The main ingredient in it was tequila. The drink was ok but, just a little too on the sweet side for me. For my food order was a small dark meat jerk chicken with extra jerk sauce with white rice. I wanted white meat but, they were all out. As we sat there waiting on our food I have say they were pretty busy from customers whom had placed pick up orders. There were only a few people actually dining in. I was a little disappointed because I thought they would be playing some Caribbean music but, they were not. There is also a pool table if you like to play pool. The barmaid was friendly and attentive. The food didn't take too long to come out. Let me tell you the jerk chicken did not disappoint. It came with a side of curry sauce and barbecue sauce. I wasn't a fan of the curry sauce but, that barbecue sauce was definitely a hit on my jerk chicken and rice. Our expectation was to get a few drinks and get something to eat. We arrived to realize the space has been renovated yet again moving the main bar in the middle of the main floor. The tables had red signs indicating what table numbers they are which gave us the impression that a server would be over to take our order. NOPE! We sat there for about 30 mins before approaching the bar closest to the bathroom to ask if someone would be taking our order and ran into the owner who seemed to have an attitude. He said everyone was busy and that we would have to place our order at the bar. We stood there trying to process the fact that there was no servers for an advertised day party. This was an immediate turn off and I wanted to leave and go somewhere else at this point but we were so hungry so we decided to stay. We placed an order for our food and drinks and paid the bill which of course included gratuity. The bartender made our drinks which were only prepared 3/4 full so we didn't even get a decent drink. I wrote our table numbers on the receipt as we were never asked for that information. The food came out about 15-20 mins later. We all got the catfish. I got two sides, yams with collard greens but I got green beans instead. I didn't even bother saying anything given the lack of care and service we had already experienced. The catfish and the yams were good but the green beans were a bit on the salty side. While DJ Biskit was on point as alway, I have no plans on returning to this place anytime soon. Why have it out if you not ready to serve it? Anyway, the party atmosphere is what won me over. The DJ was everything. By the time we left brunch, it was the beginning of the day party and we were so lit. Sugar Ray's is definitely somewhere I would do brunch again.

I came once before for a show and I had a great time! But…read morerecently I had a bad experience that left me feeling dark and empty, like the cycle of the moon was causing everyone around me to radiate negative and hateful energy. The interaction forced me to go home and watch Mr. Bean's holiday to remind me that there is good in the world. I came in at 1:15 which is late but the door was open and there was a DJ in the back playing music and like 7 people at the bar. The bartender was chatting with two people at the bar so I walked up. And the bartender gave me the dirtiest look that made me question if I had known him as a child and did something wrong to him because he looked at me like I was his number one enemy. Then he said "yeahhh we're like ..... getting ready to be done....." and I said "okay is there time for one drink? Or did you already do last call" Then he just kept looking off and said yeah no. We're done. And I said okay! No problem. I was curious what was happening in the back like if it was a DJ or karaoke or what because I hadn't seen the set up before and like I said I like this place for shows. I was just genuinely curious and I was preparing to leave no matter what but like F SAKE can a girl not ask a bartender a question about the establishment??? Again he looked at me like we had ancestral beef, like he had been hating me and my families bloodline for years. And he just kind of ignored me. And said something like "you can't just go back there and hangout" and I said "I know, I was just asking. I thought it might have been karaoke or open mic I didn't know you guys did that here" Then he ignored me. Like I was not trying to hangout and get a drink after he already told me no I was just curious because if there was karaoke I'd like to come back for it!!!! You could go there" And idk how to explain but it was in the most condescending way ever, like you don't belong here or like she was talking to me like I was 5 years old?? The drinks are all well and you should not expect a drink anything faster than a beer or a well drink. I really liked how empty it was and the music was really made for us.
