Hands down the worst restaurant experience I have had since I started eating plant bases 3 years ago. I have gone to steak houses and been accommodated. I have ordered burgers without the meat. Omlettes without eggs. Sometimes it takes creativity to be able to go out with groups and still eat plant based. I have never had a restaurant not try and be helpful and do whatever, I just may have had to pay a lot. Then we have this place. I originally ask if on the Huevos Rancheros, I can sub the eggs for potatoes, understanding they may not let it be a substitution, which would be understandable. The person taking my order says he doesn't think the chef will let me take the eggs off. That it is the main cost of the dish, locally sourced eggs. That huevos means eggs...I am kind of shocked, and I say you mean I can't even order it without eggs, and add a side of potatoes? I point out that he just said I am taking most of their cost away, and I am willing to pay up for that. He says he will check with the chef, and the chef says no, it is an integral part of the dish and he won't remove them. I state that I am not ordering anything then. My mother-in-law then steps up to order and says the she was nervous to question now about kale, and the clerk makes a snide remark asking if she wanted to remove the kale from the kale salad? The manager did refund the 4 people who were in my party who had already ordered. Strange a business would lose money on food already being prepared rather than put the chefs ego aside and accommodate their customer. Oh well, had a much cheaper breakfast down the road. read more

Really cute place! Good, local food. But, crazy expensive. I understand that supporting local, independent farmers costs more. But, the cost is really high. The Gwyneth Paltrow pizza is good, but not $14 good. Maybe $10-11. And the fried egg sandwich was the best egg sandwich ever! But at $9.50, well, that's a hell of a lot. Maybe if the components of the sandwich were more plentiful the price wouldn't be so shocking. But c'mon, a biscuit, one egg, greens, and pickled onions for 9.50? That's nuts. Good food, yes. And I'm happy to support a local eatery. But it's just too expensive for what you get, so sadly, this won't be a regular haunt. read more

Beautiful atmosphere. This farm to table focused restaurant was much needed in Lincoln. I had a hard time deciding what to get. There was a 25 minute wait because we did not have a reservation, and it was a Sunday morning. The wait was better with a cup of coffee, though. :) I ordered the Pumpkin Spiced French Toast. It was delicious. It was not overly sweet or heavy. It had the right amount of flavor. The service was fast once seated. Our server, Kyra, was accommodating and friendly! I met a friend here for lunch at her suggestion. The menu has very limited options and nothing on the menu appealed to me. I don't eat quinoa or tabouli and I eat enough eggs at home. So I had a pre-wrapped chicken salad sandwich and the pre packaged cheese selection. Sandwich was bland, no taste and the bread was mediocre and dry. Cheese was ok, but at $10, overpriced. Prices were high considering you have to stand in line to get your food and bus your own table. Very school cafeteria-ish in appearance and noisy. The cafe design doesn't seem to match the menu. Staff not exactly friendly when paying. Very slow line to order/pay. I wasn't impressed and I won't be back. It's just not my kind of place. read more

It's a nice small place. We went in to get breakfast and I saw someone's picture of the menu and thought the food looked great. However, when we actually got there the menu was completely different and everything seemed so fancy and not filling. So instead we got some coffees and a coffee cake. I will say they were both good and the total was $10. Pretty reasonable. I will say the food coming out looked good, but I was more in the mood for some grub vs some plate with a bunch of food I can't pronounce. read more

This is my favorite place in town. All the food is from a local farm. They have amazing coffee with homemade vanilla syrup. They have plenty of healthy options that are absolutely delicious. If you want something that is a little more on the meaty side they have that too. They also have amazing teas that come in these cute little blue cups! My favorite tea and the most exotic one they have is lapsang souchang, it is a tea that is smoky in flavor and is simply wonderful if you feel like being a bit adventurous. The people working there are incredibly nice too! Highly recommend! read more

I am reluctant to tell you about The Hube cafe.... because it is that good!! A little to busy for a quiet Saturday brunch but no worries because you can get it to go. It's sustainable, local grown, food to table menu is short and sweet like most really great restaurants. The focus in getting those dishes right really shows in the quality. The French toast with pecans, real butter, and raspberry compote is a well balanced and tasty example of their skill. Highly recommended you hit it.... But go early because they close at 2:30 pm! read more

Came for a brunch option on the edge of downtown and what a treat! The simple cup of coffee was fantastic, a little artisan feel without the snobby finish. To eat I went with the huevos rancheros and goodness was it delicious. I was a little surprised with the high end presentation feel of the plate, but hey who doesn't like to feel fancy on a Saturday morning. My daughter just got married and served THE BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies, sprinkled with salt flakes, that I have ever had. They are just the right size with just the right outside crunch, soft inside with just the right amount of chocolate to melt in your mouth! I asked her who made them and she said they got them from the "Hub Cafe"! Forget cake! These cookies and a glass of Cabernet are the perfect ending to any meal! Hands-down the best brunch place in Lincoln. Although The Hub can be busy, the food is well worth the wait. I have been here many times and have never ordered anything less than spectacular. The food is fresh, the staff is speedy, and the vibe is very down-to-earth. Some of my favorites include: the farm egg sandwich, biscuits and gravy, and huevos rancheros. However, the best item on the menu is the grown up grilled cheese. For only $8.50 you will leave the cafe stuffed and satisfied. The addition of pesto to the grilled cheese really ties the sandwich together. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. read more

More like a 3.5 on a good day. To be clear, I rarely give 4 stars and have hardly rated any 5's. This place is beautiful and Lincoln is certainly short on lovely places to dine...especially with locally sourced food and organic, visually pleasing atmospheres. The food is pretty good but not great. It's a bit pricey for what you get, understandably so in some areas such as the eggs, cheese and meat, but the veggie plates are a little over priced. They had a very good lightly spiced chick pea dish that is no longer on the menu...that disappoints. The chai is never hot and often too sweet and again, expensive for the portion. The brewed coffee is sometimes sour, though nicely strong. Sour often happens when brewing coffee at an incorrect temperature calibration. They are a bit weird about certain things too...like not substituting jam for cheese on toast that comes with a meal...this should be a straight swap but they will charge you for the jam even though your forfeit the cheese. My toast is rarely toasty too. But that's my preference, toast that is a bit golden. A lot of the meals are also dry...a bit more juice or sauce makes all the difference in a meal consisting of mainly bread, cooked meats and veggies...no one wants to have to slug down water or coffee with a mouth full of dry bread or whatnot to get it down. Some local hot sauce options would be nice. There are several people making it in Lincoln, Blue Stem Herbs and Ricks Hot Sauce to name two. One more thing, if they sold their ghee and cheese here in a grab and go fridge, I'd buy it. If the prices were a little more reasonable and they would fix a few things, I would come more often for sure, most likely weekly instead once per month or 6-7 weeks. read more

We have breakfast every Sunday morning at Hub, and there is an excellent reason for it. We love everyone who is involved in making it the best breakfast ever! I truly believe that everyone from the owner to the dishwasher are completely involved in making Hub the most interesting, inviting establishment possible. Some people complain about waiting in line, but I have never heard anyone complain about the food, much less the service. I visited the Hub Cafe today. I appreciate that they support local. This establishment is a very trendy place, with a neat, sophisticated vibe. The mugs are beautiful and rustic. My coffee was quite good! I did remove one star. I feel that the customer service was OK. Not good, not great. When I arrived, the gal behind the desk was making plans with another employee and didn't acknowledge me for quite some time. I was disappointed with that, but everything else was fine.
