We were pretty excited for this place. Great atmospheric here, nice people and cool menu but the food was disappointing. I had the banh mi and there was so little filling it was crazy. Just a couple carrot slices and literally a couple small zucchini slices cut in half and a little daikon. It was so much bread and hardly any filling. The braised beef was ok but again too much bread for filling --chicken tacos were great as was the biscuit sandwich. We would recommend those. Not a single complaint about The Hub. I would go out of my way to find a Farm-to-Table restaurant and yet this one I didn't even know about until walking in. I consider that a win in my book. Such a fantastic menu that made it so difficult to choose. Plenty of gluten free options, even among the delicious and tempting bakery items. They make/sell their own granola which was equally as tempting, as well as selling local eggs, meat, and ice cream. Besides coming by for a meal, it would be a great place to grab a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and study/work/chat with friends. Love the natural vibe and friendly service, where you order at the counter and wait for the food to be brought to you. This place also looks much smaller from the outside but there are plenty of seating options available. I ended up getting the "grown up grilled cheese" which was nothing short of absolutely incredible (with pesto and mushrooms and side greens). My sister got the trout scramble which she also said was delicious...served with three strips of bread and olive oil. Love supporting local restaurants and local farms which isn't hard to do when the food just tastes so fresh and delectable! read more

The wacky Yelp interface tells me my five stars are "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" and this place is worth at least those two exclamation points. This is really, really good stuff, and a clear stand out in this town. I went for breakfast and had the Smashed Avocado + Preserved Lemon breakfast toast. The "artisan"-style bread was cut thick, but super fresh (the hard crust was flaky and the crumb soft and chewy, like it should be). It was topped with mashed avocado and pickled onion, plus just a slight dusting of chili flakes. I added Cholula salsa to mine. A place that has Cholula and Tapatio on hand is already on the right track in my book. Other breakfast options are other kinds of toasts, oats, granola, egg sandwich, breakfast burrito, and a dish I've gotta try: Morrocan baked eggs "shakshuka" - a stew of roasted tomato, potato, kale, egg, with labneh and flat bread. Never heard of it, but If that sounds intriguing to you too, imagine the same kind of attention paid to the other "ordinary" menu item. They are no ordinary oatmeal, sandwiches, and burritos, at least on paper. Check out my picture of the menu. The whole menu just blew me away, and makes me want to go back to try them all. Fresh, healthy, original food, all sourced as locally as possible according to what they say. Enjoyed the view overlooking the Union Plaza with all its good-looking parkscape of trails and the creek. Haven't seen the dinner menu, but apparently they open after an afternoon lull for a full-service restaurant at night. The place is likely to appeal to "foodies" if that means anything. But thankfully this town does not suffer from unsufferable hipsters. When I went, there were simply some locals there. Three senior ladies out for their morning coffee, and a group of six young professional types who struck me as some civic or small business types doing some planning. Bottom line, the place is not pretentious, just mindful of innovative food sourced locally. I've met the owners Doug and Krista Dittman when we've gone out to their Branched Oak Farm NW of Lincoln to buy milk and cheese. They are about as humble and down-to-earth people as you can find. They've done a spectacular job putting this place together. Hope it sticks around and only gets better. read more

The Hub had an interesting menu- lots of fusion foods going on! We decided to try the chicken bulgolgi tacos and huevos rancheros for lunch. Presentation 10/10. Chicken was tender but the tacos got very salty towards the middle of the 2nd taco, probably from the kimchi. We ate all the salad to mask the saltiness but still couldn't finish the tacos. My friend loved the huevo rancheros as it was filling and almost nostalgic. Its worth adding avocado! Id skip the pickled onions though. All I can say is "wow!" Outstanding addition to the Lincoln dining culture. For my first breakfast here I tried their avocado and preserved lemon toast- what a great combination-fresh avocado and other spicy toppings on very thick homemade bread. The tasty latte was a nice addition. Definitely coming back! And I can also recommend the huevos rancheros- lots of tasty black beans and both red and green chile sauce- you can add chorizo and avocado. Bueno! read more

My favorites have been their pizzas and their French onion soup, also had some delicious sliders at one point. And the cheese plate-OH THE CHEESEPLATE! So good. And the brunch...where do I begin. Huevos rancheros was my prior go-to, but more recently I've been ordering the breakfast sandwich-that biscuit is divine. My friend and I went here for breakfast before her bridal shower. We shared the yogurt and Moroccan eggs. The granola in the yogurt was awesome and made in house. The yogurt isn't very sweet which complimented the granola well. The eggs were super flavorful and paired with yummy crunchy flatbread. Super cute decor and friendly waitress. I have been here twice so far, both for breakfast. I have been very impressed with both items I ordered. They do change up there menu so it isn't always the same, but the first time I had the trout egg scramble (which fish for breakfast isn't my favorite but it was still very good) and the second I have the chicken breakfast tacos. I HIGHLY recommend the breakfast tacos but every plate that went by me looked amazing. The food is high quality, very well portioned, and are pretty reasonably priced. They have breakfast options, lunch options, small plates, and coffee items. Perfect place to meet for a casual meal or just a nice cup of coffee. If you have any sort of allergy or intolerance this place is a good go-to! Besides the great food, the ambiance is casual, clean and bright! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Due to all of the great parts about this place there will most likely be a line (especially on the weekends) so prepare some extra time. read more

It wasn't really my scene in all honesty. The atmosphere had potential, but it was really loud for a breakfast place. I paid $14 for avocado toast and eggs plus coffee which seemed excessive. The coffee wasn't as good as the reviews made it out to be. The avocado toast was the best part,but it's the only reason for the second star. I live in L.A. so I was beyond surprised and impressed that Lincoln, NE would have a place so delicious. They had vegan and gluten free options and the atmosphere was hip and relaxing with all different areas to sit, some with couches and big cozy chairs and tables too. It is in a great area by a park. Came in for breakfast, not very busy but by the time we left it for sure picked up. They don't take reservations, they do absolutely have outdoor seating nestled next to the nature preserve. I had the chicken bulgogi tacos and can vouch for the kimchi being authentic and the robust flavor of the bulgogi being the real deal. Coffee was phenomenal, potatoes were underwhelming, gluten free toast was so much better than Udi's and to round out our table was the far from ripe avocado. How disappointed I was when told they don't make it anymore. So in considering a substitute, I'm told I can get it if I order a certain full breakfast. What!!! I don't want a full breakfast, just toast. "So, can't I just get quark ( that you don't make anymore) and jam for my toast?" "No, the cook gets mad at me." Wait, what??????? After an interaction with the pretentious staff the two of us each got one egg with home style cottage fries and a coffee and paid $40. The home style cottage fries looked like something out of Swanson breakfast entree and tasted just as bad. The food was flavorless and incredibly overpriced. We left feeling like we had been ripped off. The people around us who were enjoying their minuscule avocado toast and no refill coffees seemed comfortable putting the next few generations deep in debt. read more

The food was amazing, service was fast and friendly! Came here two days in a row because the farm egg sandwich is so bomb.

So hubby and I had lunch here today. The service was awful. I got the Avocado Toast with an egg and added a side of bacon. He ordered the Biscuit and Gravy with a cup of chili and an iced tea. My food arrived and then 9 minutes went by until they brought his. WTH? And his meal was "already prepared" items that should have just required plating. I mean the chili and gravy and biscuits should be pre-made right? At this point another three minutes go by until his iced tea arrived "because we ran out!" But worse, his food was barely warm. I doubt that if the Health Inspector had put a thermometer in either the chili or gravy, it would've passed. This was all very disappointing because we've eaten here before and like the food usually. The staff seems overwhelmed and they just are not having fun. The two kids working the front of the house are not good at it or not suited for it. Too bad. read more

Love the idea, love the location, really like the space. The food has been very good. I like that they have some food items to go. The Hub Cafe falls short in service. I've been there multiple times, and every time there is something...awkward. The staff aren't ever on the same page. They are usually nice, but sometimes the confusion leads to, shall I say, unintentional unfriendliness? They have a bar, which is awesome, but they always seem to be out of something or won't pour a bourbon straight, for example. You have to buy a mixed drink with the bourbon. If I want to pay for a drink, what does it matter? Maybe if they streamline some of their processes, it would be better for employees and customers. I'll keep going back, but maybe not a frequently as I would as if they made some changes. Cheers! read more

The sandwich is thick and a bit difficult to eat but is worth any mess! The skillet comes in a bowl with some bread on the side and was very tasty and filling. We'll be back. read more
