Tasy food from a humble kitchen. Mentor seems like sort of a random place to find Northern Indian comfort food, but it's worth the trek. We were greeted on a fairly slow night by a brightly lit, clean dining room. The staff let us pick whatever table we wanted, so of course we chose a comfy booth seat by the window, next to the ice cream freezer. Furnishings are simple, and ambiance isn't particularly exciting, but the moment we opened the menu my mouth was watering. My friend and I started with Chicken Momos, a lovely Nepalese dumpling perfectly spiced and accompanied by a tomato-ey dipping sauce. This was the first time he had seen Paneer Bhurji and Tandoori Chicken Melai Kebab on a menu around these parts, so of course we had to try these. Both were a little different than the ones he's had in Gujarat before, but still supremely satisfying. The chicken in the Melai Kebab is actually already removed from the kebab stick, saving you the work, and much saucier owing to extensive marination in a yogurt and cashew cream, which they then slathered over the meat with various herbs. It was unique, but I actually found the chicken in the Chicken Biryani even more tender. You can alter the spice level of your dishes, but the Biryani still packed the most heat. Their version of Paneer Bhurji is also much more wet, a gravy that is incredibly comforting to eat with rice or their delicious roti, rather than the scrambled egg consistency you might find elsewhere. We did some considerable damage between the two of us, but still had a decent amount of food left over for another meal. Great value considering the quantity and quality of dishes. Come hungry, and you won't be disappointed.

We had called them up to check if they'd be open as it was almost time to close for the afternoon. They asked how many we were and waited for our party of three. The place has a nice homely Indian decor, colorful yet not too flashy and a lot of booths which is more convenient for a family. We ordered the paneer makhani (ie butter paneer) and garlic naans and both were perfectly cooked. My mother who's really fussy about her food liked it too! My wife had taken a chicken biryani and l tasted a spoonful... no complaints there either! Also there's a small bar if you choose to have some drinks to go with your food. My mother doesn't like cold water so they actually warmed it to room temperature and served it to her.

We were welcomed with a delicious smell as soon as we walked in, but was surprised to find that we were the only guests there. As such, service was quick, and the man who served us was very nice. My mango juice was delicious, the rice and shrimp curry hit the spot, and the naan was unique. I didn't get to try my husband's biryani because he ate it all, but he said it was really good. Definitely try this place for a unique, local, small business with delicious food.

We ordered takeout and I was so excited since I love Indian. When we arrived the food was not ready and the place was dimly lite and completely empty. It was over lunch time so I was concerned when it was empty. We paid and took the food home to eat. Both dishes we got were oddly colored and had little to no meat. The rice was horrible, the sauce had no flavor. It honestly was inedible. I took one bite and spit it out. It smelled weird and rancid, and was so awful I feared we would get food poisoning. This place should be shut down, Dingy dark, the back room is filled with trash it looks like. Oh and besides inedible food you pay a lot for the food you get it's overpriced. Something feels extremely off and I've never had an experience this bad before. To not be able to eat the food it's so disgusting, is ridiculous!

The door is wonky though...super heavy and opens weird. They have a lot of different options and premade bowls. For someone who is not very familiar with Indian food, this place makes it easy to customize and try out stuff. Nothing was too spicy or too overspiced, thankfully. Everything tasted relatively fresh but the portions are too small for the price. It's not like at Chipotle or Cilantro where they fill up your bowl. I almost never finish my portion in one sitting but I had no problem doing so here. I wish there were more veggie toppings and not just pickled ones. Scallions and cilantro would be great options to have. The mango lassi was delicious but so small. The inside is high ceilinged, spacious and has plenty of seating. The big group bench in the middle had such heavy and had awkward block seats. They were hard to get in and out of and were so uncomfortable.

For date night, my boyfriend and I enjoyed a massive and authentic dinner for about $50, including tax and tip. Our food was clearly made with love from the namesake, "Desi mama," who personally waited on us and cooked our delicious dinners. My bf and I ordered kashmiri naan (a fruit, nut, and coconut naan - get this!!) and two orders of thali, (one chicken and one lamb), which is basically a generous sampler of delicious Indian food and meat curry. We loved everything, although the mango pickle was a little tough and we think the yogurt would have been better if it was a rice or tapioca yogurt instead of plain, but overall, Desi Mama gets a 9/10! We had more than enough food for yummy leftovers the next day. I am planning on getting dinner here again this weekend :) support local!

I've never had Indian food before, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect or what to order--but everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The ambience of the restaurant is very welcoming and fun, making it a great spot to try something new. For appetizers, we had Lasuni Gobi, which is crispy cauliflower tossed in a garlic chili sauce with bold Indo-Chinese flavors. It was really tasty, though definitely on the spicier side. We also tried the Vegetable Samosa, the crispy pastry with spiced potatoes was really interesting burst of flavor. For our main meal, we went with Chicken Tikka Masala, which was grilled chicken in a creamy tomato sauce with aromatic Indian spices. Paired with Garlic Naan and served with a side of rice, it was absolutely comforting and flavorful. Everything we tried was fantastic, and the staff were welcoming and helpful, especially since it was my first time trying Indian cuisine. Our server was very attentive and helpful with suggestions on what to order. Marsala Monsoon is definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're curious about Indian food or just want a fun, flavorful meal!

This year's birthday outing took us to northern shores, thundering waterfalls and Masala Monsoon! We arrived hungry after hiking at CVNP. Very strikingly pretty decor! We loved the free crunchy snacks and fresh mint chutney. We started with the Lasuni Gobi appetizer, a fried cauliflower in chili sauce that rocked both our worlds. We wanted to try the Velvet Broccoli, another vegetarian dish, but alas it somehow came contaminated with chicken. Thankfully, the staff rectified the situation and we got a second order of the incredible Lasuni Gobi instead. I had a new-to-me curry, the Lababdar paneer, which was utterly delicious and perfectly spiced. We shared the bread basket and bestie had a mild veggie curry. We were treated to the Gulab jamun for dessert on the house. Love the romantic decor, awesome grub and friendly helpful service. We will be back!
