So I saw a few recent social media posts on this place. The early reviews online on Yelp and Google looked promising, so we decided to give it a try. It was easy to find parking in Madison Centre, because the place never really gets busy.
We arrived right at open. There were a few people already waiting outside. Once we were seated, the space filled up quite fast and customers were put on a waiting list soon after.
The dining space itself is unchanged from when it was Tendon Kohaku. Very simple, lots of neutral colours, so it feels warm and bright.
I was able to sample the following:
- Chargrilled Pork-Bone In Roast: OK. It was delivered on a hot sizzling plate, so that is always nice to see. It looks big, but once you remove the bone, it's the same quantity of meat as any other dish. It's a bit of work to remove the bones. The rice had too much water - it was mushy. Miso was ok. The self service salad bar is only cabbage, green onions and pickled carrot/daikon, which is good for adding some fibre, but nothing outstanding.
- Pork & Chicken: OK. Meat tasted fine, but not any better than a lot of other grilled meat from a Vietnamese restaurant.
Service is minimal as orders are placed on the tablet connected to the table. You only need to wave down a server if there are problems, or if you want the bill.
Overall, it was fine. It was convenient, and the portion size is quite large. Quality is average at best. Otherwise, nothing too memorable. read more
