Long review coming. The short answer-do I recommend? No and here's why. First, the location. This is in no way a place where your room has a lovely view of the lake or access to it unless you try crossing the highway and into private properties. Parking is limited and one night upon our return there was no space. Getting to your room is a small sidewalk that is highly in needed of trimming to actually walk through without being smacked in the face. WiFi was terrible with one bar service. The room (Bali) was spacious but the functionality of it could be so much better. Get rid of the dusty plastic plants and put in some end tables or extra seating. Put a large mirror outside the one bathroom to allow guests to get ready when bathroom is in use. The bathroom was huge but it had a pedestal sink that offered no room for toiletries or hot tools. Plenty of space to add a larger sink, even a dresser. The mirror was useless and the size of a small plate. The bathroom mat was old and soaking wet when we arrived and during our stay the toilet clogged and must be common because a plunger was provided but didn't work well. Not fun things to deal with as a mom on vacation. The fans and windows were caked in dust. I'm always looking for stray socks when we leave and under the couch was full of things you wish you didn't see. I did like the chairs outside and the sauna was interesting but small and I never felt comfortable enough to join when it was in use. Also it had no instructions on how to use it. Service was nonexistent. No office area or help. Not sure how long I would have waited if the toilet didn't unclog after my 10 minutes of trying or where our family would have had another facility to use in the meantime. As for the rooms having different themes-Montana is special and this area especially close to Glacier National Park-why not celebrate that uniqueness and beauty and have the decor match it with local art or cabin feel? People travel from all over to come here, not to see a room decorated like Bali because that certainly wasn't it, but to feel like Montana. There is potential here with a correct price point and frankness about lake access and view, but I'm never staying here again. read more

This place is disgusting! Do not stay here. The website and pictures are VERY deceiving! The grounds have fallen into disrepair - it's just gross. Our room only contained decaf coffee, and when I left a voicemail and texted, I got no response! Finally had to run to the gas station to get coffee. When I decided to make decaf later, there was no way I was using the filthy coffee pot! Regular coffee finally appeared in our room late in the day when we were gone. Visible dust in the room, lightbulbs missing, hooks torn off the wall...I could go on! I don't know how much these other reviewers got paid! I saw no evidence of the nice things they said about this place! Stay away! read more

I would rate this place is zero stars...we drove all the way from Spokane, Washington thinking this place was right on the lake, which is what it's pictures portrayed. I had five kids in the car and when we got there, the place was a dumpster dive. The pictures are completely misleading and they were trying to charge me $300 a night for an El crapo room that was ridiculous. I'm in the process of disputing the charges. We didn't even stay. We left and went down to the hotel in Polson, which was the casino hotel. Very very nice... I just have to say that anybody out there looking at this place should I would pass they are deceptive and when you get there is nobody at the office and you can't reach absolutely nobody to dispute your issues with.. I highly recommend go somewhere else and completely leave this place behind. I don't even know they're still in business read more

If you love checking in late to a once-nice room that has fallen into grievous disrepair with dog and human hair everywhere, this is the place for you! If you love the smell of cheap detergent and a bed that will leave you half crippled, this place is your best bet. If you are four feet tall and weigh 85 pounds, you will LOVE the shower here! Wow, just wow! The owner/manager does NOT care. I know a lot of the locals here are alcohol-depedant, and it really shows. This area really needs an addiction treatment center and some managers trained by magor corporations in larger metropolitan areas. The standards are low, the prices are high, and the manager is permanently out to lunch! read more

This was a wonderful weekend getaway for my wife and I. The Zanzibar theme room was great. Jacuzzi in the room, fire pit right out the front door, and a beautiful view of Flathead Lake. The staff was very friendly and personable. Very quiet and friendly neighborhood. Our stay was in earl March, so not high tourist season. This time is too chilly to play in the lake at all, but the plus side of that is the beach is deserted and perfect for a peaceful walk. read more

Snother great restaurant next to the hotel called Bonfire with seasonal menus or rotating I think. The rooms were super clean and comfy, it was close to anything we needed and in such a serene place. Woods Bay is stepping it up all the time, with the help of Lisa this place is cleaning up more and more. The Islander was cute and quaint and clean. We stayed in Anguilla A room and the blue and white transports you to a tropical place. Step outside and stare at the beautiful lake. Better yet, start a fire and sit out on the lawn. You could spend your whole visit right here, bouncing between Bonfire, The Woods Bay Wine shop, The Raven and The Duck. I don't believe the website is misleading. A few steps and you are on the lake. But your view in the room is not a lake view and no where does it say that. Even sharing a wall with the Anguilla B room, I could not hear them or felt that they would hear me. That being said, I've been driving by this location for over 20 years. More importantly, this place is clean, even with white floors of the Anguilla room it was immaculate. There were some small things to be repaired, but after a busy summer, that's probably to be expected. A light bulb burned out, the mirror falling out of the frame. No biggie in my opinion. Adds to the charm. This is funky quaint, not elegant and that's what Woods Bay has always been about. As a local enjoying a staycation, I was more than happy. read more

I read the reviews before staying here, so I was aware that the inn was not on the lake (it's across the street from it), and the rooms are not private bungalows on the shore. The website is pretty misleading, but once you come to terms with that, the experience is very sweet and charming. A girlfriend and I stayed at the Islander for 3 nights. We were close to the front office in the Anguilla, though we were surprised to find that there was only one bed in our room. (I hadn't made the arrangements.) We pulled up the website and realized that the majority of the Islander's rooms had only one bed, and since we've been friends since preschool we just treated our situation like a slumber party. Our room came with a bathroom with plenty of hot water, a tiny fridge, sink, microwave, and toaster. We could control our own AC and air flow. Wish there'd been a ceiling fan since blowing the window unit fan just made the room smell a little strange. Our room was attached to another, and the walls were paper-thin. We could hear the conversation happening in the next room like it was in our own. That was pretty irritating and the main reason why I didn't give our experience a higher rating. Big Fork is about a 15-minute drive away; Kalispell is about 40; Glacier National Park is about an hour. There is no room service or kitchen, but you can go to The Raven across the street or the Flathead Brewing Co. next door for some drinks or eats. There is a lawn set-up by the front office where we sat and read quietly in the chilly mornings, and honestly, it was quite peaceful. The wifi is dismally slow, so it's kind of like a little respite from the virtual world and a lovely way to sit back and enjoy nature :) read more

It's been 9 months since this trip and I just noticed an unfinished review I had... Ended up here after tipping back some samples at the distillery up the road :-) pull in to the Raven (Retaurant across the street) and ask at the bar. Each room has a theme. I stayed in Crete...nice little pad and still cheaper than Days Inn anywhere. Great food at the Raven, deck over the lake for a sunset, brewpub next door...perfect! read more

When my husband and I chose to stay here this past summer we already knew it wasn't right on the lake. But we were looking for a place for a little "staycation" so decided to try the Islander. We reserved the Wildhorse room which has western decor. It's one of the rooms that allows pets which we chose since we were bringing our dog. In front of the rooms there is a narrow grassy strip that runs along the parking lot with an area you can bring your dog; plus there are a few chairs out there too. I'll share my own personal pluses and minuses. Pluses: The owner was very friendly and check in/out went very well too. The room was cozy and clean, with enough room for my husband, dog and I. The bathroom has a separate outside sink area which is very well lit. Lots of hot water and a room tub/shower The bed was comfortable There were dispensers of body lotion, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. The price is reasonable for what you get. There are rooms that allow pets Minuses: There is practically nowhere to walk. There is a small neighborhood street right to the east of the motel, which felt kind of weird walking through with our dog (who was on a leash) especially since there were other dogs running loose on that street. The motel itself is right on the highway so it felt very unsafe to walk so close to cars whizzing past us. Flathead lake is made up of mostly private beaches, so in order to walk along the lake you need to drive to a park such as one that was about 5 miles north. The Islander, which also owns the Raven Cafe located on the lake side of the highway, has its own little private lake shore area next to the Raven Cafe. I thought this would be big enough to walk around and bring our dog, but it's tiny. It's perhaps 10 large strides wide and extremely rocky. A nice place to watch a sunset but that's about it. (A plus and minus) The Raven has nice, tasty food, although not much variety. But it's more of a bar that serves food than a restaurant. It's very small with not much seating but that was fine with husband and I since we just got take out food to bring to the room. Being a bar that can feature live music the place can get very crowded and noisy. Lots of bar patrons were parking in the small motel parking lot too. That was one of the reasons my husband and I choose not to stay a second night as we'd planned, since we were hoping for a peaceful getaway. read more

Cute with a capital 'K' or 'C' whichever you prefer. The rooms are tiny, studio like, but so cozy and clean! The place screams with ownership pride. Freshly painted rooms with current furniture and art style. Such a contrast to the chain hotel I stayed at the night before. This location worked perfect for me as I had 2 days of work to do in Bigfork. I like how The Islander is removed from the city and yet so close. It became my hideaway of sorts. Also fun were the dinner options in walking distance - Flathead Brewery and The Raven. You will be right across the street from the always beautiful Flathead Lake. If you are looking for something different and new, you will definitely enjoy a night or two at this niche location. read more

This little inn is charming. We were here in the early part of the season, so it felt like we had it mostly to ourselves. The room we stayed in was bright and clean- Anguilla A. The owner was super friendly and invited us to am yoga on the lawn- apparently it's normally held down on the deck of the Raven across the street on the lake. The Raven was equally great with delicious food and nice locals. We'd definitely stay here again. read more

8/17/2014 - After a second afternoon spent sitting on a mound overlooking the highway rather than a deck on the shoreline, we informed the front we would check out in the morning and would be looking for a refund on the third night. There was push back so I quoted the cancellation policy from our confirmation. The next morning, I returned our key and asked her to process the refund. The desk clerk said the owner refused. Here is the cancellation policy from our confirmation: "In the unlikely event that you must cancel with less than 2 weeks notice, shorten your stay or check out early, please understand that we ask you to take responsibility for the first night charged." I was issued a credit for one night; the credit did not post to our account until a week later. I will update again. Bottomline - know the cancellation policy. read more

Although my room was really clean and had some nice personal touches, it certainly wasn't the peaceful private bungalow that I had purchased online. For one thing, it isn't a bungalow: it's a series of rooms alongside each other. And two, the photos with the property show a lake view - which led me to think it was on the water. It is in fact, across the street from the lake. Unfortunately on the one night I stayed there was also a band across the road which put an end to any kind of peaceful lakeside evening that I was looking forward too. So although it's a great option as a glorified hotel room, I can only give this place 3 stars for misrepresentation. read more

Cute tropical themed rooms. We stayed in Zanzibar a large dog friendly room with a King size bed plus a hideaway and small kitchen. Cool bar on Flathead Lake across the street with excellent food. We enjoyed the Chicken Pad Thai. Also a friendly restaurant/bar next door. The Wild mushrooms in a white wine sauce were ridiculously delicious! There is also a fire pit with chairs that sits on a small hill overlooking beautiful Flathead lake. We really enjoyed hanging out making new friends. So relaxing. We can't wait to come back! read more

Peeling paint, small holes in walls, towel fixture falling out from wall,, hair on shower wall, Looked into deep floor vase & was appalled at the site & the amount of dirt/fuzz in bottom of it. Dead flies & some dirt behind stands & dresser. Plugged bathroom sink. I cant justify the stay for the cost.. Maybe need to address & upgrade housekeepers. Other than that, the beds were comfortable & clean, the towels were fresh & clean & of good quality,nice yard. good view. read more

After putting in a reservation I saw that there would be inclement weather and decided against driving out and so I wanted to cancel my rsvp and book later in the year. First they never responded to my email asking to cancel, then they didn't respond to my message on twitter, then they wouldn't return my phone call and instead of simply contacting me back to cancel my rsvp and schedule a later rsvp, which by the way would have cost me more, they decided to instead ignore my attempts at contact and they charged my credit card. Yes they never got back to my multiple attempts to cancel and instead charged me knowing I wasn't going to make it. I gave them ample time per their policy to cancel however as I stated I never heard back from them and was charged. Unfortunately I had to contact my credit card company and file for fraudulent charges. Really not a great way to treat potential customers. read more

Great Hotel in Woods Bay on Flathead Lake - across from the very popular Raven restaurant - suites are a fantastic deal

The Islander is a quaint, funky little gem in Woods Bay just south of Bigfork...A set of cute as can be bungalows themed after different carribean islands. The owners Brian and Lisa also own the bar/restaurant across the street. They are wonderful down to earth folks who after travelling all over the carribean brought the flair home with them to Montana. This is not a fancy place and Bigfork is a pricey little artist, tourist town. It is adorable,,comfortable, clean and refreshing..right across the street from the lake. And the price can't be beat!!! The Raven is on the lake with a great two level deck to enjoy the view with your adult beverage. I loved this place and can't wait to go back!! Brian and Lisa are great hosts too!!! We were there one night for our anniversary and were fortunate enough to get to hang out on the front lawn at night and just chat the night away..They gave us a bottle of their distillery's Hibiscus Coconut Rum too for out anniversary.. read more

I stayed at the islander for my honeymoon and would never go back there.The website claims its a stone throw from the lake and shows a beautiful view. We got there it was across the street from the lake and our view was a paking lot and a small yard filled with paint cans. It adverted private bungalows but in truth you share a wall with another unit and together they are the size of a 2 car garage. The website was misleading. The heater in the bathroom didnt work we only had two towels and one was damp and hung up like it was used. The hot water lasted about ten minutes. There was mold growing on a side table. The room had coffee creamers that were expired a month before and were not refrigerated. We got food poisoning from the owners other establishment the same night and when we brought it to the owners attention we were called liars and told to leave immediately or pay for another night. I will always remember I spent my honeymoon in that bathroom. What a memory I would never recommend this place to anyone read more

This place is super cute with beautiful views of Flathead Lake. I stayed in an African-themed suite called 'Zanzibar' and the finishes and attention to detail were perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owners of the Inn, also, own a restaurant right across the street and right on the lake. I really enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend it. read more
