We had an event near Salem so we thought we'd stop by. It's so quaint, gorgeous and proved to be lovely get away for the afternoon. It's not overly large as you can most likely walk and enjoy the trails, gardens and sights in about 30 minutes. There is a house tour but only on limited days/times and the day we visited was not one of those days. Beautiful flowers, tucked away benches and meandering trails all made for a wonderful walk. I highly recommend and it's free to walk around!

They specialize in living history. They also hosted the NW Civil War Reenactment over the 4th of July weekend which is what brought us to visit the only pictures we took). I was amazed at what a great place this is and how much there is to see. Free parking is very easy. There was a lot of walking but they also have small trolleys that take people place to place and bleachers for watching demonstrations. Plenty of options for food, clean bathrooms. Admission varies depending on the events being held(and there is a variety!) Very easy access off I-5. I plan to visit again.

Outside exhibits were ostensibly fun, but we happened to come on a VERY hour day, and most of the outside metal play structures were too hot to play on. I feel like the upper limit of she for kids who would enjoy this place is probably 10 or 11. There are only two reasons why this is not a 5-star experience. Size of Bracelet Soda cups- You can buy a special fair bracelet, which includes unlimited rides, 3 games, and a medium drink. I had this happen last year: You see the 3 drink sizes on the ordering counter, but what they give you is NOT the medium drink. I don't think it's even 8 ounces. Alien UFO ride- This ride spins so fast while closed off, it feels like you are glued to the walls. I got stuck behind where it specifically says "Do not go beyond this point" because you could get hurt if you did. I couldn't move at all, and I was afraid that I would get hurt. Fair has been great and can't wait to go back next year!
