We pleasantly chatted about how similar MN and ME are with them as we checked in. We received a pair of actual keys to our room, which was a refreshing escape from electronic this and selfie that. Since we were only in town for a night, we stayed in a double-queen room instead of a full suite. We had our own separate entrance to the room from our own private patio area, which made it feel like we were entering a vacation home. Every detail in the room was luxurious. From the Bose stereo playing jazz, to the fireplace, to the ornate furniture, to THE most comfortable bed and pillows, to the hardwood hallway leading to the large bathroom with light dimmers. In the morning, they set-up a wonderful breakfast in-room for us: spinach-feta frittata, spring salad, fruit salad, blueberry-lemon pound cake, OJ, and coffee. Having to check out and leave really sucked. Additional info: Must book weeks in advance, as they only have 8 rooms. Park in the front to check-in, then you can re-park in the private lot in the back. They are right next to the Co-op and within walking distance of basically everything in town!

We use our deck daily, often enjoying morning coffee and tea and evening cocktails with others who come here regularly. If we arise early, we take a short walk to Clark Point Cafe for the best blueberry scones you have ever had. We walk uphill to Little Notch Bakery and Cafe for muffins, cookies, homemade breads, sandwiches, great pizzas, and gift items. Karaoke night is Saturday up hill at Next Level Sports Lounge. An ice cream shop, Eat A Pita and Cafe, Harbor Table, Red Sky, and Cafe Drydock are all walkable options for foods. The Ace Hardware store has just about everything. Great service too. If you don't mind an about five minute slow drive, the beautiful Claremont Hotel is a special place to enjoy drinks on their waterfront porch, lunch on the water at Batson Fish Camp, or treat yourself to a lovely dinner at the Little Fern restaurant there. I love their decor! Harry's bar is a stunningly cozy bar in the hotel. Try to stay at Harborview Motel and Cottages for the Fourth of July parade or the Pink Flamingo parade. Great fun for all ages! Now back to Harborview...If you like low key, Maine feel places to stay, Harborview might be for you. This multi generational family owned property is our favorite. Why? Water views, updates always occurring, responsive and friendly staff, reasonable rates, informality, walkability to Main Street dining and shopping, congenial guests, and its location on "The Quietside" of Mountain Desert Island/Acadia National Park. The wifi is a little uneven, but I sympathize since we have the same problems at home. Our cottage literally felt like home, with its green-friendly systems for compost and recycling, handy wood piles, and even a delightful tray of fresh-growing arugula lettuce on the deck which the owner invited us to help ourselves to. The place was spotlessly clean. There are little homey touches all over the properties showing the owner's care for the place. I can't imagine coming back to MDI without booking a stay at one of these cottages.

Although we were refunded a small percentage of the original payment, the house, loft and cottage were very rough. There were 18 of us, 6 were children. Not enough AC units for a home that size, dirty water (brown tinged) coming out of the cottage faucet, rhat leaked onto the floor of the bathroom, refrigerator in farmhouse not cooling properly, the two heat pumps that were in the loft and cottage had filters so filthy, they could not cool (work) properly (photo attached). When we arrived on a 98°+ day, the house and cottage were closed up with no ACs on, or windows opened. Dead flies were covering the beds and floors. We had to purchase two window AC units so that we would be comfortable sleeping during our stay. We will not be returning or doing business with this company again.

They offer both motel-style rooms and cottages--though I can only speak to the motel room, as I didn't stay in a cottage. I met the two new owners, sisters from New York, who were actively making upgrades and working on the landscaping. They were incredibly kind and accommodating, even placing me in a room away from other guests so I could enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. The room was clean and comfortable, with great amenities. The bed was cozy, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the rate was very reasonable--about $100 with tax. The only downside was the water pressure in the shower and a slight delay before the hot water kicked in. Other than that, no complaints. Check-in was super convenient. Instead of keys or cards, they use a keypad system with a code programmed specifically for each guest--reset after every stay. Great for travelers who are in and out. There's no on-site restaurant, but the motel is only five minutes from town. The property features a scenic view of a field and trees, plus a pond and small play structure. If you're planning to spend most of your time exploring the area and just need a quiet, comfortable place to sleep, this is a fantastic choice. Good parking, great people, and a relaxing environment. Would 100% stay again.

We had to pack up everything and move from Room 6 to Room 27 in the middle of the night. And to make things worse, they gave us the wrong key code to the new room, so we were stuck outside for a while. What really made the experience worse was the lack of professionalism from John, the person in charge. He wasn't helpful, never apologized, and didn't seem to care at all about the inconvenience. Not even a "sorry" after making us do all that at midnight. It was a very frustrating and disappointing start to our trip. I would not recommend staying here, especially if you're expecting basic hospitality and accountability.
