John Browne is one of the best Belgian Malinois Breeders on Long Island we got our first Belgian from Him 15 years ago she protected our house until she passed at 13.5. This owner has no business being around animals- period. I don't care how much experience he has, the guy has an explosive temper and I have seen him KICK DOGS during a group training class!!! If that isn't bad enough, I saw him actually PUT HIS HANDS on one of his paying customers because the guy was standing too close to another dog/owner that was having a problem! Imagine what he does when people aren't looking? I would recommend not leaving your animal there to find out. A few days ago I was looking for dog boarding on Yelp and found a review for this place in which a guy boarded his dog there and found it with a cut on its face when he picked it up. If I could give this guy a ZERO I would. He was a nightmare the first day I met him. He asked if my 6 month old Rottie would be getting spayed. When I said yes, he responded by YELLING AT me that "Really? Spay? Would you give your 6 year old a HYSTERECTOMY? THAT'S WHAT YOUR DOING YOU'RE DISGUSTING." ...need I say more? Also, as public knowledge proves, many dogs have DIED in his presence. DIED. HIT BY CARS ESCAPING FROM HIS FACILITY. BEWARE OF JOHN AND THE K9 CENTER! His negative training tactics will only make your dog afraid of you and extremely aggressive. So glad we found this out before moving further with him! I met John a few years prior to purchasing a female Malinois from him in '94. All along the 13 1/2 years of my Bella's life I would on again off again frequent his establishment for advice, refresher training, products and fresh dog food. I have never met a man more dedicated to the proper, healthy breeding and higher level obedience and agility training of the K-9 species in my life. For any of you that have left negative reviews you clearly have fallen victim of a miscommunication, misunderstanding or, more likely, have no business owning a dog in the first place. My suggestion is go back to the shelter and get yourself a "Free Dog" so you can feel like a hero and get your training at pet-co where you also belong. read more

If I could give The K-9 Center 10 stars I would. John Browne was recommended by my vet and a good friend who trained his dog with John. I had my initial consultation with John 5 yrs ago for my dog Luca. I had a hard time controlling him, he was a big 95lb Doberman Pincher. Luca and I trained both private and than group lessons. Very pleased with the results. I now have 2 other Dobermans, an 8 month old and a 13 month old that are currently in training. John Browne is totally dedicated to his work and he teaches in a way that makes it easy for the dog and the owner to learn. John and the staff at The K9 Center have been a constant source of support and guidance. Anytime I have a question about any of my dogs they are just a phone call away. I also board my dogs at The K9 Center. Boarding and training at the same facility is very convenient. I go away often and it is comforting to know that the staff cares about my pets as much as I do. The obedience training is excellent. We started our dog there when he was 7 months old; about a year and a half ago. We still go back and attend a group lesson just for fun every once in awhile. They have lifetime training so you can attend as many lessons as you like which is especially helpful as your dog is growing up. John Browne the trainer is very professional and knowledgeable; he is great with dogs and with people. You start out with private lessons. John will show you how to work with your dog; after that you move on to group lessons and off leash training. ** UPDATE 11/7/14 - As stated in my review 4 years ago, I brought my 70lb excitable, crazy mixed breed to John at the K-9 center when he was a puppy. It's about 6 years later and the skills that both my dog and I learned are still there. I can take my dog for off leash walks, let him out in my unfenced yard without worry, he always comes right back when I call him and when I do walk him on a leash he doesn't pull or cross in front of me. K9 has been a life saver for my dog and my family. Just when we thought we couldn't take our pup anymore a friend referred Amanda from K9 to train our pup. She has not only trained our pup but trained us to be better dog owners. She taught all of our family the proper way to handle and train our Aussiedoodle. I've also used them for boarding when we've gone away. My dog was a very happy and tired dog when we picked her up.;) For the holiday they took pictures of our pups and our family. They did a great job with that as well. I can't say enough great things about K9. I highly recommend them to anyone who has a dog. Trust me you won't be disappointed. read more

I went to the K9 Center in Hauppauge with my 6 month old out of control Rottweiler puppy. By the second class the dog was off leash and finally listening when I called her name and was staying by my side.Looking forward to our next lesson with Amanda and her helper Lindsay. PLEASE STOP AND READ THIS! We took our two year old Belgian Malinois to the K-9 Center in Ronkonkoma to continue training on obedience and protection work. This was one of the biggest mistakes we ever made. The owner/trainer, John, insisted that we board our dog at his facility as it would be beneficial for his training. We received a devastating phone call two days later from John that our dog was able to escape his facility and was killed by a moving vehicle. Words cannot describe how horrific our experience was with this place. The amount of negligence that occurred at this facility while our dog was under their care is disgusting. They left our dog outside in freezing temperatures and alone for a long period of time. The owner admitted to us that our dog was under deep distress for two days and he neglected to contact us about the situation. He stated that our dog was biting into concrete while trying to escape the kennel. We specifically requested a phone call if our dog was in any type of abnormal distress or doing anything to damage his teeth. We think biting into concrete to escape a kennel is out of the ordinary and requires a phone call to the owners. SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF GRIEF AND DO NOT TAKE ANY OF YOUR DOGS HERE. YOUR LOVED ONES DESERVE A LOT BETTER OF CARE THAN THIS FACILITY CAN PROVIDE. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO GET SHUT DOWN BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. Knowing John for over 25 years and buying three dogs from him. I get the bad reviews however you have to understand this world. This is a serious dog guy, that runs his business like an ex marine. Owning some really hard dogs, I worked my butt off to train my dogs with John. Two dogs I have in fact had to leave at the center, but I have had no fear in trusting John. This is not a foo-foo guy with a foo-foo approach to dog training. I find it sad that people who have never worked with this place are able to give reviews. read more

My husband and I are first time Bull Terrier parents. Our Bull Terrier was particularly high strung and extra crazy at home. We knew that with this breed we were going to need to start training him early on and get a control over his temperament or else he was going to rule us! We were recommended to The K-9 Center by my husbands brother and it was the best decision we have made regarding our puppy. When our puppy was 10 weeks old we started coming to Amanda at The K-9 Center to learn some basic obedience training. Amanda truly shows enthusiasm when our puppy is doing well and improving weekly. She is a genuinely kind individual, who loves dogs, and who is very well trained in what she does. John is also a very knowledgeable individual with years of experience in dog training, once you talk to him you will see how much he really knows. I highly recommend this place for any kind of dogs, we have seen Dobermans, Belgian Malinois, Labs, and Bull Dogs- all very well mannered! My husband and I enjoyed class just as much as our Bull Terrier. Our puppy Baci, is now 5 months old and has completed 8 weeks of puppy training classes. He has shown such a difference in obedience. He is so much better at home and listens to all of our commands. He knows Sit, Down, Place, Heel, and is learning to stay in place! Thanks to Amanda we had quite the unruly puppy turn into a well mannered, well socialized pup, overall awesome pup. We thought it was impossible, yet it was done! With that being said, we will happily be continuing with The K-9 Center for adult / lifetime training. So happy that there is a place like this on Long Island! read more

I could not be any more disappointed with my experience at the K-9 center. As a working college student and new dog owner, a scheduling conflict came about and I sought out a facility to watch my dog for about 6 hours. This was the 5th facility I called that came across as both trustworthy and assuring. I was told that someone would personally come in early and stay late in order to care for my dog and initially I was relieved. When the time came to drop off my new puppy for the day, the woman I had spoken to had not shown up yet. This would have been understandable, however, I waited for 40 minutes in the parking lot where several employees passed by me and showed little to no regard for my predicament. It wasn't until I went back inside to look for an answer regarding my situation with the woman that I was even sort of helped. Nobody seemed to have any clue as to when she would be there. They claimed to have called her and she told them that she would show up around 11; this was most definitely a lie. I was told to leave my dog there, and though I was quite uncomfortable with this, I had no choice because I had a 10am class that I was already very tardy for. Being this uncertain and uncomfortable I called twice to ask if the woman I had spoken to had come in and if I could speak with her but she still had not arrived and the time was 12:15. I immediately left school and picked him up to discover that he had been crammed into a crate the entire time! This is exactly what I did not want to happen. If I wanted to crate my dog for 6 hours I could have left him in the safety of my own home. Needless to say I will never be back or recommend any dog owners to this place of neglect. read more

I used to be a long time regular here with my PUG and was very happy. Then just recently I brought my 14 pound 1 1/2 yr old puppy mix breed to stay here for the weekend. When I got him, his eye brow was cut and he was bleeding. The workers told me that he was "worst then a PITBULL" and that he was attacking them. Now, this place says they train German Sheppards which are probably close to 9X heavier and stronger then my 14 pound dog and they couldn't control him. I WAS VERY IRATE with this and the fact that my dog was hurt and they couldn't even clean him up before presenting him to me. I paid a lot of money for my dog to be kept safe and NOW I FEEL LIKE I GOT SCREWED!!!!!. I will NEVER come here again. I NEVER EVEN GOT A SORRY OR A REFUND for hurting your dog. This place is HORRIBLE. read more

This place is as good as it gets when it comes to dog training. I have only just started at this place and already have learned more than 4 months of training with my previous trainer. The training is not by any means cheap. However, you get what you pay for. John Browne is extremely friendly and explains why the dog behaves certain ways. He is basically a master trainer/ master animal behaviorist. To me this is wonderful because I am not only learning how to take control of the dog but I am learning why the dog reacts the way he does and why I am supposed to take certain actions. The staff is also superb. The owner and a worker there , I think Kevin is his name, took about 3-4 hours explaining the dog's diet and other important info before I even decided to use the k-9 center as my training place. This place also makes their own training equipment. They have an outdoor training area as well as an indoor tent. You can not go wrong here. Stop wasting your money at other places and go to k-9 center inc, at once. read more

John Browne is an amazing trainer. He has trained my last 3 dogs and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend him. John is NOT. Abusive to ANY of the dogs there. He know exactly how to help a little tiny scared dog become more confident and how to put an extremely aggressive 200 pound dog in its place. He has saved numerous dog from having to be given up. After losing one of our dogs, we decided to get a puppy. We purchased an 8 week old male English Bull Terrier. When we brought him home, he immediately started to fight with our other dogs. Being as he was a puppy, we thought he would out grow it but after 4 months, nothing was helping. My neighbor suggested the K-9 Center. We took him for an evaluation and was told that training would help his aggressive behavior. I mentioned to the owner that I was considering putting him down and he told me to consider training before taking such drastic measures. After private and group lessons, he seemed to be getting better. We still thought that at some point we were probably still going to have to do something drastic with him . We knew we couldn't re-home him he was too unpredictable. After a couple months we started to see improvement and continued with the training. Now, we have a dog we are able to take out in public and even camping. He is well adjusted and I have the K-9 Center to thank. So thank you John and staff for all that you have done. read more
