This was an unexpected treat as I was heading along to Hely Hair Studios just up from here. I popped in first for a wee mocha as I had time to spare before my appointment and it was absolutely delicious. The mocha and the friendly service had me hooked so I needed to go back for a wee cheeky lunch. I've heard so much about here so was curious to try. Angela B. and I had tried to attempt a brunch one Saturday but it completely full and there was about a 40 minute wait. We were too hungry and went elsewhere. I think in future we'll book. On this occasion the place wasn't busy so and had plenty of seats to choose from. I opted a wee window seat. It's very bright and airy and there is also a lovely mezzanine area. I decided on a wee pot of tea with the most awesome knitted tea cosy. I couldn't help but look at the quality of the cosy and the type of stitches. I'm becoming such a knit geek. Haha!! I also ordered a baked potato with brie, bacon and cranberry sauce with a side order of fries. It was a Christmas meal treat, I tell thee. I loved it! It was comfort food with a hot cuppa. Not a bad place for brunch. It's light and airy, and there's a mezzanine bit upstairs if you want somewhere a little more intimate. I had mashed avocado with poached egg on sourdough bread, with extra smoked salmon. The portion size wasn't huge, but it was adequate. Coffee was reasonable too. It's a bit pricey for what you get, and a little bit too far form Byres Road to justify those prices IMO, so I don't think I'll be rushing back. But if I happen to be passing and feeling hungry, I'd probably give it another shout. read more

Despite missing breakfast by minutes (and this is definitely a negative, why can't I have Eggs Benedict at 12.10??) we did manage to get a seat outside in the sunshine, which was lucky as it was packed. I drive past the Hyndland Fox every night and it's been mobbed every time I've passed so it's certainly getting the crowds in at the moment! We ordered coffee and tea, I had the smoked salmon and potato salad, Kirsty had a small cheeseboard, both of which arrived in reasonably good time. The smoked salmon and potato salad comes with beetroot, rocket and a half a lemon. It was simple, tasty and whilst the presentation wasn't up to much it hit the mark flavour wise. The cheese board looked good, and I managed to try a little bit of the brie with a dollop of the chutney which was a perfect accompaniment. The service was a little haphazard and slow so I ended up going inside to pay the bill. The interior is lovely, well laid out and much bigger than I realised. I hear it's booked out at the weekend most weeks so bear that in mind if you fancy trying it. I'll be back because it's local but might leave it for a dinner next time - if you are wanting a good breakfast you are better off walking two mins down the hill to the Hyndland Cafe, they serve all day :) Overall a nice space and good food, price wise it's a little on the high side for what we had and the service needs to improve but it's off to a good start! read more

As Michelle M said, there was a lot of branding/promotion of the Hyndland Fox before it opened, and I'd seen lots of tasty looking plates of food so was keen to check it out. We visited for lunch on a roasting hot day, and sat in the mezzanine. This area is really nice - looking down over the restaurant and at the kids running around on the playing area at the school. There wasn't always staff on hand though, so it was easy to feel a little forgotten about. That being said, when they was staff around they were all exceptionally lovely and friendly. I opted for a baked potato and appreciated that gluten free options are marked on the menu. There's a few options for your baked potato: cheddar and coleslaw, tuna mayo, cottage cheese and salmon, or beef chilli. I opted for the salmon and was really, really impressed with the presentation - cut hasselback style and the topping was in a ramekin to the side. Nice! Sadly, the potato was actually quite disappointing - it wasn't seasoned, and the potato was pretty much just mush rather than having any outer crisp or inner fluffiness. The salmon mixture was nice, quite chunky, a very generous portion and there was a nice mix of leaves on the side. For the price (£6.50 for a potato!) I really don't think that they should be dishing up substandard potatoes. When you go to pay the bill, you might notice your card receipt says "The Corinthian Club". Sure, be a G1 venue, but at least admit it and don't try to hide it behind the Peckhams brand. read more

After seeing #followthefox branding pop up over Hyndland (where my boyfriend lives), I've been waiting in anticipation over the restaurant/cafe opening. Hyndland needs new blood and a new brunch spot! I went to HF the day before the grand opening for a 50% off Preview Night that we were invited to. The design of the place is stunning. I love the decor A LOT. The tables are rather small but upstairs they have the most perfect tables for people watching and more room for bigger tables. Downstairs, they have a lovely area for 4/5 people that I'm also DYING to sit in. Moving onto the food and service.... The staff were very friendly and attentive. It was also nice looking into the kitchen as well, for the nosey person that I am. We decided to share a starters of Pigeon and Black Pudding Salad with Pine Nuts and Apple Sauce. It was delicious. The lettuce could have done with a little drizzle of dressing and I do feel that the apple sauce didn't really bring much to the plate but the pigeon and black pudding combination was delicious (and cooked perfectly!). For mains, I ordered the Rump Steak Sandwich with Wild Mushrooms and Tarragon Cream. The waitress asked if I wanted it Pink or Well Done. I asked if it came with fries and she said no, so I ordered a side of the Chilli & Parmesan Fries. A little while later, she returned and said the sandwich came with thin cut fries but told the chef to give me the chilli ones in it's place. The sandwich arrived and it certainly looked lovely however, it was well done which made me a little sad. I didn't say anything to the waitress as I tried a bit of the steak and it was tender and tasted really good. The sandwich as a whole was again, delicious. The fries were a little bit of a letdown. They were skin on hand chopped (which are great, very soft and fluffy too!) however, there was no chilli/parmesan flavour other than a few shavings and a spinkle of chopped chilli that went to the bottom of the little tub. I was expecting the fries to be coated in parmesan crumbs and more chilli. The fries were good though, just wish they had more flavour! My boyfriend ordered the Sweet Potato and Bean Burger. It was a rather large breadcrumbed patty and I tasted a little bit... the flavours were really good but was a little too mushy for me. Ross really enjoyed it though, except his fries were a bit cold. After a short break, I decided to order the Macaroon and Berry Cheesecake. OH MY GOD. It was AH-FRIKIN-MAZING. It was like eating a giant Tunnocks Snowball. Honestly it was one of THE best cheesecakes I've EVER had. EVER. Even though there were a few niggles, I'm excited for this place and can only assume it will get better and better. I really want to try brunch there and probably will this weekend.... so will report back again on that! A friend and I decided to grab a meal out on Sunday night and he suggested the Hyndland Fox. It was pretty quiet, comfortably so and we took a seat upstairs and settled in. A friendly waitress came and took s drink order and dropped off the menus. A short while later drinks were served and our orders taken. My friend had the Sunday roast, and entire mini chicken arrived with all the trimmings, I ordered the Cod and chips and a healthy portion hit the table. It tasted great, well cooked fish, crispy batter and chunky hot chips. £11 for that, yes a bit pricey but this is the west end! I didn't see how much the roast was (reports and lack of eating conversation said it was well tasty!) but the bill was £27.50 for two mains, a nice guest pint and a soft drink. Guess this is about the average these days. The Hyndland Fox is well worth a shot. Nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was fresh, tasty and well cooked and overall the place was just what we were looking for. Will go back for sure! read more

Popped in here this morning for an early lunch with the small person after a busy morning at swimming and realised we hadn't been here for ages. The breakfast menu is the only food they serve till midday - that and pastries, scones, croissants etc - but that was perfect for us. There were plenty of yummy sounding dishes on the menu but not that many kid friendly ones. I asked our lovely waitress if I could have some plain scrambled eggs on toast for A and she said that would be no problem and asked if I wanted the toast buttered or not. I ordered the poached eggs with Black Forest ham and we got a cheeky croissant to munch on whilst the food was being made. The hot food actually came out super fast and was delicious! A wolfed down his creamy eggs and toast and my poached eggs were cooked perfectly. We both left with very happy tummies. I had a flat white - served with a chunk of tablet, I love it when places give you a wee something sweet with hot drinks :) - and it was really good. The waitress brought me the bill and we'd only been charged £2 for A's scrambled eggs on toast which I thought was fab. Too many places charge what I think is too much for kid's portions, so keep up the good work Hyndland Fox! read more

I came here for breakfast, and if there is one thing you need to order it's the Brioche French Toast with maple syrup and bacon because it it a revelation. To me, it has got to be one of the best french toasts' in town! Hands down. The bacon is crispy, the brioche fluffy and tasty with cinnamon. I absolutely love it and I think it would happily eat more of this! The staff is really friendly, and the decor is lovely and fresh and very calming. I ordered a macchiato, upon which I got a really rather strange stare and a slightly flabbergasted response, as this is not something that is ever ordered. Either way, it was exactly the way I like it. It was strong and wonderful. For always I want to recommend this place to everybody with a special mention of the brioche french toast! read more

I absolutely love this place. I first saw the restaurant while I was out walking and noticed how cute the exterior was. I also saw it was packed, which is normally a good sign.My boyfriend semi-jokingly thought maybe it was packed because it was trendy. But I had a good feeling about the place and wanted to try it out. Well, the feeling I had was dead on. Not only is it incredibly charming inside, but the food is delightful. Everything on the menu sounded tasty, which makes it hard for me to pick something because let's face it... I want it all. I ordered a arugula salad with avocado, wild rice, chickpeas, and more deliciousness. It was so good I cleaned my plate. I could have eaten more, but it is a tad pricey so I held back on ordering another dish. Anyway, I highly recommend this place. Oh and I've had nothing but good experiences with the staff - always really friendly which is important to me. read more

Came here for dinner with my boyfriend and a friend after driving past it so many times so we were really looking forward to trying something new! Initial impression was good - we thought the decor was great and simple, nothing too in your face! It was also much larger than what it appears from the outside, we were surprised and impressed. We were greeted by a friendly waitress immediately, which is always a plus - especially since it was quite busy when we got there. The menu was good and it didn't take me long to decide what to have. For my starter I ordered wild mushrooms on toasted brioche which was soo amazing - I would've quite happily ate that all night! For my starter I had a duck shepherds pie, it was accompanied with some roasted carrots and parsnips - which I absolutely hate so I never ate any of it. The portion of the pie was very small considering it was £13, so i expected it to be fairly decent in size with some decent sides. I didn't think it was particularly tasty either, quite bland. So basically my impression of the hyndland fox started off as excellent and ending in disappointment. All the meals on the menu were probably on the more expensive side, and the portions where not that large or that tasty. But it is still newly opened and still have room for improvement. read more

Glasgow may not be the restaurant capital of the world, far from it but it does have its gems. This quaint restaurant in the West end is definitely one of them. My two friends and I, stopped in for a late supper last night and had a great time. It is a quite two floor restaurant with very trendy decor that really sets the atmosphere for a great dinner. I ordered the lamb which was cooked perfectly while my friends had the burger and duck shepherds pie respectively. I tried some of each and they too were delicious. We also had the three cheese Mac to split which was creamy and simple, everything you would expect from a good Mac and cheese. The waitress serving us was incredibly sweet and made the entire night even more enjoyable than it already was. She came to check up on us often and offered great advice on beers to try as well as main courses. Probably one of the best waitresses I've ever had at a restaurant. I will definitely be coming back, especially since we missed out on the Sunday roast, because it ran out. read more

Had a delicious dinner with fabulous friends in the Hyndland Fox (no doubt made all the more rosy by bottles and bottles of spot-on house red....) late last year and have since been back for a brilliant brunch (I'd promise 'no more cheesy alliterations', but that would be a lie). It's such a lovely, bright space and on both occasions we found the staff to be absolute dolls. We dined on the Mezzanine both times... the overhead beams and charming interiors really are a triumph. What I'm most proud of is coercing my brunch-muching companions into taking photos of each of their dishes, to be put away for a momentous occasion... such as the drafting of this review. While they each hated me at the time, I hope you - dear reader - will love me for it. I had the Salt Beef Hash (£6.95) which - from the moment the words left my lips to place the order... I was having taste-bud-driven heart-palpitations over. It was super tasty but the portion was quite small. And I honestly don't think that was just my big bum talking (I hope!?). I felt like my meal was over in fewer forkfuls while everyone else was eating on in blissful brunchy heaven. My pals had the Hot Smoked Salmon (£7.95) and the Smoked Black Forest Ham (£7.45) and my wonderful wife had the Cooked Brekky (£8.95). While part of me was delighted to see her savouring every mouthful, the less lovely (and therefore much larger) part of me secretly hoped she'd offer to trade... She didn't. It's Bank Holiday Monday, and what do you do on a bank holiday? Okay well before going to the pub!...you do brunch, obvs! On my to do list for a while, today's choice was the Hyndland Fox, tucked away in errr, Hyndland! From the outside it appears bright and airy, and the inside is no different. Split over two levels, the ground floor is relaxed and welcoming with several tables, and a comfy sofa with scrabble on the wall in the corner, quirky! Upstairs is a variety of booth style seating and where we were seated. Drinks orders taken straight away and water on the table, we were then left to peruse the brunch menu (about a dozen choices in total, and a nice mixture), and we waited, and waited, and waited...and after some prompting, finally ordered 25 minutes later. Food arrived a short while later; my friend having chosen the hot smoked salmon with poached eggs, sourdough and lemon creme fraiche which in her words, "was delicious" and a very generous portion of salmon! I opted for the black Forrest ham, poached eggs, sourdough and hollandaise, but minus the ham and instead with bacon (which I was aware of at time of ordering so can't complain), again a good size portion but my hollandaise was slightly split, sad face. Being picky I would've preferred my sourdough toasted as the hollandaise left it quite soggy. Having heard such great things I was left a tad disappointed, and think service could do with some attention, but, it was a busy bank holiday after all... read more

This place has polarised opinion (more than almost any new opening I have been around for) amongst my pals. On the one hand, there's the gang super excited about a new swanky all day cafe bar opening in a brilliant west end location and who rave about the food; on the other, there's those who feel its over rated, pricey and/or are concerned about the lack of transparency with patrons about ownership - G1. I had cause to head there for lunch today to check it out for myself along with two other mums with babies. First impressions were great, very friendly welcoming waitress who couldn't have been more accommodating in assisting with buggies, high chairs & chatting to the wee ones. The decor is pleasant and there's plenty of space between tables. I ordered the sweet potato and bean burger in brioche bun, which came with fries, salad, coleslaw & relish. The burger was to die for and the brioche provided a nice sweet contrast. The fries felt slightly over done, but were still fluffy on the inside, which is one thing to be said in their favour. The relish was the perfect accompaniment. I polished off the whole lot. I picked very well! I believe the meat burger was also good, but the bruschetta baguette, not so inspiring. Baby changing facilities were well equipped but sadly I had to politely draw an issue to the attention of the waitress about this area, which doubled up as the disabled loo. I was extremely disappointed to see that despite going to the effort of crafting an really good accessible loo, the staff had stacked about half a dozen high chairs and a Hoover into it rendering it completely inaccessible for wheelchair users or newborns in prams. This is completely unacceptable (not to mention dangerous) in my book and from prior experience, a very humiliating situation for a wheelchair user to have to reverse out and request the stuff to be moved in full view of the restaurant. The waitress assured me that they would move these obstacles, and so if other visiting yelpies could report to staff if they happen notice it recurring that would be great! Overall, I really enjoyed my first outing to Hyndland Fox, and would have given them four stars were it not for the disabled toilet issue. The interior design of the Hyndland Fox is bang on. It's a cool place but welcoming too. It was the design and look of the place that initially made me so keen to try it but I can't shift the feeling of being disappointed. I've visited 4 times now and, don't get me wrong, there's nothing horrendously 'bad' about the place - I think it just doesn't live up to my expectations (which were perhaps too high!?) I've sampled the breakfast (slightly flavourless and the mushrooms were ruined by the addition of parsley!! I know that's personal taste but it wasn't to my liking), the macaroni cheese (perfectly edible but nothing special) and numerous coffees. The cake selection consists of mainly pastries which, to me, don't even constitute proper cakes! The rest of the menu is pretty standard and not particularly adventurous (again, perhaps my expectations were too high!?) I do have friends who rave about their French toast with bacon though. In fact, The Foxes' FTwB as it's become known is pretty 'famous' amongst our friendship group! Some of the staff are friendly, others a bit disinterested. The general atmosphere is pretty nice and relaxed though. Overall, I guess the morale of this story is - don't expect too much and The Hyndland Fox won't disappoint! read more

I just love this place. Whenever we are in Glasgow it is one of our favourite places to eat. The place is modern and spacious with a spectacular mezzanine floor and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is fantastic - whenever we have eaten there it has been delicious. The vegetarian full Scottish breakfast is awesome and definitely worth trying even if you are a meat eater. Lunch is great too with a good selection for all tastes. read more

Popped here for a lunch/meeting today and the place was really busy - just a regular Tuesday lunchtime, just about sunny enough to sit outside. So there was a buzzing atmosphere and lots of full tables. Unfortunately, the food didn't match up. I ordered the crab omelette which was pretty small, and ludicrously overcooked. It wasn't soft like an omelette should be (folded over optimistically, yet it had evidently been under the grill to cook it to death before that) and it was pretty rubbery. Why put lovely large chunks of an expensive ingredient like crab in a dish like this - it's so simple, so easy to get right - and then massacre it? It was expensive too for the size. No one came to ask if our food was OK. It came with a tiny tangle of rocket leaves and two small dry char grilled pieces of baguette. Why do places do this? The last thing decent bread needs is a row of blackened lines across it. Either toast it or just leave it as bread! It's not like there's a shortage of decent bakeries in the vicinity. There was nothing to put on it/dip it into. Both the omelette and bread were as dry as a bone. For this, I paid £9. The service was also really haphazard, and seemed to get worse towards the end of lunch as the place emptied out. Basically, this place doesn't have to try. It's on a prime location in Hyndland with outdoor seating, is kiddie friendly, spacious and airy. It sells coffee and sandwiches and for people to stop coming, the food would have to be inedible. read more

Came in for a few drinks on its second night of opening. Good to see Williams Bros on tap and Camden and some American imports by the bottle. Food looks good; one of our party had the burger and then the cheesecake which both went down well. Bit dismayed at the price of drinks (£4 a pint) but given the lead of Epicures up the road that's not a surprise. I went for lunch here today on a very busy Saturday. When we arrived there were no tables but we decided to wait. Many people arrived and decided not to stay so if you're planning a weekend brunch or lunch here it would probably be a good idea to book. Apparently they were also short of staff that day and one waiter was doing his best to do everything including seating people, clearing tables and taking orders. I decided to have the rump steak and wild mushroom sandwich which came on a ciabatta with a creamy tarragon sauce. I also added skinny fries for an extra £2. The sandwich was very tasty with plenty of steak and mushrooms though I'd have prefered if the meat was chargrilled for extra flavour. The fries were perfect, really crispy and the portion would be enough for two to share. The interior of the place is nice but on this day they were playing really loud music and with all the people talking you had to almost shout to have a conversation. It felt more like an evening in a bar than a Saturday lunchtime. The prices are a little high but nothing unusual for the West End. I'd like to go back here and try the chorizo and manchego salad but I'll probably choose a quieter day during the week. read more

I didn't really want to go here as it's a G1 Hellzone but in fairness Hyndland has needed a place like this as Epicures and Nicks have a grip on "casual dining" and Epicures at least isn't top notch. I had a veggie burger (cannellini beans and coriander) and the mrs had a generous portion of macaroni cheese, both tasty and £8 each which was good value. Service was quick and cheerful. Food disappointing - especially given the hefty prices - service the worst we've seen in a while! We definitely won't be back. Despite having booked a table we were left waiting for at least 5 minutes before anybody talked to up. Staff passed but ignored us. Once we were seated we were promised crayons to go with the child's table setting / drawing paper. They never arrived for the over 2 hours we were there. We were not told that the scampi were off the menu until we tried to order them. The scrambled miso tofu didn't even take the least bit of miso nor was the tofu scrambled, just barely squashed together with the supposedly roasted vegetables, that were cooked to a mush but definitely not roasted. I was served fries with that, which I had specifically declined when asked. They took those of the bill, without me having to insist, at least. The Salt Beef Brisket Sandwich was also disappointing especially given it's £9 (!) price tag - that's without the chips. The companion who ordered the Steak Sandwich wasn't asked how she wanted the steak cooked, but she just got it charred on the outside and raw on the inside. The kid's fish and chips turned out to be a plate of fries with a small piece of fish on the side. Not a single time did anybody ask whether our food was OK, not during the meal, not when we ordered coffee & desserts, not when we paid. Whenever we tried to get some attention we had to wait at least 10 minutes before the one person in the place that seemed to be willing to take orders or request was located and deign to deal with us. This is while all along other staff were clearly standing around chatting. Please note, the place was not full when we arrived, it was Sunday lunchtime so the staff compliment should have been a full one and for all we know it was. However at no point was there any apology for making us wait, only sighs and snorts when I actually dared to request milk with my pot of tea! As you can imaging the Hyndland fox is not a place we'll be returning to. It location gives it a captive audience, but that doesn't excuse shoddy and glacially slow service, particularly when the food it mediocre at best. read more

Oh my gosh! Just finished my meal here and it was AMAZING! First of all, the decor and the lighting is really cute and quaint and there's not a bad seat in the house. I chose the steak with peppercorn sauce and chips and it was spectacular! Really juicy and tender and just cooked to perfection. And the peppercorn sauce was AMAZING! For dessert I got the red velvet cake and it was a large portion but absolutely delicious. Will be coming back more often! read more

love this place they do great veggie food and it's got a great vibe. staff can be a bit hard to get hold of and it's defo west end prices!
