For eleven years Camden Accommodations has been outstanding in handling our 2-month home rentals in Fall in Camden, Maine. During that time, we have gotten all of our rentals through Camden Accommodations and could not be happier with the service we've received. Both in terms of finding places and during our stay, Barbara Heard and her staff have been professional, very responsive, courteous and helpful with every interaction we have had. The properties have always been ready for us on our arrival and the check-in and check-out have always been smooth. Over these past 11 years, we have stayed in 3 different properties, and, in each case, we have found the properties wonderfully maintained and well serviced by Camden Accommodations. Any maintenance issues with the properties or homes have been dealt with promptly and effectively through our contact with Barbara and her staff (even available "after hours" through a "live" contact person). When service people needed to come to the houses, the agency has gone out of its way to ensure that appointments were made to be convenient for us. We'll be returning to mid-coast Maine this coming fall, into a new property. We, again, found a house through Camden Accommodations and Barbara and her staff were most accommodating in helping us locate a house to deal with some more specific needs we have this year. We discovered Camden Accommodations' website searching for a rental property in Camden, Maine. We rented from them the past two years and already booked a third year with them for a visit this year. Their service and hospitality is stellar, from the information provided prior to arrival, quick, professional response to all requests and accurate description of their rental properties. The property is in excellent condition, well furnished and has all the amenities and comforts of home. When we're in town, we stop by the Camden Accommodations office to say hello and they always welcome us in a warm, friendly way and go out of their way to make sure we have everything we need. My memories of this beautiful part of the country and of Maine have been severely tainted by my experience with the Camden Accommodations rental company. Specifically, the rental agent and apparent supervisor of this company, Barbara Heard has treated me like a common criminal after spending a lot of money in renting one of their nicer houses for a week. Myself and my wife are professionals and often rent vacation homes for our trips and this is the first time we've been treated like this. Here are some details...The house we stayed in did not have AC (understandable for Maine coast) and one evening the wind blew several bedroom doors closed. One of the doors locked after slamming and now Barbara is charging me for a locksmith! Next, a kitchen spray nozzle head was broken when we showed up and used it. It literally fell apart when I picked it up on the first day. Barbara is now charging me for a replacement faucet and the cost of a plumber. Next, there was a small model ship in a office which my 6 year old son unfortunately got his hands on one day and I think he broke a small piece off the deck. It was a small piece. Barbara said she took it to a professional repair shop and is now charging me $500 in repairs. I don't even know how that is possible. There were several other accusations I won't go into but they were all made to make us feel like bad people. This was a horrible experience and I recommend you don't business with these people unless you want to see your $1000 security vanish based on fabrications once your back in your home city and unable to do anything about Barbara's ridiculous claims. Other than my experience with the rental agent criminals, the house was overall not bad. I probably would have chosen a different place anyway based on the following details. No AC. Probably typical but this was not specified up front. No TVs in the bedrooms. No blinds on the windows of the Master bedroom facing East - yes, you get blasted with sunrise whether you want to or not. The house is situated several hundred yards from the water on a marsh. I would have picked a place with actual waterfront. It can get pretty buggy since it sits on a marsh. read more

Given that they are the only short term rental company in the area I don't think this review will even make a difference but I wanted to share my experience anyway. They were hesitant to rent to us because our friends would be staying at the house over our wedding weekend but did anyway. I agree with the other reviewer that they treated us like common criminals after spending a lot of money on a house as well! Our friends arrived at 3am and tried to go to the campground but couldn't so set up tents on the lawn for a few hours so they could get some sleep. The tents were taken down by 8am - one of the ladies stopped by the house at 2:45p as the groom was leaving to talk about the tents even though they had been down for hours. At the same time even though they talked with the groom in person they still called my cell phone to tell us the same thing about the tents. Then on Monday even though we had the had the house rented and paid for until Thursday they had the nerve to not only email me, they also emailed my mom. This is what they said: "Thought I'd just check in quickly. Do you think there will be someone staying at Captains Cottage through September 28th? We are scheduling cleaning for the week and just planning when to have cleaners go to Captains." Leave us alone we have paid a lot of money to rent the house until Thursday - schedule the cleaning for Thursday afternoon!!! Then on the morning we left we received another email from the ladies 45 minutes after we dropped off the keys saying: "Just got back from checking the house; it looks good; definitely used but no big messes; thank you !" Sorry, I'm confused, are we not supposed to pay to rent a house and not use it???? read more
