In Mount Pleasant overnight in our motorhome (stayed at KOA, which was nice; another review). We decided to try The Jalapeno Tree. It didn't feel right when we walked in. First of all, the food was better than good. I had vegetable quesadilla. It was very good and so hot I had to let it cool a little. Wife had club taco. A twist on the soft shell taco and was very good. Chips and salsa OK. Our server was nice and did a good job. As far as a Mexican restaurant goes, this place misses the spot. Again, food was good, but the atmosphere and vibe was off. We wished we had gone to the The Two Sisters. Frozen margarita machine was "still broken"; this was a disappointment (how long has it been broken?). We ordered the tall margarita on the rocks. It was palatable. Let me start off by saying I was really Vibing with this place you walk in and the bright colors instantly evoke a feeling of joy since I was traveling alone, I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was amazing. And the food oh my goodness the food. The chips and salsa were great especially the green salsa and I decided to go with the ultimate nachos which were so good and filling I was only able to eat half the steak and chicken had so much flavor. We stopped in on a Thursday night for an anniversary dinner. They weren't too busy, so we were seated immediately. Chips and salsa were brought as soon as we sat down. Our server came a few minutes later. We ordered margaritas and our food. Margs came and one of them was the wrong one so it was swapped out. Food eventually came out and was pretty good. Probably some of the worst Mexican food that I've ever had I was staying at a hotel and it was right in the parking lot. I called it in. I was supposed to go pick it up at the drive-through at a certain time. They had me sitting there for 25 minutes my food was cold and it was terrible, I would call that Mexican food. For Mount Pleasant this is diffidently a five star. It's taken 3 attempts to get in, new restaurants here is always huge. It's a small town of about 15k people and most of what we have is fast food. The two major restaurants are Chilis and Applebee's so another Chain is what we needed. Down side it's another Mexican restaurant, we have so many ifs pretty much all you eat when your around here. Upside, it's as close to good food as your gonna get that I have tried. I ordered the ribeyes covered in cheese and a ranchero sauce topped with Shrimp. It's normally served with rice but I got the steamed mixed veggies. My husband ordered the quail kabobs with charro beans. We also shared a small house salad. Overall, service was good for how busy it was. The salsa, well not as tasty as I had hoped. Tasted better at Chilis. The green sauce was excellent. Everyone around me plates looked great! Certainly will try the tacos or fajitas next. I also ordered one of the specialty margaritas and looks like they decided to just give me a regular one with the shot I ordered because looked nothing like the picture. That brme to the only real disappointing part of our dining experience. The drink served in a small Margarita glass with there straws which are way to big for glass. You can't lay the straw down in glass with out squirting it all over you each time you go for a drink. They need bigger glass our just small cocktail straws. So that was the only thing that sucked. I judge a good Mexican restaurant by the salsa. Their salsa was not the best. It was almost like it had ketchup in it. Also, the kitchen was very slow getting orders out. I felt sorry for the servers. So many times people blame them but they really don't have control with how fast the food is ready to be served. When I lived in Sherman there was a Jalapeño Tree there. It was the best Tex-mex place in town. (IMO) great food, excellent service never had any issues. But this one we waited at the bar top 20 minutes for a drink. Put in a food order and over an hour later, still no food. Bar tender asked the kitchen about our order. The told her it was going to take another hour to get it to us. Know places are short handed but two hours for two dinners was unbelievable. Needless to say we left without dinner. read more

I had been huddled in my hotel room all day. Against the Texas heat. Up to my elbows in work. Curtains drawn, CNN droning on & on in the background when I decided I needed a change! What was that yellow & red restaurant down the hill? Tex Mex? Do I remember dancing chili peppers on the outside as I drove by it? Yellow, red, sounds very bright. That's it! That's what I needed! After several months of awesome seafood, I turned my eyes inland to North Texas Beef and ordered the Beef Brisket Quesadillas. First bite of an undressed quesadilla is a barbecue beef brisket sensation wrapped in flaky, grilled flour tortilla. Very, very good. Then I added the cheese sauce in the cute chip-cup that held it and zing!!! There a little jalapeño heat in the sauce. Not overwhelming, just enough. Next I added everything on top, cheese sauce, guacamole, sour cream & lettuce. Smoky, creamy, cheesy, spicy,flaky, crunchy goodness!! Excellent! I ordered a water and my water came with a little surprise. thankfully i noticed it before i even took a sip. the ice cube in the water had a FROZEN FLY IN IT. So this was an experience. Last night I ate here and it was very good. I do have a limited diet so I ordered a grilled salmon, and avocado salad. Keeping in mind that I was paying for the more expensive full meal I was delivered a great piece of salmon but a woefully limited avocado salad, like a very weak try. I asked them to step it up and they did bring me more lettuce and avocado. So tonight I came back an ordered the same thing except I was specific about half an avocado. So, Salmon and half an avocado and I would pay for the full meal. So when they delivered my meal I got a very dry over cooked chicken breast and some what of an avocado salad. The owner took the time to respond to my review and I appreciate that very much. Looks like it was an off nite so I bumped up the stars. I will be back the next time I am in the area. Looking forward to that great salmon and maybe a chat with the owner. Thank you So what can you say, I just rolled with the deal and moved on down the road. Now if this was my establishment I would have immediately taken my plate away and delivered what I had ordered. That would have been the right thing to do. No worries life is good. read more

From the prices to the food it's all bad, better off going to Taco Bell . From the salsa they give you with the chips (tastes like tomato paste) and whatever the other sauce is . The beans were dried out, the rice pasty, the cheese in the enchilada was of low grade, the tamale taste like the tamales that come from a can (Hormel from when I was in elementary) and the size was comical (about a third of the size of a real tamale). My lady had the a pitiful plate also. We came off the road after driving about 8 hrs. and this is what we had to force down our throats!! read more
