Our group attended a less than 1 hour tour $30 per person on a Friday afternoon and were quickly shown a ballroom, hotel room, terrace, rooftop space, and outdoor fountain, entrance, and grounds. It was frenetic and rushed. It also felt like an extended sales pitch with the price list explained for each space we were shown and also slightly off-putting to hear $, $, $ during the tour. We did hear some interesting facts, but it was a rapid fire oratory that was sometimes difficult to comprehend due to delivery speed. (Imagine drinking water from a fire hose.) We were also a bit perplexed at the info provided about the popularity of the place for events, the cost of the building materials, and then viewing the property condition which was in a sad state. We started in the ballroom, which had large ceiling water stains and poorly patched areas and then proceeded to the main hall 1st and 2nd floors and viewed fleur de lis ceiling decals peeling from the surface as well as gaping holes. Finally, we were shown a hotel room that had a distinctive musty odor and then the top floor rooftop entertainment space with peeling and bulging stucco. The outside areas were equally unimpressive with poorly maintained landscaping with extensive sod replacement and burnt boxwoods, potholed asphalt, and exterior trim with peeling paint. We were told that the 3 chandeliers in the 2nd floor were $60,000 EACH, but that isn't what we noticed. (Including photos with my review demonstrating the peeling decorative decals and multiple holes in the surrounding ceiling.) We opted to leave following the tour after considering the on site restaurant's menu based on prices and offerings. We did peruse the gift shop and it had some interesting items. We had also considered returning in the future to attend a murder mystery dinner, but have decided this is a one-and-done experience. If you drive through Lexington Kentucky it's likely you will eventually drive past The Castle. If you're in Central Kentucky for any length of time you will hear about it sooner or later. My wife and I have driven past it for many years and always remark, "we ought to check that out one day." So today we did. It's very nice and is a full service hotel and features a dining room and bar on the ground floor. We ate at the restaurant today. It is very elegant but casual at the same time. The menu we saw was a brunch menu with breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. We had the breakfast with 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, biscuit and gravy or grits and toast all for $20. The server was a young man named Cooper and he was beyond excellent. The Castle hosts many special events, there's an outside rooftop pavilion area and permanent tent-style structures on the grounds as well. There's a nice pool for hotel guests as well. All in all a fun one of a kind stay or meal break is a must next time you're in the area. read more

We came to The Castle for the second half of our Honeymoon week and it did not disappoint! The Bartender, Jordan, was awesome and would happily describe any bourbon, cocktail or give you recommendations on where to eat or where to go to see live music. Each day the room was meticulously cleaned and re-stocked. We had the most a phenomenal breakfast brought to our room and ate out on the second floor patio. Our last night there, we ate at the restaurant and had the most delicious beef tartar, crab ravioli and Lamb chops. We also checked out the spar for a couples massage and it was probably the best massage I have ever had. Whenever we had a question or request, the staff happily tried to accommodate us. On the Sip & Stroll tour, our guide even suggested to take our photo then showed us where to stand to get the best picture. 10/10 Highly recommend. read more

Went to the Kentucky Castle, Holiday market. It cost $35 per person which was not worth the money. Once you get in there, they have vendors where you can shop and alcohol you can purchase. The marketing advice that there would be a hot chocolate bar, drinks and food. However, it was definitely not $35 worth. They had bourbon mac & cheese and pork sliders. They also had churros and cream puffs. I thought it was odd that they didn't have non-pork or non-dairy options. They also kept running out of the food. The tables were dirty and the hot chocolate bar look like it had been picked over. I would not go back to the holiday market or other paid events. The vendors had some decent stuff to purchase such as jewelry, baked goods, clothing, Christmas items, and more. This probably should've been a free event. read more

This place is beautiful. The property is gorgeous as well as the hotel itself. We spent a weekend here as a girl's trip. The pool was a highlight and walks around the property as well. We were only able to have breakfast on the property one morning because we didn't realize that the restaurant was extremely popular. While we did not mind that this was the case at dinner, it was a bit odd to not have some type of priority for guests in the morning. On our last morning they were able to squeeze us in before 9am, and by the time we left to check out all of the tables in the room (4-5) were still empty, which I understand they didn't want to seat us and then have reservations come in but it appeared that they had more than enough time to accommodate us. They also did not have an exercise room, I find this to be a big con when the price of a room for the night is so high. They mentioned goat yoga when I went down in the morning to ask, but it had already started and this was never mentioned at check in or I think a few of us would have loved to join in. I will also add that the noise in the morning can be quite loud due to high ceilings and lots of stone. I am an early riser, but a couple girls were annoyed that it was hard to sleep in past a certain time. It is also very bright in the room in the morning, but the most puzzling part, are the blind pulls are so short compared to the very tall windows we were almost unable to close them and then decided to not open them again due to the inconvenience. I will also mention that the mirror in the bathroom was not short person friendly (under 5'4") and the vanity was such a pain since that felt oversized as well. Overall, a wonderful stay, but for the price I usually expect more attention to detail and better guest experience. read more

We had reservations for brunch in the bar area before a rainy day at Keeneland. We started off with their Bloody Mary and the Fried Grits. The Bloody is always good. The grits and the pepper jelly were something new to us and they were delicious. I had the Hogtown Biscuit which is huge. A monster biscuit covered with gravy, country ham, fried chicken, and sunny side egg, with a side of home fries. My wife had the Open-Faced Omelet, minus the spinach salad. From the minute, you get out of your car, you can see that there is a lot of maintenance issues on the property that are not being addressed. When you enter inside into the restaurant area parts of it look cool and interesting but then you also see the chairs where every single chair has stains on it. They're all cloth, but they look like they've never been cleaned. The hostess was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Our waitress was very good Alexa, so at least that was the best part of the experience. The food was just mediocre best. My wife's beef dish was so salted that she couldn't eat it. I have driven by the castle hundreds of times, and I finally got around to trying the menu for dinner. Here are my thoughts: Underwhelming ~ the Deviled Eggs, Shrimp Fritters, TKC Fried Chicken, and Banana Pudding. With all of these, just not a lot of flavor. And the prices here are too high to not be blown away. Outstanding ~ the grounds and interior are beautiful, the service is incredible, the Kentucky Mule was awesome, the bourbon pecan butter that comes with Toby's Fresh Bread Service was next level, and the Wagyu Ribeye was maybe the best steak I've ever had. It melts in your mouth. So, you've got hit or miss here. If you make the right choices, you're going to be amazed. The food and the ambiance will get you there. But if you pick a miss, you're going to be sorely disappointed. I'd love to give it five stars. It earns it in certain areas. Like 10 minutes before we could order drinks then another 15 before our drinks came out (I got the apple cranberry mule which is a mocktail and my boyfriend got coffee). Ordering food was another 15 minutes then the food took about 25 minutes. The floor under our table was filthy, but the hostess did come and sweep it up after we were sat. I ordered the fried chicken biscuit and it was actually good. A tad bit salty because of the ham and I was surprised the arugula side was not dressed. Our server and the other one in the room with us were like Wednesday Addams and her best friend Enid! We heard the other server in the room talking to tables about things to see in the area and congratulating them on their special occasion followed by information they would receive a surprise at the end of their meal. We didn't hear any of this from our server and were celebrating a special occasion ourselves to which they had put a nice card on our table beforehand! The ambience was nice for breakfast, but the food was not nearly the gourmet experience we hoped for. We got the standard breakfast and found the sausage to be overcooked and unable to even be cut with the knife on the table and the bacon undercooked to the point it was flimsy. Toast was brought out barely toasted and with nothing on it. Butter and jam had to be specially requested. Definitely not the experience we had hoped for at such a fancy restaurant. read more

Hotel was very clean, and beautiful. Everything in the hotel echoes so when the morning staff has their meetings in the morning or social hour. They wake you up every morning at 6:30-7 AM laughing and talking. After speaking with employees and Manager, they all have heard on how much the hotel echoes into every room, but they have not been trained to use softer voices, or have had the courtesy to have their conversations inside the kitchen or somewhere else. Going on vacation without our kids means we would like to sleep at least until 8 AM. Other than that food was good. My Garden Club booked a tour with lunch which cost $60 per person. The "tour" was mostly "Hurry up - Stay together", "There's the garden - go look at it later if you want to".
