I have to give credit - sort of - to a nearby Hampton Inn, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy a stay at The Inn On Broadway. I had originally considered the Hampton, and 15 days before my arrival in Rochester, I discovered The Inn. It had a comparable price but maybe not as much breakfast choices. Two days later, when I went to make my reservation at the Hampton, I discovered that they raised their room rates 15% since the last time I checked... supply and demand on their part I guess. Well, that made The Inn rate more than competitive, and the obvious choice for my stay. The Inn does offer a light continental breakfast, but they offer some things I wouldn't have gotten elsewhere. One was the charm of an older building with nice renovations. My room had more "character" than I would have had otherwise, and that included a large antique bathtub and a gas fireplace. Every person with whom I interacted was incredibly friendly and helpful. Vanni's Lounge downstairs was fun as well (separate review). And I got a slight discount for having a 3rd night in my reservation on a weeknight. I think that was a fair trade-off for missing out on a few Honors points. read more

Recently enjoyed a delightful stay at The Inn on Broadway. Truly, what a gem of an inn. I was traveling for work and was meant to fly from White Plains to Rochester mid week. However, the stormy weather had my flight delayed, delayed, delayed. Seeing that I'd be pulling into Rochester later and later, I decided to see about driving. This got me to Rochester earlier in the evening but I was pooped. The Inn on Broadway offered a warm welcome after a hectic day of travel. They have easy parking very close to the entrance (felt very safe). They offer valet if you're heading there for the restaurants but they don't valet for guests of the inn. Again, not a big deal because the parking is so convenient. The lobby is gorgeous. I was there during the holidays and it was tastefully decorated and brought the festive vibes. The woman at the front desk was excessively kind and got me all checked in. I was tired and really just wanted to order deliver (doordash etc) to my hotel room. I wasn't certain if this was ok with the restaurant in house but fortunately, she assured me it was fine and even hand delivered my door dash order to my room (in addition to giving me recommendations for a garbage plate, a Rochester specialty--I still haven't had one but my next visit I'm determined!) My room was completely comfortable. It was the perfect size to feel cozy without being too small. There was a window seat by the window which offered a nice view of the city. I love that they have Aveda shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower (as well as lotion and hand soap by the sink). Aveda is top notch and it's nice not to sacrifice quality hair care while traveling. I honestly have nothing but the best things to say about my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. I stayed at The Inn on Broadway for three nights while in town performing at the Rochester Fringe Festival. It was so comfortable and charming! The room I was in had a huge walk-in shower and a separate bath tub that felt closer to a small swimming pool. I was in and out a lot over the weekend and only heard short bits of the musical acts they had playing in the jazz lounge, but they all sounded great. Enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea as a gift from my daughter in law. Very much looking forward to returning.

Still a nice experience, but renovations are underway to bring the hotel back to it's pre-COVID quality. We had a clean and well-furnished 3rd floor standard king room. A few concerns included no deadbolt or latch to secure the standard key type room door. Who knows if a previous guest walked with a key. The bathroom sink had a large radiating crack, but did not leak. The hot water had to run 10 minutes in the morning per front desk instruction to be hot enough for a shower. In that regard, the room still had a tub with a high edge requiring careful entry since there was no grab bar. Staff was friendly especially a newly hired housekeeper and the morning front desk clerk. For early check-in, the was no valet or bellhop to help. No real breakfast available in the hotel, just muffins and coffee in the lobby. No morning room service. We hope things improve. read more

Such a cute place!! I received a dine and stay package for a one night stay last weekend. This inn is very cozy! The decor is traditional in the lobby as well as in the rooms. The only modern thing are the bathrooms in the suites.There is a very nice steak house named Tournedos off of the lobby. Would also highly recommend!! The wait staff is very attentive. My better half and I enjoyed a very relaxing stay in the luxury suite. The jacuzzi tub was amazing since the house we live in doesn't have a soaker tub and I LOVE taking baths. I felt like a queen! They also provide robes. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've experienced in a hotel setting. The pillows were so soft and so dope! The kitchenette includes a Keurig and 3 cups (2 regular and 1 decaf). Also, there is a sink, microwave, full silverware, mini fridge, and cabinets. The staff was friendly and inviting. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere was perfect for Christmas. Everybody raved about the food and I'll be dreaming about the baked mac and cheese for the rest of my life. Sara was a fabulous coordinator and a wonderful person. Many thanks to all the staff, the servers and bartenders were amazing all night. Honeymoon suite was AWESOME. I was attending a reception for an art exhibit at the Rochester public library and stayed two nights at this little hotel. I found everything to be near perfect, at least by the standards that I appreciate in a hotel. As opposed to the large mega-hotel chains this is a small, charming and very quiet inn. It's very clean and nicely decorated in a style that befits its historic roots. The staff was very helpful when I needed help. The bed and linens were very comfortable, plus they have a top quality restaurant (Tournados Steakhouse) and bar downstairs too. I would do finely return next time in Rochester. read more

We just held our daughter's wedding at the Inn on October 8. There aren't enough superlatives. The hotel rooms allowed our big families to hang out all weekend PLUS we held a fabulous post-wedding breakfast for everybody. What do you get if you have your wedding at the INN? Not just the best food around, but a setting that isn't just beautiful when you're there, but wait till your pictures come back. We recently had our wedding at the Inn (former University Club). The personal level of service and attention to detail was outstanding. We had both the ceremony and the reception in the Grand Ballroom. Jessica and Alyssa were our planners and they almost took a personal interest in making our wedding the best it could be. They offer wedding guests group room discount rates which are comparable to a budget hotel. Our out-of-town guests were impressed and had a good time exploring the East End neighborhood during their stay - oh, and they threw in a Honeymoon suite at no charge as well! The price was reasonable, food outstanding! Let me tell you about the building if you have never been there, it is a beautiful old 19th century building. This in combination with the fantastic service and food, made for a nearly perfect wedding. Over the course of a year, we dropped by the Inn to check out the Ballroom with different vendors and family members to show them the venue. PROS: Friendly inn and restaurant staff, easy-to-use jacuzzi, essential oil diffuser w/lovely aroma, king-sized bed with great bedding, kitchen area stocked with tableware and coffee-maker (also microwave and larger-than-average mini fridge), extra wall-mounted mirror in bathroom w/second side magnified. CONS: No bright lighting choice or white noise fan in bathroom, TV only about 32" inches, shower head small without any extras (it's a large shower room, so I expected a rain shower-head and/or handle--pretty lame), no tissue box provided in bedroom or bathroom, pocket door on bathroom difficult to close and/or lock, no (visible?) switch on electric fireplace. Parking was awkward; The valet started to take our keys and get into car before asking if we were staying the night, so then we had to get back in our car and park it ourselves. SUMMARY: Excellent downtown location for one or two-night, quiet and romantic stay. read more

I attended a beautiful wedding here last night so this is judged on that alone(I did not stay here). The staff was very attentive and friendly! The decor was beautiful. The bartenders were very efficient and the wine selection was decent. They offered a coat check which was much appreciated on a cold winter night. A few other guests and myself wish that there was some signage showing where the wedding was held since we had never been there before. The food was delicious! Really love staying here on my trips to Rochester. In fact, I think it sets the tone of my entire visit and makes it a thumbs up affair all around. Particularly during the Winter months their cozy rooms and comfy beds are hard to resist while in the summer it's so well located for walking around town in the sun. The building itself dates back to 1929 when it was the University Club still boasting a banquet hall and spacious lobby. And because they only have 25 guest rooms, it maintains an intimate feel like you're staying at a B&B. Well, I guess it would be a boutique luxury B&B but still, you get the point. And yes, I said luxury so expect terrycloth bathrobes, Egyptian cotton sheets and towels, fancy soaps... plus free parking and WiFi. Score! The restaurant in the hotel, Tournedos, is also one of the finest in the area. Prepare your pocketbook beforehand though, as you'll likely spend as much on dinner as you did on your room. Highly recommend staying here when you visit ROC - there's no better accommodation for many miles. read more

Had my vintage themed wedding here. Chose it because the back drop is so elegant/lovely that there was minimal need for additional decorations and they have an in-house event coordinator. The fireplaces made a fall wedding feel cozy. For a very reasonable rate, we hosted a seemingly luxurious wedding here. 2 great perks: 1) there is only one ballroom so your party is the only major event of the evening 2) the bride & groom get a free night at the hotel to crash in luxury. Perfect! And, the food is cooked by the high end steakhouse downstairs. Delicious! The only down side - they went through 3-4 event planners in the year I was planning my wedding... The official hotel was the strathallan and I'm really glad it was sold out otherwise I'd have never found this place. * rates- super reasonable for the area! *location- just off the inner loop (broadway between east and broad) had a tough time getting there but that's just cause the east end festival had most streets around there blocked off *room- cozy and nice, closet space was available in a large armoire, but if you had more than a few things to hang up it was tight * robes, toiletries, towels, etc.- fantastic for a small inn. I stay at a lot of expensive hotels and I was really impressed with the quality of the extras * common areas- there are little lounge areas by the stairwell on a couple floors loaded with books, so if you want to read/work late and don't want to wake up your sig o these are perfect, and they also have pretty good wifi coverage * staff- amazingly helpful with directions and suggestions, a good part of why I liked the hotel Overall you can't beat this hotel if you're staying downtown, it's a quick walk to the bars on east and on park, it's close to the museums, and it's an easy trip off the freeway. I feel like my grandma would love to stay here. I mean that in the best possible way. The BEST possible way. It's cozy, it's quiet, it's lovely and they even have a ladies parlour...? I'm neither fancy enough or ladylike enough to visit said parlous, but perhaps in the future I can make time. The Good: -The beds are SO comfortable. As in these beds eat the Westin's "heavenly beds" for breakfast. -Bathrooms are incredibly clean and modern -Breakfast is included in the daily rate and features lots of buffet items - a few quiches, toast, cereal, yogurt, pastries, hard boiled eggs and more. -Kitchenette in my room hosted a dishwasher, sink, cabinet space and a Keurig with a nice array of hot cocoa and coffee for the drinking -Very friendly staff -WiFi is free and stable The Meh: -The walls are almost paper thin - I heard my neighbor showering and hosting a conference call -There are actual keys to each room (not cards). This seems fine but if you're extra anxiety ridden about security, you may worry just a touch. -Since this is a boutique hotel (and a beautiful one at that) you won't find the typical accommodations like room service, wet bar or workout facility. I get that this is a cute hotel with older features, but would not stay again. The rest of the wedding party raved about their rooms, and we had high hopes. The shower pressure sucked and the bed was so noisy! People must of thought we just jumped around all night. Breakfast was weak at best. They did awesome with the wedding reception we attended. This review is for attending a wedding as I did not eat at the restaurant or stay overnight. My cousin had his ceremony and reception here and it was a fantastic event. The ceremony went very smoothly as the staff seemed very attentive to detail. The bartenders were nice and quickly fixed my drink when it was realized that the "gun" had tonic hooked up to the soda button. The passed appetizers were nice and hot and the meat/cheese/hummus/olive spread was as delicious as it was magnificent. Dinner was served hot and the steak was cooked to perfection. I am still not sure exactly what was in the sauce, but if anyone finds the recipe, please let me know as it was great. Super fun wedding at a nice event space for a smaller gathering. read more

Terrific little hotel....not really a B&B...more hotel amenities. Charming history of the building...rooms are very nicely appointed with a mixture of older existing furniture pieces...and newer upper market hotel type furnishings. Beds, linens, towels....were of the highest order...and that means a lot to me. Bathroom was very nice sized..walk in shower....impeccably clean. Room had a platform with a larger soaking tub...very nice. Gas fireplace in room was a welcome touch. Bar is very nice..with excellent staff and bartenders...of whom "Jackie" is the only name I recall. Staff was very professional without being stuffy...perhaps not as trained as at the Ritz...but...personable and sincere. Cannot recommend this hotel enough...just nothing else in Roch is as pleasant and as a good a location to most businesses...entertainment..etc. BEWARE !! The damn city closed down nearby streets for festivals (St. Pattys, East End Festival)....and of course...the very friendly city cops couldn't care less that the streets are blocked and you can't get to your hotel. "Excuse me sir....may we get by the barricade to get to our hotel ?" cop..."No..move on"....us... "we need to get to our hotel to get medicine".....cop..."tough, move on pal..unless you want to spend the next few hours in jail". O.K...so we drive around to approach from another corner/angle....again..."Please let us by to get to our hotel"....cop..."you will have to wait until the festival is over".......us...."but..the young lady needs her medicine..it has to be taken at a specific time ".....cop...."to damn bad...you should have picked a hotel in a better location....move on or get towed and go to jail " Rochester public officials....listen up....go to Indianapolis and see how traffic is managed...oh...say around Memorial day. .....of course....I should have known there would be a festival that would block off one of the more (possibly most) expensive hotels in the area....and I should have known those responsible for the safety and well being of EVERYONE....would be bereft of any compassion or common sense and would prevent someone from getting important medicine. Naturally when spending boat loads of money over the weekend I should have known everything about traffic patterns...and stayed at a hotel that wasn't in the midst of a dying downtown that the inept leaders of Rochester are trying to promote and redevelop. read more

I enjoyed the classic feel, but it feels dirty and dusty. My carpet in my room was worn and old. The front desk staff was friendly but distracted upon arrival and departure. Touranados was great. Enjoyed a nice dinner. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy but not too bad. My hotel room over looked a roof and a loud bar below- but what do you expect in a city. read more

The Inn on Broadway was the perfect place for my husband and I to get married. We had a wonderful wedding and the ballroom is absolutely gorgeous. We are still getting compliments and questions on the venue and people have mentioned how classy and beautiful it was. Despite the venue being perfect for our needs, we had both positive and negative experiences with the staff. The Positive: -All-inclusive venue with catering, food tasting, wedding coordination, set up & take down, room block, bridal suite, and valet parking all handled by the Inn on Broadway. -Alyssa was very detailed even in the middle of planning her own wedding! -Alyssa led very comprehensive pre-wedding planning meetings, which helped us feel secure -A comprehensive "Banquet Event Order" document was provided to us which we shared with other vendors so everyone was on the same page -Alyssa and Jessica coordinated our sparkler send-off effortlessly -My husband and I were allowed to eat apart in our bridal suite during the cocktail hour The Negative: -Before our final wedding meeting with Alyssa (pre-wedding), we were supposed to receive the ballroom table layout to map out the seating arrangement, but we received that document less than an hour before the meeting so we didn't have a chance to complete it or work through it with the coordinators. We completed it after the meeting only to find out that the layout diagram only included 14 tables instead of the 15 tables we agreed to. I had to draw in a 15th table, not knowing where it would be set up, and we never got to see a 15-table layout. Because of this, on the actual wedding day my parents ended up being seated farther away than I had wanted and they were disappointed. -Alyssa arrived late on the day of our wedding. (The night before at the rehearsal she told us she'd be in at 11:00am the next morning, but we couldn't find her until much later even after asking the front desk and other staff). When Alyssa did arrive, she didn't let us know and we only found out when we ran into her setting up. This was disappointing because we had some logistical questions and we were really relying on her to arrive when she said she would. -While Alyssa and Jessica were setting up our decorations in the ballroom, I sent some of my bridesmaids in to see how set-up was going. My bridesmaids told me they felt extremely unwelcome when they went into the ballroom and that the coordinators were rude and short with them. I understand the Alyssa and Jessica were under time constraints to get everything set up, but my bridesmaids were my designated girls to check in on things, and since Alyssa had arrived late and not checked in with me at that point I just wanted to make sure that everything was going according to plan. I just wish they had been cordial and kind to my bridesmaids given the situation and the fact that they were just trying to calm the bride's nerves and check in. If the coordinators did not want my bridesmaids to observe the setup process, they could have said so in a respectful way. I care so much about each of my bridesmaids and to have them hurt by an unprofessional attitude on my wedding day was not okay! -When my husband and I ate in the bridal suite during the cocktail hour, our food came late and we weren't able to take extra pictures with our wedding party as we planned to during the last part of the cocktail hour. Recommendations: During the bulk of the ceremony and reception, after the stressors of the morning ended, the day went beautifully and was the most wonderful, memorable day of my life. Nevertheless, I have to be honest that the morning of the wedding was pretty stressful because of the lack of communication from the coordinators which could have completely been avoided! Therefore I would recommend that future brides communicate really well with the coordinators about their expectations for the wedding morning so both parties can be clear on arrival times and check-in times, as well as the best way to communicate on the day-of with any last minute questions and quirks. I thought sending my bridesmaids to check in and ask questions was the best way to communicate on the day-of, but that wasn't received well by the coordinators. So I'd recommend that future brides ask the coordinators how they would like for the bridal party to communicate with them during that time. I would also recommend for the coordinators to be open to communicating with bridesmaids since the bride is out of commission focusing on her day and her bridesmaids are there to help. read more

I was really excited to stay here during my visit to Rochester but I was really disappointed that my first interaction with the hotel was with the rudest front desk staff I have ever encountered. I thought that maybe she was having a bad day so I left it at that and enjoyed the rest of my stay. The hotel itself is nice, comfortable and brought me back in time. I was about to leave a great review until I checked out and again, the girl at the front desk (different person) was rude and when I asked her a question she gave me a one word answer and brushed me off as if she had no time to interact. Pros: -Lots of character, old landmarked building -Attached restaurant is supposed to be great -Free breakfast included with stay was good -Front desk was friendly Cons: -Bed was uncomfortable because there were deep dents on each side from so many people sleeping on the feather mattress cover, making it lumpy -Room was a bit dingy, and not in the sense that there were antiques (I like those) - just worn -Really loud elevator-style hallway music that stayed on until 11:30pm (loud enough I could hear it lying in bed with the door shut -Neighborhood seemed a bit seedy -Key to room was an actual key and there was no additional chain lock inside so felt a bit insecure That being said, much preferred this to the Holiday Inn Express. read more

BY FAR THE WORST HOTEL THAT WE HAVE EVER STAYED AT!!! *EXTRA BOOKING FEES*, POOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION RATE, EXTREME LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM! RUDE STAFF MEMBERS!!! My husband and I had our WINTER WEDDING at the Strathallan Doubletree hotel (MUCH CLASSIER AND ELEGANT BTW) but decided to stay the night at The Inn on Broadway solely because of the WARM FIREPLACE and hot tub that they offered in the suite that we paid for. The night of our wedding we go into our room and try to get the fireplace to work. Unfortunately, after 20 minutes of trying to figure this fireplace out, we had to call the front desk because IT DID NOT WORK!!! Imagine how cold we were in that room during winter! Anyway, one of the employees ended up coming to our room ALSO trying to fix our fireplace to get it to start and even THEY couldn't do it! The employee was in our room for another 20 minutes disrupting OUR WEDDING NIGHT to get this darn fireplace to work. After expressing to that employee about how we booked this room solely because of the fireplace (WHICH COST EXTRA) and how frustrating the situation was and how disappointed we were, the kind employee stated that they would reimburse us for the inconvenience. So we go on about our night and check out the very next morning. Well, my husband spoke to the front desk clerk and she was absolutely rude to him. She told him that she was already aware and that we were getting reimbursed. My husband came back to the room to tell me and we joked and said, "watch it only be $20." Boy were we wrong! We were reimbursed a whole $30!!! Amazing! Who would've thought that you'd pay so much for this room on your SPECIAL night only to be screwed over and only reimbursed a measly $30! They didn't even offer us anything complementary for the inconvenience! As I was trying to speak to the front desk clerk, she kept cutting me off and had the audacity to give me attitude and roll her eyes at me while she was speaking! She displayed an extreme lack of customer service and professionalism!!! We have never experienced such hostility from any hotel that we have ever stayed at! We asked to speak to the manager and she claimed that she was it. If that was true, then that poor hotel should really consider NEW MANAGEMENT! You would think that "one of the best hotels in Rochester" would place a friendly face or professional AT THE LEAST at their check in since they are the first staff members that your guests encounter; not to mention the first faces to represent your hotel! But not this hotel! Here at this hotel you will receive average service and poor customer service. Do yourself a favor and save your money! Otherwise, Good luck with your stay here! read more

I travel to Rochester a few times a year on business. For the past 3 years, I have always stayed at the lovely, character-infused Inn on Broadway. You can read all about the character and such on their website, so i will focus on the subjectives. What i like: * Staff - the staff are all great, super friendly and helpful (but not overly so). I have always disliked aloof staff, which is not a problem here. They are great, down to earth, and approachable. My kind of peeps. * Rooms - each room is different somehow. They all have great showers, and if you are lucky (or just pay for it) the special rooms have the best bathtubs. * Location - right off the inner loop. Easy to get to once you know where it is, but I find easy to miss until you've been here a few times (but i have a terrible sense of direction out here for some reason). NOTE - the rental car people will NOT have heard of it, it's quite the underground hotel. I recommend you get directions and print them out from the airport. * The food - they have a killer restaurant downstairs, a real steakhouse. Food is wonderful, huge winelist, waitstaff are great, I just can't say enough and it deserves it's own entry here anyway. I just wanted to mention it. My main gripes are just that it's not really set up so well as a business hotel (but this may be a plus to you). They do have ethernet ports in every room, but wifi coverage is poor and you should request that when you make your reservation if it's important to you. They will totally accommodate you, you just need to ask. Power outlets are rare and usually full so you might want to ask for a power strip too. Finally in-room service stops at about 10; this has sometimes been a bitch as since i fly in from the west coast i often don't get in until 10:30 or 11pm. I have taken to purchasing an extra sandwitch at JFK so I'll have something to eat when i get in. All that is the only reason i don't give it 5 stars, and frankly if i was just here to enjoy the hotel and area, I would give it 5 stars. I'm very fold of this place! read more

Had a lovely stay here courtesy of my wife, who surprised me with dinner reservations at Tournedos and a room for the night. Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere in an old historic building in the heart of the East end. You are within walking distance of Victoire (yes of course we stopped in for a Belgian), Fraiche, Eastman School, etc. Room was well appointed and clean, if just a bit dated looking. Nice comfortable bed with good pillows, perfect for a restful, or not so restful night after a meal at Tournedos. Wonderful place to go and just not feel rushed. It was a very quiet oasis, and a nice re-charge after a long week. Felt like we were one of the only ones in the hotel. Nights include a very nice breakfast spread of mini quiches which were quite delicious, juices, coffee, danish, muffins, cereals and such. It was nice to grab a complimentary D&C and just kick back in the quiet, dimly lit dining room for a lazy breakfast. Nice to know that little boutique hotels like this still exist in Rochester. Would definitely recommend as a nice getaway splurge or place for out of town guests for short visits. Could wear on the wallet for stays of more than a night or two. read more

We came here for a rehearsal dinner and I was very impressed with the space. The Inn is a beautiful old house with high ceilings and lots of light. We sat upstairs, which looks like it seats about 100 comfortably. Bartenders were friendly, and the food was very good. Great for family gatherings. read more
