    shanghai pasta

Yume Dining has been on my list for some time, and after seeing all these Instagram reels, I decided it was time to give it a try, as I happened to be in the area. The restaurant is quite spacious and clean, with ample seating. My boyfriend and I selected a few things, and they all turned out pretty good! The garden salad was sweet and refreshing, featuring homemade ricotta cheese, and is great for those who want to incorporate some greens into their diet. Next, the Shanghai pasta arrived. I personally found it a bit oily and lacking in flavour, but my boyfriend liked this dish as it was spicy and filled with clams. The dish I was most excited to try was the unagi futomaki. The futomaki was very well-portioned, and the unagi on top was a fun addition that added flavour and texture. It is very filling and is great for sharing with others. Service was prompt, and our tea cups were consistently refilled throughout dinner. Although I wouldn't go out of my way to return, I would most likely think about this place when I am in the area and craving special futomaki.

My husband stumbled across this restaurant recently when he was with some out of town relatives. He said they'd been at Granville Island earlier in the day, and he just did a Google Maps search of nearby restaurants. When he found this one and read the menu, it ticked all the boxes he needed. (Some people wanted cooked food, some people wanted raw sashimi...etc.). So they tried it out and then he raved about it when he came home. So my daughter and I got to try it out with him, and I do think it was an excellent recommendation. The food was soo good here! They have these "Mahawk" dishes were are basically Katsu dishes. He likes the Chick-Mahawk which is chicken. Happily, they have a vegetarian Tofu Mahawk that I could order. Our daughter ordered a Dynamite roll and we all shared a Crispy Unagi Futomaki. Wow! They aren't kidding when they say it's crispy. My only complaint is that you have to order the Crispy Unagi Futomaki in order to eat the crispy unagi. I had not issues with the Futomaki but...the crispy unagi part is the star of the dish, and as we had sooo much food to eat already from our Mahawk dishes...it really would have been nice to be able to order the Crispy Unagi on its own, without the Futomaki roll added to it. Our Mahawk dishes were so big, plus they came with rice and mashed potatoes. So when you add the Futomaki roll on top of all that...uggghhh, sooo full! Too much rice! Only so much rice the tummy can take! The Mahawk dishes were very crispy too. I absolutely loved my Tofu Mahawk. No need to line up at Katsu San or Saku for a good Katsu meal. This place is much easier to get into, the food is just as good...maybe even better, and there's more variety on the menu. You're not limited to Katsu style Mahawk dishes. You can order Futomaki rolls, Sushi, Donburi, noodles...etc. The only thing they don't have at this place, which our daughter might have very much appreciated is an equivalent to Cheese Katsu. Right now, her favorite place for Cheese Katsu is Saku. If this place had some kind of Cheese Mahawk dish, this place might become her new favorite for Cheese Katsu! We were sooo full when we left this restaurant. And we didn't even finish half our food. Came home with plenty of leftovers which was great, cuz it meant no having to cook dinner the following night!

Full of surprises: Appears small from the outside but has a spacious and clean dining area. Attentive servers. A modern twist to Japanese cuisine. Big-portioned, simply-tasty foods. Crispy unagi futomaki is a must-try! Can't wait to try sukiyaki next time we visit~

Very busy place for lunch, great service! I had a very quick lunch here, ordered the spicy salmon roll and avocado roll. Food was good, flavourful. Prices are really good. I told the server that we will only have half an hour so she also helped to rush the order. Much appreciated.

Really nice welcome when I first arrived. No reservation. Got there a few minutes before my friend and they weren't crowded. Told the man who seated me about my friend arriving shortly and he said, "No problem, take your time!" We shared the crispy unagi futomaki and the chili noodles with clams. Both were great. Really enjoyed the unagi as other Yelpers have reviewed. It was indeed tasty and melt-in-your-mouth. We were able to split the bill between our two credit cards without any trouble. My allergies were taken seriously (asked for no dairy in the cream sauce and it turns out that it's just mayonnaise in the clam chili noodles). Would return if in the area!

Yume Dining This hidden gem is in the Olympic Village, Vancouver. It's a comfort chill Japanese restaurant. They have varieties of appetizers, rolls, sashimi, donburi, sukiyaki and pasta. We have tried ... 1. Crisp Unagi Futomaki which comes with a deep fried large Unagi on top of the 10 pieces Futomaki. The Unagi was melted in our mouth .. deep fried crispy battered with umami soft fish meat inside. 2. Assorted Sashimi 18 pieces which comes with Tuna, Salmon, Smoked Salmon, Shrimps , Scollaps, and Toro. Everything is fresh and umami. The wasabi is real authentic fresh made too. 3. Sake Icecream The icecream has a light sake flavored. The texture is like a sorbet. 12th day of christmas
    Nat L.

i spent a relaxing sunday afternoon, around 12:30 pm, catching up with a friend at yume dining, located at 410 west 2nd avenue near olympic village. my friend called ahead to confirm they were open. they assured us it wasn't busy, so no reservations were needed. the restaurant is 'L' shaped and clean, though i wished the tables were spaced a bit further apart. the venue was tastefully decorated with touches of festive christmas decor, still up on the twelfth day of christmas. with the rush and blur of the holidays behind us, it felt like a guilty pleasure to sit back, relax, and enjoy our conversation. one half of the dining room was full and there was a steady flow of diners coming through. the menu was fun to explore, and after some deliberation, we decided to share the winter special, snowy pasta and two futomakis. the snowy pasta was the highlight, garlicky, rich, and creamy pesto topped with a scoop of mashed potatoes for texture and freshly grated parmesan. the presentation was deliberate and playful, with a festive santa pick perched on top of the "snowball" mashed potatoes. it was absolutely delicious and easily the star of the meal. the futomakis were generous and filling: vege futomaki: avocado, kanpyo, sautéed carrot, radish, cucumber, pickled radish, green mix, and house made salad dressing unagi futomaki: grilled unagi, kanpyo, sautéed carrot, cucumber, pickled radish, tamago, and unagi sauce both servers struck the perfect balance of being unobtrusive yet attentive. they ensured our tea cups were topped up repeatedly without interrupting our conversation, quietly checking in and anticipating our needs without hovering. we lingered for about two hours, deep in conversation, and never felt rushed. by the time we wrapped up, we may have been the last diners in our section, though there were still patrons seated in the other part of the restaurant. yume dining was the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely meal and catch up with a friend. the creamy pasta alone is worth returning for, and the festive atmosphere made it feel even more special. unfortunately, they didn't have any sake ice cream available today. this would be a great place for a large group, giving everyone the chance to sample more of the menu. they do serve alcohol, though i'm not sure if they have happy hour.

I don't remember how I found out about this place - possibly Instagram or Daily Hive Vancouver. In either case, I went there with a friend. The space was formerly occupied by a De Dutch, and the layout looks hasn't changed. The space is very minimalist. We decided to try the following: - Spicy Salmon Futomaki - Good. A large serving, so not sure if I could have finished it myself. - Flower Sukiyaki - Good. Nicely presented, it's quite huge, and needs to be shared. Service was good for a quick lunch. For a soft open, I was happy. I was satisfied with my food, service was appropriate for a quick lunch, and I didn't feel it was overly expensive.

VERY GOOD! I found out about this place through TikTok and was amazed by the presentation. I decided to visit and had a great experience. Upon walking into the restaurant, there's a little Japanese zen garden that is very aesthetic--perfect for pictures! The employees were really nice and gave us recommendations. We chose the spicy tuna futomaki and the cold soba noodles. They also provided us with either water or tea. The cold soba noodles paired really well with the spicy tuna futomaki. Each dish was great for sharing, and the futomaki was very satisfying for two people. I would definitely come back again! As for parking, there is street parking on the same side as the restaurant. Overall, everything was amazing, from the service to the food. It's perfect for lunch, dinner, or a group meal. They even have a section of the restaurant for large groups! Rating: * 4/5 Cold Soba: Definitely refreshing and perfect if you're getting anything hot or spicy to refresh your tastebuds. * 3/5 Spicy Tuna Futomaki: The portions are generous, with pieces of tuna on top and slices of cucumber. It has a hint of spiciness, and I would say it's alright in terms of taste. I would definitely want to try the other futomaki options.

The "special" futomaki are a reasonable deal for the money given the neighbourhood. $21.50 for something large enough that you can split if you're not hungry, so $10.75 + tax and tip for a small meal? Not bad. The quality of the sashimi on the special futomaki isn't amazing and the quantity isn't that large (it's mostly rice and veggies) but, for the money, I don't think there's much to complain about.

Yume is a new joint that just started up a month ago. The place is unassuming and rather casual - which isn't a bad thing at all. Service was great, staff were super friendly and extremely attentive. Only thing was it was rather hard to get the bill at the end. It seemed as if everyone went on break at the same time. The food, ultimately, was pleasant. Although they do boast giant futomaki and giant Katsu tomahawks, the food was unfortunately rather bland. Nothing particularly stood out, apart from massive portions, but was nevertheless enjoyable. Prices were also very competitive. Definitely will be back to try their other options on the menu, but this may be a staple for this neighborhood, hopefully to stay for a while!

Great experience at Yume. Stopped by for dinner and got the crispy unagi futomaki and mentaiko pasta. I loved the crispy unagi - great light batter and the scissors was useful in cutting it up to manageable pieces. The pasta was tasty too - loved the garlic taste with the mentaiko. Well portioned. Restaurant was spacious and dimly lit for dinner. Service was attentive and tea was refilled several times.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).
