We each had an order of the gumbo and shared a side of onion rings. The gumbo was tasty and the perfect portion. The onion rings were also really good with the dipping sauce. We decided to share a piece of blueberry cheesecake before we hit the road and had zero regrets. It was a really pleasant meal and I would recommend this restaurant if you are in Searsport.

Then came the special of the day: fettuccine with mussels, shrimp, andouille sausage, peppers, artichokes, and capers -- which arrived in the exact same broth as the mussels appetizer, complete with the exact same bread crusts perched on top like a practical joke. It genuinely felt like they took the leftover broth from our appetizer, tossed in noodles and whatever ingredients were within arm's reach, and called it a "special." The only special thing about it was the audacity. My husband's house made Caesar with "blackened" chicken was another plot twist. The chicken wasn't blackened; it was just overcooked grilled chicken wearing the name "blackened" like a fake ID. The dressing tasted store‑bought -- the shelf‑stable kind you buy when you've given up -- which is not what anyone expects from something advertised as house made. Our friends' cheeseburger tasted like it came straight from a freezer box, and the bun had all the personality of a dinner roll from a school cafeteria. Honestly, the cafeteria comparison is unfair -- cafeterias at least know they're cafeterias. The singer was genuinely talented -- truly good -- but the volume was set to "jet engine," so we had to yell to hear each other at a table small enough that whispering should have worked. It was like attending a concert you didn't buy tickets for while trying to eat food you didn't want. Service was a whole separate adventure. Slow, forgetful, and consistently off. Our server forgot multiple items, including onion rings that never arrived, and one friend didn't get her food until the rest of us were done. No apologies, just repeated reminders that they were short staffed, followed by more short‑staffed service. We tipped 20% anyway, which the server seemed extremely grateful for -- probably because she knew exactly how the night had gone. Homeport used to be great. Now it's a place where you go to mourn what it used to be while eating food that tastes like it's mourning too.

They sell wine and beer at the front desk and it was a perfect night of relaxing outside under the stars by the fire with a cold beverage. Our room was clean and spacious, the front desk employees were kind and helpful, and there was plenty of parking close to the entrance that led to the room. Though this hotel is on the other side of the bay and therefor a bit far out of downtown Belfast, it was still a great and relaxing place and I'm glad I made the choice to book it.

Our Motel room was perfect for what we needed it for - a place to sleep when we weren't out exploring. Now the showers are almost comically small, but they get the job done. That said, the utilization of the space is very well thought out. My only suggestion would be to add some hooks by the door for extra hanging storage! We would definitely be back, but would probably level up and reserve a Cottage for a bit more shower space :)

Judy and Ed, the owners, held the door open for us as we approached the entrance. The lobby had beautiful chandeliers and fall decor. We pleasantly chatted about how similar MN and ME are with them as we checked in. We received a pair of actual keys to our room, which was a refreshing escape from electronic this and selfie that. Since we were only in town for a night, we stayed in a double-queen room instead of a full suite. We had our own separate entrance to the room from our own private patio area, which made it feel like we were entering a vacation home. Every detail in the room was luxurious. From the Bose stereo playing jazz, to the fireplace, to the ornate furniture, to THE most comfortable bed and pillows, to the hardwood hallway leading to the large bathroom with light dimmers. In the morning, they set-up a wonderful breakfast in-room for us: spinach-feta frittata, spring salad, fruit salad, blueberry-lemon pound cake, OJ, and coffee. Having to check out and leave really sucked. Additional info: Must book weeks in advance, as they only have 8 rooms. Park in the front to check-in, then you can re-park in the private lot in the back. They are right next to the Co-op and within walking distance of basically everything in town!

Fortunately, the next day, the young man in charge was very kind and removed the $20 "late check in fee", reduced the price of our stay and got us our sheets. My rating of this place went from 1 to 3 stars based on responsiveness. Bottom line: dates decor, stained carpeting, fridge that doesn't work. Clean sheets, some friendly people, and a cheap place to stay the night. Not perfect, but what do you want for cheap?

I booked through an online hotel website ... on our way up we hit traffic so naturally called the office... called 56 times! NO ONE ANSWERED ... so I phoned the website booking customer service number... they also couldn't get anyone to answer even on the private alternate number they had on file. So they cancelled the booking and helped with finding another pet-friendly hotel in the area for the same night. Thankful because the next morning we drove past the Baits Motel and it looked like no one was running the place. There was what looked like a young guy sitting on the porch with the place seeming quite ironically the "Bates Motel". If you see this place listed for pet-friendly motels along Route 1 in Maine... don't book through online hotel websites... cause the online websites need to take it down.
