We've used other boarding facilities out of state, but this was the first time leaving our girls in NY. We needed somewhere we could have peace of mind, and they exceeded our expectations! The Farmingdale location is gorgeous. It's spacious, beautifully laid out, and so clean that you can't detect a dog smell. In order to make a reservation though, they did have to schedule a two-hour temperament evaluation prior to their stay. Once that was completed, we were able to continue on with finalizing our reservation. They offered two suite options, the Comfort and Imperial. Jacquelyn was a pleasure to work with. She was kindhearted, friendly, and really supportive in organizing their stay. She was the primary staff member who assisted us with check-ups, updates, occasional pictures, and check-out. Initially, our dogs may have been reserved, but afterwards, they were definitely excited to be there. My husband & I could tell they had a great time. Not only were they happy but the exit bath pampered them even further. Yeah, they were spoiled and will continue to be spoiled! We plan on bringing them here for our future vacation needs. Thank you so much for taking care of our girls!

We've done daycare, boarding (in the executive suite) and used their spa services. My doodle Rosie cries as we drive down lake ave and pulls to go back into daycare when I pick her up. The pictures pf her on instagram smiling makes me totally at ease whether it's a day visit or we are across the country. My kids loveeee the post daily online. The staff loves every dog as their own and it shows. I would chose Barkgata over and over again and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Horrible experience…read more For some reason my wife still wanted to use her after last year she cancelled on us due to not having a car and not being sure if her dad could give her a ride to our home in Ronkonkoma. I prefers a streaming conversation on the phone when doing a transaction for the first time with someone. She refused to communicate on the phone while trying to plan trip. Would send generic emails directing me to website as though I was unemployed and had nothing better to do then browse all the pages of her website for information. Then we needed to cancel with 24 hours notice. Although she charged me for each visit separately during the whole week she kept 50 percent for all 20+ visits. Also used generic language referring to "our policy" and "we" to sound powerless to help us regarding her own policies when this is a local small business ran by one person, refusing to speak on the phone and referring me back to her website as she did prior to the cancellation.

Our original…read moreperspective boarder cancelled a week before our vacation, so we were lucky Hounds Town had room for our pet. We liked how they post pictures and short videos of the dogs each day on their private Facebook page. That helped ease our minds about the well-being of our pet. The daily pricing, $65 per night, is quite reasonable. We felt that after boarding for 8 days, the $30 exit bath should have been complimentary, considering she came out with dirt around her eyes and gray dust and a foreign clipped hair on her still damp underside. Yuck, but easy to rectify. Additionally, when we picked her up, we didn't receive any feedback as to how she did during her stay. Then again, we did not ask because we were just anxious to be reunited with our dog. BUT....when the next family came in to retrieve their little pup, the person checking us out raved how THAT dog was one of her favorites and she gave him extra attention during feeding time. HELLO??? We are standing right there!!! What about our puppy? Was she left to feed on her own? Did she even eat all her food at meal times? She definitely lost weight during her stay. Other than those few hiccups, we were happy with our dog's stay at Hounds Town of Smithtown.

I asked every question under the sun at my dog's evaluation, and every answer was the one I was looking for. Additionally, my dog is not an 'easy' dog, he can be standoffish with strangers, but every staff member knew how to approach him without my having to comment, and he settled in really well. I appreciate especially their honesty when I asked if Arlo played with any other dogs - instead of lying to me and saying "of course!" without thinking, they explained to me that he needs to get used to a new environment and that "the play will come." That answer was stellar, and I feel comfortable knowing that staff will give me uncomfortable truths when they are needed rather than sugar coating their answers for a sale. I know my dog well, and their description of his behavior today was on point, I know for a fact that staff was watching him carefully and that makes me happy. I am glad to have a place to bring him now that I no longer work in the industry, it's a huge weight off of my shoulders. As to the reviews stating that the place smells - I have twice walked in during what seemed like rush hour and smelled nothing other than typical 'dog' smell, so I'm not sure what all that is about.
