While seemingly randomly strung together some of the exhibits were impressive include large displays of pinned insects. Live animals and insects are also on display. Well this was serendipity because my beloved koi fish passed away and they're also museum that I discovered and not just for insects and taxidermy did you take their time and they try to stay within your budget and they're non profit. What a rare and amazing place to learn various things!!! My students at work recommended that I bring my kids to learn taxidermy and see specimens, so we came in this pretty snowy day. It was easy to find, right on Milwaukee, parking was available right in front, and there were so many extraordinaries to look and experience. Awesome. Just awesome place to come visit! Such a beautiful museum decorated with lots of gorgeous taxidermies and live animals/insects to visit (specifically Hazel the Possum). It's a $20/person admission fee, but it goes back to the museum and is worth it esp if you like taking pictures. They even hold classes that I want to try one day and I feel like the quality of this place shows how well loved this museum is. You can even adopt adorable rabbits!! read more

Interesting place. Front of the place is a small store. Behind the store is many things n display including an upper section with some live and dead insects for viewing. There is an admission fee and they offer a few workshops such as pinning butterfly. They also have some taxidermy animals on display. I would have liked to seen more insect variety and less taxidermy. They also have some artwork in the back which I liked. One of my favorite pieces was of a Puss Moth Caterpillar by Ryan Blume. One of my favorite pinned insects was a Darwin's goliath centipede. I like insects as long as they are not in my apartment or where I work. It is small enough that it probably takes less 60 minutes to see everything depending on how much time you spend at each animal reading everything. I might go back especially if they have a special event. read more

Incredible visit -- went on a Friday around 11am. There were 3 people on staff who were adamant we had an engaging experience. We got to hold and visit with leopard geckos, their resident opposum, another big lizard I forgot the name of, and learn about so many more. We went in with the expectation of only seeing once-alive creatures (that part of the space was awesome as well), but came out having met creatures we couldn't have expected to ever interact with in such an intimate and educational way. Their gift shop is really cool as well, and super affordable! Cannot recommend the Insect Asylum enough! read more

Eternally interesting, a fascinating store. We came in here looking for something for a child who likes nature and found the perfect gift. The owner was welcoming, thoughtful, and beyond helpful. Wow! My friends and I were in town for the weekend & saw TIA from across the street and decided to check it out! The retail part is in the front and once you go past the front desk it's a museum that you pay admission for. We were able to hold baby opossums and everyone there was so helpful and willing to answer and questions! We were even offered something to drink as we oogled and awed at all there was to admire! Nina is extraordinary - a truly gifted artist. I had three framed insect displays that needed help. Part of a family collection that my kids grew up with they had seen better days and I'm so glad I found the insect asylum. A beetle and a moth were each in large pieces - could Nina repair them? I wondered. However the large frame of nine butterflies was a complete shambles with only two partly intact specimens- the others were a pile of shreds and body bits collected in the frame corner. These were a lost cause and I held out no hope. I told Nina I expected she could only repair two butterflies at most; the rest was a loss..... A week later she returned my entire collection, the large beetle, the beautiful moth, and all nine butterflies completely restored to perfect condition! She even repaired the cracks in the frame glass. I'm not sure this was possible but somehow she did it. Nina is very easy to work with AND very professional. Most important, her work product is beautiful and exceptional. She far exceeded my most optimistic expectations. read more
