    a sandwich on a plate

Came on a Tuesday for lunch. Was immediately greeted by one of the owners. Super cool dude. He showed me how the wine machines work, got me all set up, and then I chose a table. Their wine on tap machines allow you to order either a 1 oz 3 oz or 6 oz pour. I sampled so many but the White Pinot noir was my favorite by far. For lunch I had the club sandwich. It was really good. The bbq spread really made it stand out from other club sandwiches. It comes with a salad or fruit. I got a salad. I wasn't asked what kind of dressing I wanted, it just came with ranch. But I'm a ranch kinda girl so no biggie for me. It was a pretty slow afternoon so I was lucky and had the place mostly to myself, but I can understand what a fellow yelper meant by it taking kind of long for staff to explain to each guest, how to navigate the wine on tap machine. So if your here on a busy night, bring your patience with you. Decor is beautiful. Warm and inviting. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town

The food was amazing (try the smoked salmon toast), the wine (Lost Poet red) was perfectly chilled, and the owner was very cordial and fun.

I've even made my own from scratch with very good results. But I must say: The Walrus blew my mind. Their presentation is absolutely fantastic. The cakes are meaty, just-right-crispy and delicious and they are served perched on a bed of gorgeous greens. The greens are lightly dressed in a lovely vinaigrette and topped with perfectly roasted veggies and feta. YUM! We also ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. Delicious. AND served with plenty of yummy crostini for dipping. So many places skimp on the dippers, and it's always annoying. Not so at The Walrus. Service was prompt, friendly, attentive and efficient. If I'm ever back in Bismarck, I'll be campaigning for a return visit. Until then, I'll be dreaming about those crab cakes.

With the food being great it sure was nice to have the host and my server match the food excellence! Great job! Warning I will be back!!! Thanks Much.

I ordered the rotisserie chicken and it had no flavor and honestly, if they had taken it out 2 minutes earlier, I probably would've been left with undercooked poultry. The salad was probably the only thing that tasted good, but that's not hard to do when you have good ranch as dressing. This is one of those places you can pass on but resort to if the others are closed. They got a decent bar with great bartenders. I would come back in hopes to try something better on the MENU.

I had a very upsetting experience at Broadway Grill that I feel others -- especially those with…read morefood allergies or celiac disease -- should be aware of. This happened a while back, but it bothered me so much I still think about it, so I decided to finally write a review. I ordered a gluten-free pasta dish and clearly informed the waitress that I am gluten intolerant (celiac). When the dish was brought out, I noticed a single regular noodle sitting right in the middle of the pasta. It was visibly different from the gluten-free noodles. Thankfully, I spotted it before taking a bite. Cross-contamination is a serious issue for people with celiac disease, and even one noodle can make us very sick. I asked for the dish to be taken back and explained that I was too nervous to reorder it because I didn't want to risk getting sick. Instead, I ordered a simple green side salad and specifically requested no croutons. A few bites into the salad, I found a crouton. At that point, I was extremely upset and honestly tearful. I informed the manager and explained how serious this is for me. I asked for the salad to be removed from my bill, given that it also contained gluten after I clearly requested it not to. They refused. For anyone with celiac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, this was not just an inconvenience -- it was a health risk. The repeated lack of attention to a clearly communicated medical dietary restriction, followed by the refusal to remove the contaminated item from the bill, was deeply disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes food allergies more seriously in the future and improves its kitchen practices and staff training so no one else has to go through this. Since this experience, I have never been back and would recommend others avoid going back to this restaurant.

I'm sure this place is usually much busier, but I'm happy I lucked out. The staff were so friendly and attentive from the second you walk in, with such a warm welcome by the host. The restaurant felt cozy and still had plenty of diners despite the cold. I had the beet salad with goat cheese and pecans, and the bison braised short ribs. Both were excellent. I make a similar beet dish at home, so it was nice to have something simple, comforting, and genuinely delicious -- it felt like eating at home. The beef was incredibly tender and fell apart easily with just my fork. I also had the vanilla crème brûlée for dessert. It was pretty good, but it was cold, and I usually prefer it a little warm and smoother. Not quite the cozy dessert I was hoping for. That said, they had a great dessert selection, and I'm excited to come back and try something else.
