I suppose both the good and the bad about Skate City is that it hasn't changed one bit since the 90s when I would come here with my elementary school friends and request that the DJ play spice girls on repeat. Biggest difference? no DJ, just loud speakers playing hits. The music did slap though. I was here for, you guessed it, an elementary school skate party. Alas, life has come full circle. It was my daughter's first skate party and I was happy to see they had these walkers you could use if you are learning. She really took to it and had a BLAST with her friends. Now, sure, Skate City is not fancy and it could probably use a bit of a facelift. What I do appreciate though, is that it's pretty affordable and a fun way for kids to get some exercise and play. Yes, the food is very meh, and yes the restrooms could and probably should be upgraded, BUT it was overall pretty clean, just old. To me, it felt like travelling back in time and since the food cost was low I didn't mind cheap concession fare for the evening. All in all you've got to just lean into the vibe of the space to have fun, and you should have fun, it's an old school skating rink!

One big let down were the lack of larger tv screens outside. There might be 1-2 smaller screens outside but they weren't visible. We planned to dine in and sat at one of the tables right in front of the TV, it almost felt like the TV was just for us - the table was that good. We ordered fried pickles, chorizo queso as appetizers and they were fantastic. We ordered a beer and Diet Coke alongside. Pickles stood out in flavor, umami, perfectly fried, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Queso was tasty but the flour chips it came with were ok. For our mains, I ordered a chicken quesadillas with grilled corn along with the showme burger. Quesadillas were grilled perfectly with juicy chicken, lots of melted cheese with a crispy golden tortillas. The grilled corn was sweet, Smoky and had a creamy cheesy spicy layer of sauces on the top of it - Lecker!! The Show Me burger was sooo good and high quality that it could be the official Missouri state burger - tender juicy patty with a sauce (similar to in and out sauce) inside soft hamburger buns - emmmmm!!! I was really surprised because the food out here is really great and priced right!! the main dishes were around $13-$14 each and the appetizers were a bit lesser around $10-$11. Overall, the staff was really sweet and they all were working hard to keep the restaurant clean and serve the customers faster. I will be coming in to try the rest of the food and also to play some Pickleball here and I would recommend you all do the same!!

The rink is in good condition. The place was reasonably clean given the amount of kids that run through there. The music was age appropriate and fun. The skates were in fair condition but are all well used. They have those wheeled skate walkers for younger kids who don't know how to skate yet. But be warned that in a big group, those run out fast. While they also have a few video games, claw machines, etc., those cost a ton for what you get. Better to spend your money on a slice of pizza and the skating imho. Overall, the kids have a blast and always want to go back.

This was not a good roller skating experience, and I've been to a lot of different rinks. 8? 10?…read more This was the lawless rink. I've never been to a rink where they didn't have one or more staff members skating on the rink to ensure safety and enforce rules. They didn't have any staff members anywhere near the rink. And they needed them! I hope they have good insurance! (though they had us sign a waiver before entering, which is the only time I've experienced that at a rink.) It wasn't crowded on the Sunday afternoon that we went, but it was really hard to skate. One kid going the wrong way around the rink, kids and *adults* cutting across the rink instead of going in an oval. One young teen stealing the skate assist device from his younger siblings and then zig-zagging across the rink while they tried to chase him to get it back. One guy doing his dance moves across the path of traffic - dude, go in the middle or a corner! One man standing in the path of traffic doing things on his phone. And then the usual of kids cutting across. The rink also doesn't have a wall around it, which means at any moment someone might decide to cut across as they enter or exit the rink. I'm a good skater, but multiple times I had to skate off of the rink to avoid crashing into someone behaving badly. It made it so not fun. And when people fell down, there was no staff to check they were ok or help them up like at other rinks. I would have given it one star, because I really just didn't want to stay (and I often stay for multiple hours at rinks), but there were some good things. The floor was good, and the price wasn't bad. There were plenty of places to sit. Music was decent though loud. There was a separate little rink for beginner skaters. We were there for the second half of an afternoon session and there were no games or couples skate or anything, and I didn't see any way to request your favorite song. I had to try 3 times to get a decent rental skate (first time they gave me the wrong size, second time one skate had a wheel loose), and the laces were messed up still. There are rinks that are more fun.

I love it when an ice rink is packed, but the killer part was the lack of using the zamboni. I know times are very short (1pm - 3pm that day) but the ice was too rough to skate on at certain points. It would be nice if they did 1pm to 3:30pm or 4:00pm so the ice could be resurfaced mid-way. Other than that small detail, there are plenty of training "wheels" if you are new to skating (mainly for kids). Good exercise and they play great music!

We were here for a youth hockey tournament, which was fun and we'll managed. The locker rooms are run down and too small, there also seemed to be a shortage of bathrooms and showers. It was a little crowded and the metal bleachers weren't really heated. Dress warm, but plan on having a great time if you are here for a tournament.
