    Birthday special
    Nelson C.

This place is really nice. It's Japanese BBQ and they give you a $10 Birthday combo (it's free but you have to spend $10.) So basically I bought an extra NY steak and a drink. It was very good! Service was OK. It was interesting how they used a tablet as a menu and you ordered from that. It was pretty self serve that way. I quite enjoyed the space. If you like cooking your own food and eating it, then yes this place is not bad!

Lunch special is an absolute hit. For $17-$20 you can get a DIY grill set. Comes with rice, raw meats, salad, miso soup. There is an additional promotion where posting on social media and tagging Homura gets you a free dish (edamame or potato croquette). Best of all, service was quick and efficient

Delicious Japanese bbq and friendly service. Came here for a friends bday and he got a free set meal! I ordered a lunch set myself and it was very tasty and affordable. The beef udon set was great and came with salad and miso soup. Service was attentive and friendly.

Decided to try this yakiniku place on Oak and Broadway. Still lots of construction around that area, making parking hard to find. The meat cut is good. Service is good. I hope they survive all the construction around that area.

Very clean. Meat came out fast, wasn't a lot of sauce selection available but there were some paid sauce options. We liked that there were a lot of non-marinated meat options to choose from. Don't forget to sign up for their rewards program and check in upon your visit.

What a cool place I found to go for lunch with my friend on my birthday The service was truly exceptional, the food incredibly tasty and the concept of a grill in the middle of the table was fun! The prices were super reasonable and my overall experience was fantastic. I look forward to returning. Thanks to all the lovely staff who made my experience very memorable!!

Came here for their birthday special which allows for 1 set menu. We got the one with the harami, toro beef, and kalbi, and another set with pork belly and ny steak. Meat looks super fresh and I feel the menu is priced well. The toro beef and kalbi were my favorites. The servers were extremely nice and had pleasant atittudes. They even had a free dessert on the house for the birthday person. Such a wonderful place. The biggest downside is the lack of parking. Parking is like $6? for 1 hour I forgot. I wish to come more but it is hard to get to. I think this place would really do well if it was in another location.

Tonight is my birthday and we went to claim my free meal at Homura! Tried their 3 items set A! Got filet, chicken and pork butt for bbq. They also got salad, some appetizer, rice and miso soup! So satisfying! We also ordered other meat, Shiso chicken and Homura sushi are my favourite!!! However, I assume there will be a birthday dessert but seems the staff forgot/ they stop providing... it was a little bit disappointed:(

Guys I highly recommend coming here for lunch (11:30 AM - 2 PM) The lunch combos are amazing and unbeatable We ordered: -Set B (3 BBQ items for 20$): This set came with NY, Flank and Pork Belly. The Flank and Pork Belly were quite good, but I must say I wasn't a big fan of the NY. I didn't love the flavour (or lack thereof-even with the sauce and lemon salt). I also thought it was a bit tough. That being said the other two were quite yummy. -Set D or E (3 BBQ items for 25$-can't remember which set it was but for some reason it's not on the online menu): The cuts in this set were Toro Beef, Rib Finger, and Harami. The meat was such high quality and tasty that it didn't need seasoning imo. Could not recommend this set enough. The lunch set comes with rice, miso soup and salad as well.

Had recently heard of this newer yakiniku spot and figured I'd finally try it during dineout! They're located where the old Gyu-kaku used to be. We ordered one dineout meal for $40 and found out we came in time to get their $20 lunch special too. Ordered the Harami steak, New York steak, Pork Toro and shimeji mushroom dineout set, along with the duck, New York steak and shrimp lunch set. Also ordered their yuzu beer, which was refreshing and paired well with the heavier meats. For dessert we got their coffee jelly and vanilla ice cream (included with dineout) and their deep fried mochi with matcha ice cream. Overall, the meats were all delicious and the grill settings were more intuitive than most and easy to adjust. Our favourites were the new York steak which was perfect when grilled medium rare, pork toro, shimeji mushrooms and the deep fried mochi, which was a delicious end to our meal. The employees were all super friendly and helpful, from changing our salad to accommodate a nut allergy to regularly checking in on us. Probably the best service I've experienced at a bbq place! The place is spacious and wasn't too busy on a weekend afternoon. The value is great, especially for the $20 lunch set which is available every day. Will definitely be back again for their lunch sets and of course their deep fried mochi! :)

Went there for my kids birthday. Very clean inside the restaurant. I would have liked to see the walkway to the restaurant cleaner... cigarette butts and other debris. The service was fast and efficient. I like the table tablet ordering system. They offer a birthday meal. They don't skimp on the meal. My kids enjoyed it a lot. Our meals were great and tasty! Prices were very reasonable. Ambience was nice. Very well upkeep and clean. I will definitely be back!

We were planning on going to Gyu Kaku but didn't realize it's now Homura Yakiniku. The restaurant layout is still the same with comfy booths. They gave us each an apron so we dont get our clothes dirty while bbqing. We placed our order through an ipad and didn't wait long for our food. I like that all the raw food items are labelled so you know exactly which cut of meat you're about to bbq. The only complaint I have is that a lot of the cuts of beef we wanted to order was out of stock.

    Neha A.

I loved the ambiance of this place with the natural light and open feel. The service here was the highlight for me. They calmly explained the menu, offered aprons, filled our waters periodically, checked up on us multiple times and were so friendly. The presentation of how they give you the meat with the labels was super helpful. The seasoned Kalbi rib and Harami were our favorites.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).
