My single Uncle was happy living in the independent apartment at Kahala Nui. He met and made many good friends there and used the gym/weight room, pool, library, and dining area facilities. Once in awhile we were able to dine in to use his meal credit when I visited him. Great service and wonderful people. As several years has passed, his health was deteriorating and it made it difficult for him to live on his own and was in intermediate to assistant living care. Just recently he was in hospice and hung in for a month. Sad to say he has passed this week. I also had a dear church friend in Hospice on the same floor this year. I'm just impressed by the outstanding service by the Head social worker Jackie and The Assistant Lisa to the Head nurse Chelsea who made my Uncle comfortable and loved while being away from siblings and friends during the Covid Pandemic! They were like family to him to his last remaining days. Thank you for your excellent care and service! I'm sure my Uncle was truly blessed living at Kahala Nui!

After hours, actually days in the ER and receiving surgery as the doctor put it " to put a metal plate and other hardware in", person was released to rehab. Thankful for the Villas, a rehabilitation center and part of the St.Francis system. Still unable to live independently, patient chose to move over to the adult assisted living center on the same property. From the Villas it was an easy transition to Hale O Meleana by wheelchair through the courtyards. Thankful for the good care person is receiving at Hale O Meleana. Rooms are spacious and individual units with limited kitchen: full size refrigerator, microwave, hotpot... what else does one need? Not much when the delicious meals are provided in the dining room. Coffee and cookies available on self serve basis in the meeting room. Lots of activities for residents. Crafts, games, social events. There is a lovely garden as well as courtyard for those wanting fresh air. Hale O Meleana is a great option for those not ready to transition to long term adult housing which requires down payment (think Craigside, Arcadia, Kahala Nui) but needs temporary assistance. Charges are month to month.

Assisted living in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. My mom wanted to visit her friend. Her friend didn't give clear instructions on how to get to her facility. It didn't seem like she knew the name of her facility either. Uhg... My mom only knew "Hale O..." I used Google and "Hale O Meleana" popped up. Mom thought it was near St. Francis Medical Center... which is on Liliha Street. Putting 2 and 2 together, I guessed that mom's friend was at Hale O Meleana (House of Marianne, in English). We used GPS and found the free parking lot on Mahalo Street. We walked to the front door, but the receptionist was gone for the rest of the day (there was a sign that I read through the glass door). My mom phoned her friend and stated that we were locked out. Mom's friend's friend (Sarah) came out and opened the door for us. We found mom's friend in the outdoor dining area... yay! Hale O Meleana appears to be a clean, modern facility. The courtyard is beautiful with a statue of Saint Mother Marianne Cope (of Molokai) and a pleasant water feature! Lunch service was in process, so we did a quick greeting and left. We'll be back to visit!

We were doing our best to care for our 94-year-old mother, who was adamant about living at home, but we eventually realized we couldn't provide the level of care she needed and deserved. Beth, the owner, compassionately guided us through the transition process. Within just two weeks of moving to Kina'Ole, my mom felt completely comfortable there and built real trust with the staff. While she is aware she isn't in her original home, she never asks to go back. She often shares how much she enjoys the variety of food, having staff always nearby to assist, spending time in the common room for group activities, and having her room cleaned for her. She also loves that services like haircuts, nail trims, and massages come directly to her! The staff goes above and beyond, decorating the home and planning special meals and activities for holidays and special occasions. At the same time, she can retreat to her private room whenever she wants quiet time, and having her own en-suite bathroom has been essential for her privacy and dignity. Our family visits frequently and stop in at various times during the day and evening, and no matter when we drop by, my mom is happy and exceptionally well cared for. She has developed genuine, sweet relationships with the caregivers, and it warms my heart to hear how lovingly they interact with all the residents. My mother has lived at Kina 'Ole for nine months now, and her doctors are thrilled with her progress. They noted that she looks fantastic and that all of her health numbers are great now that she consistently takes her medication, bathes, exercises, and participates in daily activities. The staff carefully monitors vital health metrics like water intake, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. The house manager is incredibly responsive, periodically sending us photo updates, and she even takes Mom to medical appointments when our family couldn't make it. The care our mother receives at Kina 'Ole Estate gives our family complete peace of mind, which is truly invaluable. Mom gave us her absolute best growing up, and knowing she is receiving the absolute best care in her golden years means the world to us.

On Christmas Day when I visited my brother who was under hospice care, I gave a $5,235 check dated Jan 1st for his month of January stay. Vivian knew my brother was on death's door the week after Xmas and expected to die any day before the New Year. When he passed away I sent a message to Vivian advising her in advance that I would cancel the check, with no reply from Vivian. But when I saw it had not been cashed in January, I withdrew money from the account. But unknown to me, she had already cashed his check on December 28th, even though it was dated 1/1/2023. Again, she knew my brother was dying and expected to die any day before the New Year, yet she stole the $5,235,00 from this decorated retired 20 year veteran. Beware! Nonetheless, the hired caregivers were remarkably capable and caring to patients. Too bad can't say the same for the owner.
