I've had a lot of massages, so let's just say I don't impress easily... but Kevin at The Human Body Shop? Yeah--he's legit. I went in thinking "okay, let's see what you got," and he quickly humbled me He found knots I didn't even know existed and actually worked them out instead of just rubbing lotion around and calling it a day. Kevin likes to inform and educate on how to prevent knot buildup the best you can at home, provides video examples, and gives you a list of things you can work on to improve the way your body feels. I was expecting some large shop where a lot of people would be working, but it turned out to be just a room in a large warehouse with a kid named Kevin. I was VERY disappointed at first, but hey, this kid has some serious hands. He fixed all of my problems and that's all I care about. I had a bunch of knots and tension in my body and he fixed it all. By far the best massage therapist I've ever worked with and let me tell you I've worked with quite a few. He isn't your typical foofoo massage. He finds your problem and GETS THE JOB DONE. Had a few sessions here and it was great. Kevin is very knowledgeable in how the muscles work and how it is all connected. I've had lower back and hip issues for a few years and he knew which spots to get to loosen up those areas. I feel much better after each session. Recurrent neck/shoulder pain from prolonged computer use had me looking for local massage places, but I probably never would have found this place if it hadn't popped up on my Groupon radar. Kevin was super responsive with texting/calling, and the weekend and evening hours are convenient for making appointments after work. The facility itself was unexpected. It's a room amidst what seems like a storage/sales area, but it has all the essentials. At the start of the session, he asked what my issues were and if there were any pre-existing injuries to be aware of. It was all very targeted in that respect, and he spent quite a bit of time on the muscles that bothered me. He constantly elicits feedback, which is great for people who don't always volunteer whether they like that amount of pressure, etc. It's two days later, and the neck and shoulder discomfort when I sit down at the computer has been drastically reduced. I recommended this place to a friend with a muscle sprain from working out, and would also recommend this to anyone who has specific musculoskeletal discomfort they want to target. Injured my ankle 10 years ago in college (never fully recovered ever since). Slowly my pelvis started to tilt and one leg becomes longer than the other. Tried physical therapy and many chiropractors with very limited results. Finally met Kevin who not only know how to do musculoskeletal work (to loosen the overly tightened muscle) but also strengthen the weakened muscle groups (because of the long-term imbalance) through targeted exercises. All I do is one or two sets of exercises everyday to maintain a much more balanced body of myself --- I would say the exercises are exactly tailored to address my problem (never thought simple exercises could do magic to correct my imbalance). i sought corrective massage with the human body shop after being tired of my spa massages not getting to the root of that one horrible knot that ached horrendously every morning and selectively throughout my days. my first massage had me feeling literally brand new! i've since not gone back to the spas i used to frequent for much needed full body relief. thanks to Kevin, in the past few months i have began to understand the real problem causing my neck and shoulder pains allowing me to address that and actually alleviate and control that darn stubborn shoulder pain using stretches and targeted workouts in between massages. i now have more days without that knot than i do with it, and before this experience i felt like i just had a perpetual knot that could never go away. full disclosure this is no spa massage: this is an active massage in which you are actively using breathwork and active movements during the treatment, it can sometimes be painful but the release after the pain is worth all the discomfort! i highly recommend a body tune up at the human body shop. 10 star yelp review for sure. read more
