighting and mirrors were placed in perfect areas to help you get ready. And there was no sign of aging or dust anywhere to be found. The air conditioning lacked some, but it was okay because the windows were able to open and let in some cool spring air. There is a gym with a few treadmills, bikes, and eipticals, as well as a sauna and steam room as well. We did not try the restaurant or bar, but if we were here more than two days we would have. The bar looked like a nice place to wind down after a busy day or to start the night off. The locations was perfect too. We walked everywhere. From Brussels Central train station, it's under 10 minutes walking. And same for most all the tourist sites, restaurants, and bars. If we return to Brussels, I don't think I would even bother looking anywhere else. The Dominican is how hotels should be. read more

The claim of this hotel is that they are a "five star" hotel. This is clearly not the case. The hotel rooms are decent and pretty clean. However, it should be much nicer with such a hefty price tag. The bathroom shower doors were not long enough and leaked a ton of water all over the floors. The biggest issue was with the service. If you're thirsty and want a few waters after a long trip, too bad. The reception will not give you more than 2 cups of water. You must walk over half a mile to the nearest grocery store to pick up jugs and haul them back. Overall, it was a mediocre hotel experience, however the poor service and hefty price tags makes this an undesirable location for a vacation in Brussels. It's a stylish hotel, still comfortable and not trying too hard. Rooms are fairly small, though providing all the expected creature comforts. I was annoyed when they gave me a room with two twin beds instead of a single larger bed and it wasn't flagged at checkin (they do have rooms with larger beds, so check with the desk). My stay was very quiet and I got great sleep when jetlag wasn't keeping me up. My primary complaint? The gym (tiny and a bit stuffy) left much to be desired, they only had a few treadmills/ellipticals and no free weights. read more

And I couldn't be happier! Not impressed. I just tried to order tea in the open and empty garden area and was asked to leave because I wasn't ordering a full meal. I can have tea somewhere else they said. No one offered to help me in with my bags when I arrived and no one offered to help me with my bags up to my room. No city map was offered upon arrival and the staff has been anything but friendly (waitresses and front desk staff) Lovely hotel gets 4 stars for cleanliness and room quality, the hallways are dark and a tad dingy and so far the staff gets a zero. I stayed at this hotel recently. Upon checking in, I discovered I accidentally booked a 2-day stay rather than just 1 night. The front desk staff told me I would not be charged for the night. After confirming this before leaving, the hotel has charged me and continues to lie about what they told me while there. While I made a mistake, I should not have been told differently in person and once leaving they continue to lie to me as a customer and Ambassador Elite in the Marriott Bonvoy program. Now this is a place I could happily call my home away from home! I stayed at The Dominican twice with the last few months and both visits were pitch-perfect. Not only is the hotel super central, cozy, and tastefully decorated, Pia at the welcome desk was the epitome of, well, welcoming. From vintage boutique recommendations and chocolate advice to how to handle my spotty wireless connection, she handled all questions big and small with elegance and efficiency. And she wasn't the only one. The rest of the staff, from the guy who came up to my room to figure out why my TV wasn't answering my remote commands (he unplugged and replugged the TV and voila!) to the bartender at the bar who made a fab dirty martini and the manager who arranged my conference room reservations, everyone had the perfect mix of competence and charm. Since I was also giving some training sessions while I was there I rented one of the conference rooms they have on the ground floor and was thrilled with the quality of the spaces and the wow-impact they had on my guests. Included in the very reasonable fee were chic bottles of water and these nifty notepads that everyone raved about. Can't recommend this place more, especially if you're traveling for business and need a chic and central spot to meet and greet. read more

My husband and I stayed here for five nights on our honeymoon. The hotel was highly rated on Trip Advisor and I'm so glad we stayed here. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating. They knew us by name and upgraded our room when they found out it was our honeymoon, as well. Because it is not RIGHT on the Grand Place, it's quieter and way less crowded, which was a big plus for us. Still, it's a stone's throw from everything, including the Metro stations. The staff are respectful of your comings and goings, are happy to bring you anything you need at any hour of the day, and will give you a map and point out places to go. The coffee in the room was excellent for hotel coffee--espresso in a Nescafé machine. Our room had a safe and a fridge, and our modern bathroom with the rain head shower was fabulous. We dined one evening in the hotel restaurant downstairs and found it worth the price. Again, the service was impeccable. There is a little hallway next to the elevators that hosts two iMacs for one's use (with QWERTY keyboards), which is a really nice added feature. When we needed to print our train tickets to Bruges, the front desk printed them for us. They ordered us a taxi upon checkout and went over our bill in detail. We left completely satisfied and feeling like cherished customers. The hotel is quiet, the rooms are well insulated, and the service is five stars. We will be staying here again when we return to Brussels. read more

Situated right on the edge of Centre Ville, The Dominican takes on an amusing and ironic "luxe monastic" theme. Yes, you read that correctly, and I'm dying to meet the person who came up with the idea. The elevators and the TV in your room all blast gregorian chant, while nattily-attired monks -- er, bellhops and clerks -- attend to your every need with a quiet and kind demeanor. Expect to pay south of 200 euro for an "executive" room which features a super comfortable bed, a smallish but workable desk, and a well-appointed bathroom with... monastic-style doors. I have been coming to BXL for 10 years and this is my usual hotel, and one of my favorites. I like a clean modern hotel, and this certainly fits the bill. Nicely located behind the opera house on Rue Dominicain, and no more than 200 meters from the Grande Place. The restaurant is a bit of a rip off for a hotel restaurant, but the fitness center is nicely, the bar is excellent and all of the services are fast and friendly. This is a really modern, relatively minimalist, design hotel. It is not especially expensive for Brussels and is in a great location for the city centre - away from the crowds, but only a few minutes walk away. When we arrived, we were greeted with a little cup piping hot Belgian chocolate, perfect after getting cold and wet coming from the car park around the corner. We had dinner in the hotel the first night, very expensive for rather meagre and somewhat mediocre food. No wonder no one else was eating there. Sunday, they were hosting an event called 'brunch beats', which took over the whole reception, bar and restaurant for the whole day with drunken revellers and very loud euro-dance music (clearly audible throughout the hotel)...at the Dominican, Sunday is not the day of rest. This didn't impact us too much as we were out most of the day, but a little warning would have been nice. This review is actually for the Nyhuset Service Apartments that are owned/operated by The Dominican. I checked in at the Dominican, but the service apartment is around the corner (entrance is discreetly located on Rue de l'Ecuyer). Giving this a 4 star rating. Staying in Brussels for a month for work and found this gem. Due to my lengthy stay, the nightly rate came out to 90euro/night. A tremendous steal! Otherwise, the nightly rates are pretty high 150-200 euro/night. The studio apartment is furnished with a king size bed with pillow top mattress (the sheets had some small holes in it but still clean). There's a 3-seater couch and lounge chair that looks like a chair for a psychiatric patient. In the kitchen there's a dishwasher, small fridge (with freezer compartment), espresso machine, toaster, sink, stove top (2 electric ranges) that has a fan, and a microwave. The place is furnished with utensils, cooking tools (spatula, peeler, chef's knife, cutting boards, 1 pot, 1 pan, etc.) and dishes/cups/bowls. Most everything is from IKEA. There's a small flat screen TV that gets some local channels, BBC, and CNN. The bathroom is nice with marble flooring. There are two shower heads you can choose from: the handheld and the rain-can overhead. The water pressure for the rain-can overhead is very low so I never use it. But the handheld showerhead works fine. Hot water in an instant. Another big big plus is the washer-dryer machine in the bathroom. I don't have to spend extra money to get my clothes washed. Just had to buy detergent and fabric softener. Other notes: -Wifi is free. - Very high ~16 foot ceilings. Daily cleaning (except on weekends) though they don't change your sheets every day, but they do vacuum and replace new towels. One time the maid even did my dishes. -Few minutes walk to Grand Place -Few minutes walk to either Gare Centrale or De Brouckere metro stations. -My studio is right above the street but it never gets loud. The few negatives are: -Wifi is EXTREMELY slow. Don't expect to Skype home to your family/friends. The internet traffic seems to die down in the wee hours of the morning. I complained twice to the hotel management and they indicated that they had just signed a new contract with internet service provider to upgrade the speed which may not take effect for a couple weeks/months. -Turn the heater on full blast and it doesn't get that warm. I end up turning on the wall-mounted water heater in the bathroom and that helps. -The Domincan hotel has a gym but it's fairly lacking. They have quite a few treadmills/elipticals and one set of adjustable dumbells. There is a TV and bathroom/shower in the gym. read more

An amazing hotel ! In such a quiet and upper end location- quantum leaps better than the amigo hotel- which is supposedly a 5 star- president Obama stayed there , Beyoncé , yada yada - but it's old , run down and in a very LOUD area of center town - the Dominican is so much better ! A newer hotel- edgy but with the right touch of grandeur and comfort , and the service !!?? Amazing !!! We have never experienced this level of unkind and rude customer service from any hotel chain as we have with our interactions with The Dominican in Brussels. The Marriot system integration with IHG has been challenging and the room date and type we booked online did not inform us that we could not change it. We called Marriot as soon as we realized and they ensured us that they would help us out. Marriot sent multiple emails to this The Dominican hotel and its management requesting room cancellation, We are going to re-book the room on alternate day and The Dominican hotel said they don't care about customer service and we will lose out money for any changes. We are a Marriot gold member and The Dominican hotel doesn't care about that either. How inconsiderate does one have to be to not even want to help a customer who is patronizing their hotel. Our reservation is in November and we are reaching out to this hotel in January so you are trying to tell me that your hotel is so bad that you cant re-sell the room - we even asked if we could change it to a point reservation and they said NO Stay away from this hotel who does not respect their customers and is unkind to the individuals who pay them to keep them in business. So this review is two parts: one for the hotel and the other for the bar/restaurant. The hotel is lovely with a big room and big bathroom with a shower and separate tub, and they even provide bath salts. The bottle of water with the coffee had no price on it, so I assumed it was free, but it was actually 5 Euros. The hallway reeks of some kind of awful incense. Also, we had to call twice about the broken coffeemaker. You can't tell what the temperature is in the room because the thermostat has no numbers. Now on to the bar. Service is fair by American standards (but, then again, most of the service in Brussels is like that). The food was tasteless and bland. We shared the chicken with curry sauce and rice and it had no flavor. We only ate there because we were tired of walking and wished we hadn't. It's also pricey! Don't bother. No one seems to eat in this place, only have one cocktail and leave. read more

Excellent hotel in one of the best locations in Brussels. This used to be an old convent and we thought it was a nice touch that they played Gregorian chants in the elevator and hallways. Maybe it was my imagination but I swear that I could also smell a hint of incense in the hallways. Nice touches. The hotel is tucked into a quiet street but is within 5 minutes to the Grand Palace, 3 minutes to Delirium Village (where all the cool bars are), 3 mins to Galeries Saint Hubert and 10 minutes to Place Sainte Catherine. We just walked everywhere and could easily go back to the hotel to drop off things we bought and quickly get refreshed. Would definitely stay here again. read more

Very obsessed with this hotel. It is in the most central location and every time you get tired of walking, well you can just pop in for a nap. I read all prior reviews with complaints about the bed and the thin walls and they were concerning to me, however we booked it anyways. I believe I had the best naps and best nights of sleep in this hotel ever. The bed was the most comfortable and just enveloped you. I may have heard a little noise one night, but due to the comfort of the bed I just boop fell back asleep again so quickly. The bar downstairs and the breakfast buffet are both cute and amazing. Very important: THERE IS A CONTAINER FILLED WITH LIQUID CHOCOLATE IN THE CORNER OF THE LOBBY THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST TRY!!!! IT IS A MUST!!! EVEN IF YOU DO NOT STAY HERE. This was the best chocolate I have ever had in my life and if the Uber had not arrived so quickly I probably could have finished the entire container on my own. I chose to write one anyway, because when I saw the name on my Yelp feed it put a big smile on my face. I love the Dominican. I spent my first valentine's day with my boyfriend here and they made it a really special occasion for us. Even though it was snowing and miserable outside, you are in your little bubble when you have a hotel room in the Dominican the staff was very nice and attentive and I loved their attention to details.
