This market is a bit on the smaller side. When I arrived, there were about 15 vendors set up. There were a few parents shopping with their kids. I got a few nectarines. The vendor had a sample tray next to each different type of fruit. You are able to mix and match any of the fruit for 4.50 a pound. It's a bit overpriced, but the nectarines were plump and not too sweet. He accepts cash and tap. There was also a veggie stand towards the back. He only accepted cash. I got a cauliflower, but he also had other veggies like squash, carrots, and zucchini. The last stand I stopped by at had yogurts and dips. I got a key lime yogurt that tasted just right. He had other flavors such as hazelnut, white chocolate, strawberry, and hazelnut. For dips, I got the habanero hummus, tomato garlic paste, and sundried tomato feta appetizer. He also had pita chips and baked gluten-free garbanzo chips. He accepted tap and cash. There were also a few other stands that had eggs, tamales, pastries, crafts, peanuts, plants, tamales, lawn signs, and body care. Really great, unexpected Saturday morning find. I think this farmer's market disappeared for a while based on the sporadic, outdated reviews. Now it's back and conveniently located in the spacious parking lot at Mt. SAC. As usual, there are tons of veggie vendors. There's a bread stand. There's a nut stand. There's a hummus stand. Plenty of the usual stands. But sets this market apart from others are the hidden gems between stalls. For being an early morning market, there are a ton of hot food options - I picked up two tamales from the tamale person for $4 bucks a pop. Their prices haven't been inflated by the inflation. I also saw a Mediterranean stand and I'm pretty sure there was an Asian stand of some sort. What I loved about this market was the pastry guy, unapologetically located smack dab in the center of the market. All of his pastries run around $5-$6 dollars and everything I picked up was so delicious. I bought an almond croissant, a pistachio croissant, and a ham & cheese guy - all the croissants were phenomenally flakey. I also picked up a spinach and cheese quiche which made for a nice breakfast situation. Definitely come here for the pastries. Based on my observation, everyone was here for the seafood peddler. There's this French bakery stall in the middle of the pop-up market that offers both sweet and savory items, which are at par with the goodies one will find in a good boulangerie-patisserie in France. From time to time, if we happen to be in the vicinity on a Saturday, we drop by and see what they have. Most of the pastries are a hit. But, there was this instance when we got an over baked, dry sourdough bread, oh well. There are produce, crafts, other food stalls. It would surely be nice if there will be more vendors. The tiniest farmers market I have ever seen. The prices are really high, but some farms are coming from far away. Usually the Asian vegetable vendors come from Fresno. If you're from the city of LA, it's not really worth your time as we have better farmers markets in LA such Hollywood and Santa Monica. One of the vendors were really aggressive like a high-pressure used car salesman passing out plastic bags to everyone who passed by. A tactic that worked on me as well saying words in my parents' native language. He also made comments to get more fruit. I saw someone buy $40 worth of apples from him at $4 a pound! Crazy. One vendor didn't sell Orange County stawberries by the basket and was only selling 3 baskets at $15. If you live in the area, then it's probably worth your time. If you're a visitor, I would skip it as there are only a few food vendors such as the tamale booth that seems to be at every farmers market in LA and a pastry vendor from Long Beach. I would probably recommend heading to the Asian vegetable vendor and the ladies selling oranges from Riverside towards the back. read more

Great little Market. Did I mention little? There are only a few vendors, but from what I saw and purchased, very high quality. Kudos to you, Mr. Newe. The Asian greens, squash, long beans and herbs, were in HUGE and lovely fresh-picked bundles, at $1.50 to $2.00a pop. (even if I didn't know what they were, exactly, I am sure that is a great deal) I bought 2 ginormous bunches of Rainbow Chard (1.50 each) and some green onions that were longer than my arm (with the roots still on them!) for $1.00. I bought some pluots and some plums, too. I only had 10.00 to spend, wish I had more, I would have bought the 3 baskets of absolutely stunning berries for $9.00 (The same were $14.00 at Claremont Farmer's market a couple of weeks ago) There was also: Tamale vendor, the ubiquitous Kettle Corn, Mexican "Grill", a couple jewelry vendors, fresh flowers, hummus, breads, and an herb/plants in pots for sale, too. Other things I want to buy after payday: HONEY- beautiful, heavy, jars full of the golden stuff, good variety, all Cali produced, starting at $12.00 GIANT avocados, the size of a child's head, $3.00 each GORGEOUS giant shitake mushrooms, other assorted 'shrooms $12.00/lb or $5.00/ basket. Small farmers market that comes to the Mt. Sac parking lot every weekend. There are some gems that I never miss out on when my family comes. Our favorite vendors: the artisan bakery - her fruit and but bread is AMAZING but you gotta get to her early before she sells out. And her chunky garlic cheese bread for breakfast. The yogurt guy - he has so many flavors and offers samples! Yes, he flirts with my mom but I'm not gonna open that can of worms. The pumpkin, fig and apricot flavors are SO delicious. Perfect on the artisan bread. There are a few food vendors and artists selling their wares. I bought an tillandsia a few years ago from a booth here and it's still alive so that's cool. If you're in the area on the weekend, come early on the weekend and support some local businesses. Parking is free by I think going through renovations. read more

FInally, the 57th best littlest city, Walnut, CA has a farmer's market! Jack Newe's is a cute farmer's market, all things fresh, hand-grown, hand-made and handled with love every Saturday. The majority of the vendors sell fresh vegetables, from your average giant carrots to warty bitter melons, and fruits, from your sweet strawberries to pluots. There's also vendors that sell fresh-cut colorful flowers, honey, almond roca, perfectly popped kettle corn, jewelry, cold and hot tamales, quesadillas and burrritos, breads and organic coffee. One of the best things about this farmer's market are the samples. Almond roca samples, I think yes! Seasonal fruit samples, I think double Yes!! Full strawberry samples, I think triple YES!!! What's also great about this farmer's market is the fact that vendors don't just stay in their booths, they look into what other booths are selling and even buy/trade a couple of things to support them. I think I have been living in the desert far too long. I had forgotten how fabulous a true Farmers Market can be. This particular one located in the Mt.Sac parking lot is just the right size. Not too big that it is overwhelming with options. There are plenty of freshly picked fruits and veggies, even a vendor selling Asian produce such as bok choy. There are also plenty of certified organic vendors. In addition, you will find handmade items (bags, hair bows, carved wood figurines). There are also fresh flowers and beautiful orchids. Hungry? If the free produce samples don't fill you up, there is also a vendor serving up made to order Mexican food. My favorite vendors, however are the Old Town Baking Co. with their wide selection of fresh bakes breads, my faves being the rosemary garlic sourdough and the cranberry walnut. My other favorite is the "hummus guy", Mike of Aris Natural Foods. His booth is in the center and he has a huge selection of yogurts, medittarenean dips and spreads, olives and cheese. Mike was creating various concoctions for me to try and it was hard to choose because I wanted to buy it all. I left with goat cheese with jalapeños, sun dried tomatoes, and skordalia with cayenne pepper. And since I live about 300 miles away, I am rationing them until my next visit! read more

The Hollywood FM is great but out of my way, and I don't find myself near UCI quite as much I used to. We don't drive the kids to practice anymore otherwise I would have known about this much sooner, but like someone else here says it's a great Saturday morning start... In the Mt Sac parking lot and there's no fee to park. Not really big, but has enough stuff for our interest, especially if you want a quick bite or if you want some fruit and produce at FM quality and prices. Summer season fruits are nice but remember to dress for hot weather and especially remember to bring a hat; all the goods are under popups but it gets hot nonetheless walking around the parking lot... Stopped at a vendor to buy and share a Pork Belly Bun which was made fresh and delicious. We picked up a Strawberry Lemonade from another vendor for $1.50 which tasted more like a limeade than a lemonade but was refreshing anyway. Among other things there are tamales being sold and a shaded area with tables and chairs to eat which is nice... These guys are a hop, skip, and a jump from our house so I can see us coming every now and then. I still go to the FM in Claremont on Sunday mornings sometimes because there are shops in the Village that I like whereas there's nothing else really in the vicinity of Mt Sac that would bring us here otherwise... read more

Came here with some friends before studying to get lunch and some coffee. This Farmer's market is located in the parking lot of Mt. Sac community college. This farmer's market is pretty small and has about 20 stands. If you want some fresh fruits and vegetables and want to support your local farmers this is the place to go. There was a stand that sold trees such as lychee and jack fruit, I asked him a few questions and he seemed pretty knowledgeable. For food and drinks: there is a coffee shop, a popcorn/peanut stand, tamales stand, Mediterranean stand that sold hummus and petas, and the carbon grill. My friends and I settled for the Carbon Grill. Burrito: This Burrito is filled with chicken, rice, beans, salsa, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce. Add another dollar and they'll add a fried egg or potatoes. This burrito is enough for two people to share. I requested no rice. Strawberry lemonade: pretty good, nice and refreshing. This place is a nicely sized farmers market and the vendors are very friendly people. You can stop to pick up some seasonal fruit and they even have a coffee bean vendor to supply you with your caffeine needs! If you need a quick fix then and there, they have some hot or cold java ready for the drinking. I love the Greek food vendor with his endless samples of his ware. He will talk your ear off and feed you while he's at it! He comes up with all kinds of combinations of his stuff to deliver a flavor packed sample that will leave you wanting more. If you're looking for more of meal, there is the Carbon Grill with the ever-so-friendly Lisa to prepare your delicious order. I personally favor the 3-pound burrito but I always have to share it because I just can't finish it all by myself. However, my dad has no problem doing so. He has one ever Saturday for breakfast. They load it up with chicken, lettuce, cheese, jasmine rice, pinto beans, salsa, guacamole and cream. You can ask for a chopped jalapeno ( I always do) in there for an added kick. Or you can try the tamales there too. They have so many options to pick from and it's served with your choice of red or green salsa. You can also ask for no salsa if you have or are a picky eater. If you like them so much you'd like to share them with your friends, they also sell frozen ones that you can take home and have for dinner too. Great little farmers market located in the Mt. Sac parking lot on Saturday mornings! My bf and I love visiting our local farmers markets to check out the different vendors. This one is the closest one to where we live. It's not the biggest market but there are enough vendors to get a good selection of produce, freshly baked breads, tamales, Taiwanese street food, honey, etc! There's also a stand that grills chicken and sells burritos if you're in the mood for that. It smells amazing! Natural Honey, olive oil, all types of fruits and vegetables, nuts are plenty. You are allowed to taste the fruits before the purchase, a man plays guitar and any donations are welcome. This farmers market is on the small side compared to others in the LA area. There are 2-3 fruit vendors, 3-4 veggie vendors, and 4-5 food vendors that come out on Saturdays. I love going here because 1) it's close to home (isn't the purpose of going to farmer's market to buy local?), 2) the quality is good, 3) the prices are extremely reasonable (I find the bigger the farmers market, the higher the prices) and 4) the relationships you build with the local growers (the fact that this FM is small helps). Things to try when you're here (aside from the fruits and veggies): 1) The tamales - Some of the best tamales I've had. The texture of the masa is amazing - so moist. It's a little steep at $3 each but it's twice as large as usual tamales. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors. 2) The Rocha - Delicious homemade rocha. They reel you in with their samples. This farmer's market is located in the parking lot of Mt SAC, down the hill from my parents house. Mom decided to check it out again today.. and she wanted to get the white long bean. We browse through the stalls. It was not crowded at all. theer are the usuals: kettle corn, food stalls, jewelry. But i was after the vegetables & bread. the mostly visited stall is the asian vegetables vendor. i did see peculiar beans.. it's green bean on the table with 2 side kicks : the white and the purple beans.. i wonder if they taste the same? $2/lb. mom bought some white peach from the korean fruit vendor. I bought squaw bread from the Muffin top bakery out of riverside. Crispy edge of the bread, soft inside. it was a little dry.. but i guess if you put mayo or butter... it won't matter. LOL. i wanted to stop by the honey stall but since i was with mom, i didn't. Cause i don't want her to start yapping and telling me i shouldn't be eating sugar... It's small, but all of your bases are covered - fruits, veg, baked goods, honey, eggs and sometimes even chicken. Oh and don't forget kettle corn, hummus, tamales and other little tchotchkes. I come every week to hit up Angelo's farms. I can assure that they are an organic farm because I have been out to their farm. Their eggs are amazing and what eggs truly should be. I went to the grand opening of the Jack Newe's Farmer's Market at Mt. SAC today. The market apparently relocated from Rowland Heights. It is every Saturday morning. The market ambiance was festive and fun. There were about 30 vendors in total. They had a large selection of produce, all grown in the state of California! The man that sold Asian vegetables had a large selection of different Asian produce that you will not find in the grocery store, and he picked it all just yesterday. There were also several farmers with the first of the season tree fruit. I purchased the most amazing cherries and apricots. There was also a man selling honey, but I didn't get a chance to try it. Several crafters also had booths to sell jewelry, tole painting, and soy candles. There were several booths that sold food. There were some delicious looking tamales (they had 7 different types). I had the most delicious quesadilla from the chicken place named Carbon Grill. She made it to order with chicken, cheese, rice, sour cream, and salsa. I also tried a sample of home made peach cobbler from another vendor, it was very tasty and actually tasted home made. I think the market is a nice little place to spend a Saturday morning. This little farmer's market is located in the parking lot of Mt. Sac, off of Grand. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't tiny either-to me it was perfect. I bought some chard, strawberries, almonds, carrots, blood oranges, and I think that's it. Everything was so reasonably priced. We also had some fresh fruit juice from one of the stands. Definitely coming back to this one. One more thing-I really like that this market is on Saturdays instead of Sundays like most others. read more

My parents love coming to this farmer's market! Maybe I'm a little spoiled and I'm used to the huge one at the Great Park in Irvine every Sunday, but this one's a little small for my taste. However, according to my parents, the groceries here are fresh and the prices for certain vegetables (kale, anyone?) are actually cheaper over here than they are in Orange County. I wanted to love this place. I've lived in Walnut for more than 20 years and support the local economy. I'm also an avid gardener. With that background, you can make your own decision on what I think about this farmer's market. The rating is based more on overall experience, especially for a farmer's market in the Walnut area, rather than the quality of the produce. Pros: - easy, free and ample parking - a better variety of vendors than I expected based on the other reviews - although I wish they had a good bakery that does pretzels, German-style, like in the Bay Area (not SF) or Scotland, two of my favorite farmer's markets. - price was actually not too bad, bought two bunches of Swiss chard for $1.50 each, green onions, a dozen fresh eggs for $5.50. - Eggs were pretty good. - I bought 3.5" French lavender (L. dentata) and culinary English lavender (Lady Lavender) for less than $4. It was comparable to vendors online or the local nursery. The plants vendor knows her wares quite well. - There's a guitar player who plays tunes near the entrance - the tots like to dance along with his music and it's cute. My mom donated because she liked some of his pieces. It was an overall nice ambiance at the market. Cons: - The produce is not too fresh. They looked fresh at the market. However, when you wash produce and cut into it, it should have a fragrance or aroma, especially the green onions. We grow them at home and they should release a scent when cut. These did not. So, if you are just wanting to experience a Saturday out, it's an ok experience. Especially if you like to buy produce at an open air market, then put it in the fridge and forget about it until it's time to throw it out. But if you are a cook or a gardener looking for the freshest produce to actually eat, this place isn't quite it. read more

This market has limited offerings. Their prices are also ridiculously high. They don't understand that they can move more merchandise by bringing down prices. There is a lot of waste, because they aren't selling that much. The market is rarely packed, so they should create brand loyalty by offering better pricing. For one, a dozen eggs for 4 dollars isn't going to make me budge. I would pay 2.5. They aren't selling a ton of eggs, so I'm guessing there is a large amount of waste. Also, the prices for honey just aren't impressive. 1 gallon for 66 bucks. That isn't even tempting. There aren't enough food snobs to buy this stuff, so I would suggest cutting their prices in half. I would buy eggs every week for 2.5 and a gallon of honey for 30 bucks flat. Other than that, there is barely any competition between the sellers, because the market is so tiny.:( read more

Love this place! It's a typical farmers market, what more can you ask for? Esp cause its super close to my house, while still being in the same city. Lots of parking available, so no need to fight people for it! I love buying bread, kale, and all sorts of veggies and fruits here. I know some people complain about the prices, but in reality is if you CAN'T pay for it DON'T COME here. Sorry I know its very blunt, but please know your place. Most of these booth that are selling these produce come straight from their own farms and we know farmers usually don't make as much as they deserve. Also these produce actually last longer in you fridge, which means you will be able to finish it and not waste it by throwing it out = not wasting your money. Food for though? I think yes! Personally I love green beans, but I know they are one veggie that has intense amount of pesticide sprayed on to them to prevent the bugs from eating them. So in this cause I would rather buy organic ones! If you compare prices its actually about the same price as the ones that are non-organic. I think people need to pick and choose what you buy at the farmers market, because I definitely agree certain items are way outta the price range I would pay! I loove this place. OMG are you kidding me. Okay, so I've had carbon grill. Delicious (but portions are waaaay too big for one person). The person that sells pupusas. Their pupusas are great, but the pomegranate Agua fresca is the best. Tamales, here, yummy. Almond guy, great flavors. The colored carrots are so fun to cook with. The basil is such a steal that I can't stop making pesto to gift. Despite all the amazing things that I mentioned, nothing beats the yogurt guy. The large variety is outstanding! Mike is the friendliest guy and will get you mmmming at how delicious his food is. I can no longer start my mornings without one of these yogurts. Personal faves would be the rose (I like mixing half the tub with strawberries and chia seeds), fig and lemon (with blueberries and walnuts), mango (with frozen mango and toasted oats). Jalapeño feta and sundries tomatoes make a great wrap with some pesto and chopped chicken. read more
